âEven if heâs my older brother, it doesnât change the fact that he kidnapped Nyla,â Damon replied firmly.
Cindyâs eyes flashed with anger due to Damonâs unwavering defense of Nyla. âDamon, youâre defending Nyla because you like her. Sheâs just a womanâhow can she be more important than your own brother?!â
âWhat?!â Marie turned sharply to look at Cindy, her face a mask of disbelief. âWhat nonsense are you spouting?! Have you lost your mind?!â
How could Damon possibly like Nyla? She was his nephewâs wife!
Richardâs expression grew grim, his gaze toward Cindy sharp.
Cindy, now resolute, bit her lip and continued. âMom, I overheard Damon confess his feelings for Nyla when I visited her in the hospital once. I didnât tell you before because I was worried you couldnât handle it. But seeing Damon now ignoring his brotherâs wellâbeing for the sake of an outsider, I couldnât keep it to myself anymore!â
Marie took a step back, collapsing onto the sofa, her expression dazed.
Damon liked Nyla? How could he like Nyla?
She recalled Clarkâs comment about Damonâs feelings for a married woman. She hadnât understood it at the time, but now it made sense!
Steadying herself, she looked at Damon with a mix of disappointment and anger. âDo you really like Nyla?â
His gaze was steady as he replied seriously, âYes, I do,
Marie slapped Damon across the face, her eyes red with rage, nearly collapsing from the effort.
The alarmed housekeeper, Catherine Talbot, quickly stepped forward to support her wobbling figure.
âMadam, your health is important. The doctor said you shouldnât get angry,â Catherine reminded her gently.
Marie shoved her away. âHow can I not be angry?!â
She turned to Damon, her body trembling with fury. âGet down on your knees! I introduced you to so many suitable women, but you didnât show any interest!
âIf you liked a woman from a good family, even if she wasnât a perfect match, I might have accepted it. But youâre in love with your nephewâs wife. Are you trying to drive your father and me to our graves?!â
Damon knelt with a straight back, his expression stoic and unchanging.
His silence only fueled Marieâs anger. She pounded her cane on the tile floor repeatedly.
âFrom now on, youâre not to see that woman again! Even if she werenât married to Clark, Iâd never approve of you being with her. Not unless Iâm dead!â Marie demanded.
Damon looked up, his voice steady. âMom, I wonât stop pursuing her.â
Marie raised her cane and struck him on the back, shouting, âSay it again!â

âI said, I wonât stop pursuing her!â Damon repeated.
The cane came down again, and Damon echoed his declaration.
After numerous repetitions, Marieâs face grew increasingly pale. Overwhelmed by her emotions, she suddenly blacked out and fell backward.
âMom!â Cindy screamed, rushing to catch Marie, her eyes filled with worry. âMom fainted! Call the family doctor!â
The living room erupted into chaos as the service staff and Cindy hurried to help Marie into a room and called the family doctor.
Soon, the only ones left in the living room were Damon, still kneeling, and Richard, who remained silent with a grim expression.
