Chapter 130
Nyla widened her eyes and quickly asked, âWhich bar are you at?â
âThe one on Tancy Street, where we went before. Are you coming?â Valarie asked.
âYes,â Nyla answered, hung up, and hurriedly changed clothes to go out.
As Nyla started the car, she hesitated. She worried that showing up might escalate the situation, especially since she wasnât sure if Damon had hit Clark because of her. If it was for another reason, her presence would be pointless and embarrassing.
Nyla doubted Damon would do anything for her after their fallout at the Sumner residence.
After calming herself, Nylaâdecided against going.
Just as she returned to her bedroom, her phone rang. It was Valarie. Nyla, I was wrong. Damon wasnât trying to purge. He was standing up for Erin, who had a conflict with Jordyn at the mall earlier.â
Nyla gripped her phone with a bitter smile. It was a good thing she hadnât rushed overâshe would have made a fool of herself.
âI see,â she replied.
Valarie continued. âBut do you think Damon and Erin are dating? He seemed pretty protective of her.â
Nyla looked down, her expression indifferent. âMaybe. I donât know.â
âAnyway, it made me happy to see Clark get punched. When are you coming over? I still need to grill you about moving back in. You canât just brush me off,â Valarie said.
âIâm not coming over anymore. Iâm tired today. Letâs talk later,â Nyla said and hurriedly ended the call.

Putting down the phone, she forced herself to stop thinking about Damon. He and Erin were both single and wellâmatched. A woman like Erin seemed suitable for him.
Meanwhile, Erin was in the barâs private room, holding an ice pack and intending to apply it to Damonâs hand, but he pulled away.
âNo, thanks. I can do it myself.â His voice was cold, a stark contrast to the impulsiveness he had shown when hitting Clark. He seemed like a different person.
Over the past few days, Erin had gotten a sense of Damonâs personality and reluctantly handed him the ice pack.
âMr. Damon, you were too impulsive. I was fine, and it was Mr. Clarkâs secretary who offended me. Itâs unfair to hit him,â Erin said.
To her, Damon didnât seem like someone who acted on impulse. His actions felt more like a release of pentâup frustration than an act of
defense.
Damonâs expression remained cold. âHe deserved it. He canât event control his own people.â
Sensing something deeper in his words, Erin was about to probe further when the private room door opened.
âMr. Sumner, Ms. Hulle, sorry Iâm late,
Erin set aside her questions and smiled at the newcomer. âWe were early. Please, have a seat.â
Around 11:00 p.m., Nyla was halfâasleep when a knocking sound woke her. She frowned, turned on the bedside lamp, and looked toward the
apt
door without moving.
âNyla, open the door. I need to talk to you.â Clarkâs voice sounded from the other side.
Nyla didnât move or change her expression.
âItâs late. Whatever you have to say, letâs discuss it tomorrow,â she replied.
Clark didnât respond, but the knocking grew more insistent. It was clear he wouldnât leave until she opened the door.
Nyla took a deep breath and raised her voice. âClark, if you keep knocking, Iâll move back to my apartment tomorrow.â
The knocking stopped abruptly.
Nyla ignored it, turned off the lamp, and went back to sleep.
The next morning, as Nyla descended the stairs, she saw Clark sitting at the dining table with a gloomy expression. His face was bruised and
swollen.
Nyla was taken aback by the severity of Clarkâs injuries. She sat down at the table, and Patricia quickly brought her breakfast.
When Clark realized that Nyla had no intention of inquiring about his injuries, his expression grew colder. âNyla, canât you see my injuries? Arenât you going to ask about them?â
Nyla regarded him calmly. âIs it necessary? You probably got hurt while you were with Jordyn. Iâm not interested in the details.â
Clarkâs expression darkened, and he nearly crushed the utensils in his grip. He wanted to tell her that Damon had struck him but struggled to find a way to bring it up. He feared that stating it outright would make
