Chapter 319
Gabriel smiled. âMr. Sumner, what brings you here un pectedly?â
Iâm here to check on your upcoming work plans,â Damon replied
Gabriel was momentarily taken aback. âMr. Sumner, you donât need to come in person for something so minor next time. Just have Mr. Hogg give me a call, and Iâll report to your office.â
Spencer looked down, pretending not to hear and wondering whether Gabriel was genuinely that oblivious.
Damon had come personally to see Nyla, How could he be concerned about a researcherâs work progress otherwise?
Damonâs expression darkened. âSo, you plan to report here?â
âOf course not. Our office is over here. Let me take you there,â Gabriel said, leading Damon toward his office.
As Damon passed by Nyla, the air seemed to freeze with his icy demeanor.
Nyla pursed her lips and turned her gaze away.
Damonâs footsteps halted. He turned coldly toward her. âDo you not want to see me, Ms. Jayston?â
Not wanting to stir up trouble, Nyla shook her head. âNo.â
âThen why donât you greet me?â Damon demanded.
Spencer, trailing behind Damon, mused that Damon had clearly come to see Nyla but was now complicating matters for her. He even wondered whether Damonâs love had turned into hatred after their breakup.
Nyla took a deep breath, turned to Damon, and said slowly, âHello, Mr. Sumner. Is this acceptable?â
âDo you think Iâm looking for trouble?â Damonâs gaze was intense as if he would continue to make things difficult until he received a satisfactory answer.
Feeling a surge of frustration, Nyla forced a smile and replied, âYouâre the CEO,

so naturally, whatever you say goes.â
Damon narrowed his eyes, and his aura became more menacing.
Gabriel quickly stepped in, pulling Nyla behind him. âMr. Sumner, she didnât mean it that way. Sheâs just having a rough time with the experiments this morning, so her attitude might not be the best. Iâm sure you understand.â
There seemed to be frost in Damonâs eyes when he saw Gabriel grab Nylaâs hand.
Although others didnât notice, Spencer knew that Damon was genuinely angry.
âDoes she need you to speak for her?â Damon questioned.
Gabrielâs smile faltered slightly.
Just as he was about to respond, Nyla spoke up. âGabriel, you donât need to defend me. I meant exactly what Mr. Sumner thinks I meant.â
âNyla! Stop it!â Gabriel shot her a look, signaling her to stop provoking Damon.
Nyla, however, ignored him and pushed him aside. She looked at Damon and said coldly, âI donât know what I did to upset you enough to make you come all the way from the top floor to hassle me, Mr. Sumner. But youâre right about one thingâI donât want to see you.â
As soon as she finished speaking, the temperature around them seemed to drop sharply.
Damonâs gaze remained fixed on Nyla, his presence oppressive.
Nyla met his gaze without flinching, and the air seemed to grow heavy.
Gabriel decided not to intervene. This was exactly the scenario he had hoped for, after all.
Spencer thought that the next person who had to deliver documents to the top floor this afternoon was in for a rough time.
After a moment of hesitation, Spencer spoke up to break the silence. âMr. Sumner, werenât you here to discuss Mr. Hackettâs upcoming project? Thereâs a meeting at 1:30 p.m. If we delay any longer, we might miss it.â
