Jordynâs eyes widened in shock.
âWho are you?! What nonsense are you talking about?â she cried out.

A light laugh came through on the other end of the line. âWhether itâs nonsense or not, you know in your heart. If I donât see you in an hour, be prepared to face the consequences.â
The call ended with a click, snapping Jordyn out of her daze. Her mind raced as she paced anxiously in the living room.
She had already dealt with Holden Vance, so there shouldnât be anyone else who knew about this. How could the caller possibly know?
If Clark discovered that the child wasnât his he would certainly not let her off easily.
The more she thought about it, the more anxious she became.
There was no time to dwell on it. Palate Royale was at least a halfâhour drive away. Regardless of whether the caller had real evidence, she had no choice but to go there.
Taking a deep breath to steady herself, Jordyn grabbed her car keys and headed out.
Forty minutes later, Jordyn pulled up to the entrance of Palate Royale. As soon as she approached the door, a server came over.
âMs. Cheatham, let me show you in,â the server said with a polite smile.
In a wellâtailored suit, the server kept his hands neatly clasped in front of him.
Palate Royale was a highâend restaurant in Saintornia.
Clark had brought Jordyn there once for a business meeting. Back then, when they were just superior and subordinate, she had been stunned by the price of a single appetizerâit was equivalent to several months of her salary.
Having just graduated and never been to a highâend restaurant before, she had been completely unfamiliar with dining etiquette. The meal had been a disaster for her.
She had felt the disdainful glances from the companyâs client and wished she could sink through the floor. Some had even suggested to Clark, in front of her, that he should get a more competent secretary. She had never been so embarrassed and had been certain Clark would fire her the next day.
When the business deal fell through, Jordyn had felt it had been entirely her fault and kept apologizing to Clark on their way back, pleading with him not to fire her.
Seeing her on the verge of tears, Clark had gently assured her she wouldnât be fired and that the failed deal hadnât been her fault. He had urged her not to blame herself.
Jordyn had never been treated so kindly before, and at that moment, she found herself falling in love with Clark.
If it werenât for her being with Clark for a year and still not getting pregnant, she wouldnât haveâ¦

Her thoughts darkened as she pondered this.
The person who had invited her must have been someone of considerable status. She couldnât understand why they hadnât simply informed Clark about this matter directly.
After passing through a long corridor and a screen, Jordyn finally reached Room 1.
âMs. Cheatham, weâve arrived,â the server announced.
Jordyn nodded and pushed the door open to enter.
The roomâs decor was simple, yet each piece of furniture was invaluable. The dining table and chairs, crafted from highâquality wood, were worth hundreds of thousands.
Jordynâs gaze fell on the person seated in the center of the room, and her eyes widened in disbelief. âItâs you!â
Rebecca smiled. âYou seem quite surprised to see me, Ms. Cheatham.â
Jordyn sneered. âRebecca, if I remember correctly, I have nothing to do with you. Why have you called me here?â
Noting Jordynâs anger, Rebecca raised an eyebrow. âYouâre already here, so why donât you have a seat? But I advise you to keep your temper in check. Otherwise, youâll be the one who suffers if I become upset.â
Jordyn gritted her teeth, considered her options, and finally took a seat.
