Chapter 147
âEat your breakfast.â Clarkâs tone was cold, clearly upset by Nylaâs indifference.
Nyla replied, âIâm not hungry right now. Iâll eat later. You should go back
to work.â
Clarkâs anger, which had been simmering since earlier, finally boiled over. He looked at her coldly, his voice laced with accusation. âAre you not hungry, or do you just lose your appetite when you see me?â
Nyla frowned. âThatâs not what I meant.â
âThatâs exactly what you meant. When Grandma called you to the house last night, why did you lie and say you were having dinner with colleagues?â Clark demanded.
If he hadnât sensed something was wrong and called Valarie, he might still be in the dark about her lie.
Nyla lowered her gaze, her expression calm. âI didnât want you to worry.â
Clark sneered. âDonât take me for a fool, Nyla. Are you worried about me, or are you afraid Iâll drag my uncle down?â
She took a deep breath, her gaze growing icy as she met his eyes. â Clark, can you stop being unreasonable?â
âAm I the one being unreasonable, or are you hiding something?â Clark pressed.
He grabbed her chin and leaned in close, enunciating each word, âNyla, if you have any feelings for my uncle, youâd better stop them now. Do you think the Sumners will let him marry a divorced woman who was once his nephewâs wife?â
They were so close that Nyla could see the mockery and disdain in

Clarkâs eyes. It was as if he were laughing at her foolishness.
She pushed his hand away with disgust, meeting his gaze coldly. âDonât worry. I know my place. I have no inappropriate thoughts about him!â
Seeing the anger on her face, Clark suddenly chuckled. âGood. But let me remind you, donât play with fire.â
âNow that youâve reminded me, can you leave? I donât want to see your face!â Nyla hissed.
Her eyes were filled with loathing, and Clark felt a sharp pain in his heart -his breath became heavy.
âWhat a pity. Youâll have to look at it for the rest of your life!â he snarled.
Nyla didnât respond, turning away from him coldly.
âRemember to eat your breakfast. It will get stale and hurt your stomach,
Clark reminded.
Seeing her icy expression, he said nothing more and left the room.
As he opened the door, he saw Damon standing there, his expression unreadable. It seemed Damon had overheard the conversation.
Clark smiled. âUncle Damon, Nyla will be discharged this afternoon. You can leave now.â
Damon gave him a cold look and then gestured to Spencer. âPass the items to him.â
Spencer handed Clark some supplements and flowers, saying, âMr. Clark, these are from your uncle.â
Clark accepted them with a smile and turned back to Nyla.
âNyla, these are supplements and flowers from my uncle. See how thoughtful he is, coming to see you first thing in the morning. Anyone would think you two are very close!â he commented snidely.

Nyla didnât react to his sarcasm.
Clarkâs grip on the flowers tightened. He walked to Nylaâs bedside and leaned close to her ear, speaking so softly only they could hear. âNyla, you said you have no inappropriate thoughts about my uncle. Nowâs your chance to prove it. Throw away his gifts right in front of him, and Iâll believe you.â
Nylaâs hands clenched the blanket tightly, her already pale face turning even paler.
Seeing her hesitation, Clark smirked, but his eyes remained cold.â Whatâs wrong? Canât do it?â
