Chapter 124
Nyla stood still, sensing a dangerous vibe from Damon that made her instinctively want to flee.
âUncle Damon, itâs dark here, and itâs not appropriate for us to be alone. Iâll head back,â she said, turning to leave.
As she took a few steps, though, she heard footsteps behind her. Panicking, she tried to quicken her pace but stumbled and tripped.
She lost her balance, but a strong hand grabbed her waist and pulled
her back.
Nyla fell into Damonâs arms. She quickly pushed him away and stepped back.
Damon narrowed his eyes, the menace in them intensifying as he remarked, âYou use people and then discard them. Youâre quite skilled at that.â
Nyla bit her lip, feeling embarrassed. âUncle Damon, thank you for just now, but we should keep our distance.â
Damon stepped closer, and Nyla instinctively tried to retreat but found herself against the door of the greenhouse. She had nowhere to go.
When they were so close that they could hear each otherâs breathing, Damon looked down at her and said, âBut I donât want to keep my
distance.â
Nyla took a deep breath, looked up at him, and said, âUncle Damon, Ms. Hulle is more suitable for you. Sheâs beautiful and-â
Before she could finish, her eyes widened in shock. Damon grabbed her chin and kissed her, swallowing the rest of her words.
Nyla was stunned. For a moment, she was completely frozen. This was

the Sumnersâ home. Was he out of his mind?!
When she regained her composure, she shoved him away and warned,â Uncle Damon, have some respect!â
Fury filled Nyla as she glared at Damon with icy disdain.
âIf I hear you mention any other woman again, Iâll have to shut you up my way,â Damon said, his tone serious.
Nyla clenched her hands at her sides. She turned her gaze away and said coldly, âIf you donât want to hear it, I wonât say it. Can I leave now?â
If anyone saw her alone with Damon in the middle of the night, who knew what they would think?
Marie already disliked her. If Marie discovered Damonâs feelings for her, who knew what she would do?
Damonâs demeanor grew even colder. âDo you really not want to be around me that much?â
âUncle Damon, given our relationship, is it appropriate for us to be alone, together? You might not be affected, but have you considered what people will say about me?â
In the end, Nyla thought Damonâs feelings were just a fleeting
infatuation. If he truly cared about her, he wouldnât risk her reputation by cornering her late at night.
Damonâs gaze grew even colder as he questioned, âWho dares to speak. ill of you?â
Nyla scoffed. âYou canât control what others say.â
âI think youâre not afraid of others seeing us. Youâre afraid Clark will see us. Moving back so quicklyâare you worried that woman will threaten. your position?â Damon asked.

Nyla turned her head away, her expression indifferent, as she answered, âSince you know, you shouldnât be bothering me.â
Damon grabbed her chin, forcing her to look at him. His expression was chilling as he declared, âNyla, Iâm not someone you can easily provoke. You should have anticipated the consequences when you first involved me.â
âI already told you that was an accident,â Nyla said.
Damon chuckled. âLetâs say the hotel incident was an accident. But what about the times I saved you? Donât you think you owe me?â
Nyla bit her lip before asking, âWhat do you want me to do?â
âThatâs for you to decide,â Damon replied.
Nyla pushed him away, about to speak, when suddenly a flashlight beam illuminated their direction.
