âIt seems Iâve overestimated your kindness. After all, your son cheated first, yet you splash water on your daughterâinâlaw. Such a bizarre motherâinâlaw is indeed rare.â
With each word Damon uttered, Cindyâs expression darkened further. In the end, it turned icy.
âDamon, this is a family matter. As an outsider, itâs best you not interfere.â
Damon arched an eyebrow. âI wasnât planning to interfere, but donât you think itâs too much to bully a young girl like this?â
Cindy only dared to be so audacious because she knew the Jaystons were bankrupt. Even if she treated Nyla harshly, they couldnât do much to her.
Cindy gritted her teeth in anger. âToo much? Just because Clark has a woman on the side, she throws a fit, moves out, and even talks about divorce. Whoâs really being too much?â
âIsnât Clark at fault for the affair in the first place? Itâs the Sumners who wronged Nyla, not the other way around. If you canât see this, I donât think Clark should continue working at the Sumner Group.â
Cindy paled, trembling uncontrollably. âDamon, whose side are you on?â
âIâm on neither side. Iâm just advising you to be a kinder person if you want your son to inherit the Sumner Group.â
Under Damonâs icy gaze, Cindy took a deep breath, picked up her bag, and left.
âUncle Damon, thank you⦠for todayâ¦â
Damon turned to look at Nyla. He briefly glanced at her wet clothes stuck to her chest, then casually averted his gaze.
âYou donât call me Uncle Damon for nothing. Itâs the least I should do. Let me take you home. Youâre in no condition to catch a cab right now.â
With that, he turned and headed toward the door,
Nyla followed his gaze and glanced down. Her soaked white shirt had become nearly transparent, revealing a tantalizing hint of cleavage. She bit her lip and subconsciously covered herself, feeling her cheeks flush.
In the car, Nyla sat pressed against the door, trying to minimize her presence.
Thankfully, Damon remained engrossed in his documents, not sparing even a glance her way, which put her at ease.
When the car stopped at the entrance of The Fleur, Nyla prepared to get out when Damon suddenly spoke. âIf you want to divorce Clark, I can introduce you to divorce lawyers.â
Although Clark was Damonâs nephew, cheating was something Damon found unforgivable. Moreover, the way Cindy had publicly treated Nyla today showed she had little regard for her daughterâinâlaw.
Nyla paused, her fingertips gripping the handle turning white.
The inside of the car fell quiet for several seconds before Nyla spoke softly. âThank you, Uncle Damon.

As Nyla got out of the car and watched it disappear from view, she turned to head into her building.
Unexpectedly, she saw Clark standing at the entrance, glaring at her with a dark expression.
Nylaâs gaze hardened as she pretended not to see him and walked past.
As she passed by Clark, he grabbed her wrist. âNyla, was it Uncle Damon who just dropped you off?â
His questioning tone made Nyla uncomfortable. She shook off his hand coldly. âItâs none of your business.
Clark blocked her path, about to speak, when he noticed her partially damp shirt. His expression darkened further. âWhat happened to your shirt?â
Once Clark thought of Nyla being in the same car as Damon in her current state, his eyes flashed with unsettling hostility. She belonged to him alone, and he would never allow another man to lay a finger on
her.
NyÅa scoffed. âYou should ask your mother about that.
