Chapter 148
Nyla met Clarkâs cold gaze. With a scoff, she snatched the flowers and supplements from his hands, tossing them into the trash can.
Spencerâs eyes widened with shock, quickly shifting to anger. âMs. Jayston, how could you do that? Mr. Damon came to see you, and you-â
Before he could finish, Damon had already turned and left, his presence so chilling that it sent shivers down oneâs spine.
Spencer, struggling to control his frustration, hurried to catch up with Damon.
âMr. Sumner, are we just going to leave like this?â Spencer asked.
The situation felt unbearably humiliating. After all, Damon had helped Nyla numerous times before, but she had repaid his kindness with disdain.
âWhat else? Storm into the room and demand an explanation?â Damon
retorted.
He wasnât the type to grovel. Plenty of women wanted to be with him- he didnât need her specifically.
Sensing the frostiness in Damonâs gaze, Spencer felt a chill rise from his feet and dared not speak further. Damon was clearly in a foul mood, and it was best to remain silent.
Back in the hospital room, Nyla glared at Clark. âAre you satisfied now?â
Clark smiled and spoke slowly. âNyla, Iâm doing this for your own good. This will prevent any further advances from my uncle. Otherwise, youâll be the one who gets hurt in the end.â
Nylaâs expression turned mocking. âFor my ow: good, or just to control

me? You know the answer.â
âNyla, do you have to misunderstand me like this?â Clark asked.
âI donât want to see you. Get out!â Nyla snapped.
Clarkâs gaze darkened as he grabbed her wrist and pulled her closer. â Nyla, I donât like this attitude of yours.â
She shook him off, her eyes filled with disgust. âIf you prefer someone gentle, go find Jordyn. I never asked you to be here.â
Clarkâs expression grew colder. Just as he was about to speak, the door opened.
A nurse entered with an IV drip and said, âMs. Jayston, itâs time for your
IV.â
Suppressing his anger, Clark softened his tone. âNyla, take care of yourself. Iâll come pick you up tonight.â
Nyla didnât spare him a glance, her expression showing annoyance.
After Clark left, she immediately threw the breakfast into the trash can.
Seeing the flowers and supplements on the floor, the nurse looked surprised. âMs. Jayston, these flowers and supplementsâ¦â
âThey fell on the floor accidentally,â Nyla said.
The nurse offered, âI can pick them up for you-â
âNo need,â Nyla interrupted, pausing before adding, âPlease throw them.
away.â
Some things shouldnât be hoped for if thereâs no future in them.
The nurse, assuming Nyla didnât want the items because they had fallen, said nothing more. She hooked up the IV and picked up the flowers and supplements before leaving.

Left alone in the room, Nyla closed her eyes, hoping for rest, but her mind kept replaying the moment Damon left. Even from a distance, she could see the iciness in his eyes.
Her heart ached, and her eyes stung with unshed tears.
There was no possibility between them. Pushing him away was the only path she could take.
That afternoon, after the doctor checked on Nyla and prescribed some medication, she was discharged.
The following morning, as soon as Nyla arrived at the office, Spencer came over with a young woman.
âMs. Jayston, the company has decided to assign someone to assist you with your work.â Spencerâs tone was frosty. He was still upset about Nyla throwing away the flowers and supplements in front of Damon the day before.
