He did not believe anyone, nor did he love anyone.

Even his brother, Aron, was not a person he trusted. Having faith in someone is expensive.

But it was strange.

Until now, Desian's life had always been empty.

He has a strong desire to live as if he was drowning in water, locked in someplace, struggling with all his might.

The mage behind the Duke of Pietro was controlling his senses, but it all stopped the night the meteor shower appeared above the capital.

'It is said that new objects have been discovered and abnormalities have been found in the world tree.'

After the disappearance of what's binding him, he started regaining his senses that are slowly spreading from his fingertips.

'So is there really... anyone out there?'

The answer to this question, he doesn't know.

***

The peace in the mansion did not last long. It was because the owner of the mansion and the father of the two brothers had returned.

After the duchess died from giving birth to the brother, he hasn't eaten much. Believing the notoriety of the 'curse' and regularly abuses his sons.

The dawn of that day was the same. He went straight to the basement in the outer residence where Dasian was. Shortly after, he received a whip from the old and loyal servant of the house. He entered the basement room and flogged the whip to the floor.

"I'm really insulted because of you, cursed bastards!"

The duke gritted his teeth as he looked at Decian, who was standing still. When he stepped forward, his face that was obscured by the shadow was revealed.

Prominent jawline, dark eyes and raised mouth. Despite the wrinkles on his face and around his mouth, it was still a gentle-looking man's face with a tinge of mystery at first glance.

Often enough, no one in the outside world noticed the obsession of wanting to kill his children.

"Those snake-like eyes!"

Whoop!

The man flogged the whip in his hand as it made a loud sound.

"Because of your curse the ship I invested in had sunk!"

The pioneering project for the new continent was ambitiously invested by him. Due to the steep route to the new continent, the duke's ship was constantly crashing with corals. As a result, the duke's anger has reached new heights.

Of course, the accident or misfortune was the result of scant knowledge of their destination. However, the duke considered all the misfortune was due to the 'curse' of the twins.

Once again, the angry whip wrapped around Desian's arm like a snake. A new red steak appeared on his originally wounded arm.

"It's because of you!"

"I know," Desian replied monotonously. He knows that all of this was simply the result of his anger. Nevertheless, the boy received the whip without any excuses. There wasn't even a groan.

"This terrible and nasty bastard!"

How many lashes has it been?

Desian's face was still expressionless and said nothing. Even the duke, who struck the whip endlessly, was exhausted.

There were new scars on Desian's skin, as his blood continuously flowed. He couldn't feel any pain, his body strangely becoming more numb.

The duke noticed his shoulders went sore, and stared at Desian and asked, "Aron, he's been living these days comfortably. Aren't you angry that he's not getting beaten?"

The duke's eyes narrowed and trembled.

Even in his anger, Desian's voice was calm. The duke's words seemed to have no effect on him.

"Do it moderately."

There was no fluctuation in his voice. When he finished speaking, he smacked the blood flowing on his arm with the back of his hand, the acquiring blood reflected.

The duke, who was staring blankly, stepped back unconsciously.

"Tch. Both of them are wrapped around each other."

The Duke was infuriated and left furiously. Crushed flesh and blood littered on the floor.

Desian looked out the door with an expressionless face. He doesn't feel anything. He wondered if his body would get sick after losing a lot of blood. Even if he was abandoned by his father, isn't that normal for that heartless man?

That short question briefly passed through his mind.

The bracelet glowed, like a tattoo in his arm. It was said to control his mana.

Desian looked down. He thought of the stupidity of that person, believing he could control him with this bracelet. Laughable.

He could feel he was slowly gaining control of his senses.

Leaving Desian alone, the duke went into his office. The time went by pretty fast and morning came.

He thought of his sore shoulder, he was actually in the same place as that cursed kid. His body felt sick.

The duke arrived at his office within the mansion and received a report from the butler.

"Your Excellency."

"Report."

"As you have commanded, we hired someone for the two young masters."

"Are you sure you picked people with sealed lips?"

"Yes. I have found people with sealed lips and are attentive, but there were only a few of them. We have screened them all."

The duke took what had been handed to him and read it slowly. His gaze changed a little.

"Citrina Foluin of the house of Baron Foluin." Hm. The duke thought as he laughed.

"No land and nothing to sell. Sooner or later, they'll be deprived of their title. Good. If this doesn't work, just cover it up with scandal. Let her get out of the outer residence in moderation."

The smile slowly disappeared on his face, and after some thought, said, "Ah, right. It's time to replace the bracelets on them."

He was afraid that his 'cursed' son would escape or rebel against him, so he previously let them wear something to restrain their mana. However, those won't always last long. Both of them are getting more and more unstable. The mage that created the sphere that controls them was having continuous contact with both of them, especially Desian, and said that their powers could explode one day.

"What? Again?"

"Yes. Maybe as long as they grow, the sphere that controls them may not function anymore."

At his words, he couldn't help massaging his temples with an unpleasant expression on his face.

"Hmm. After calling for me, Toloji is a reliable mage."

"Oh, a report came from a shipper as well."

"A shipper?"

Unlike before, the duke's responded quite differently. His eyes twinkled.

"That... It said that the crew was able to anchor at the northern part of Leticia harbour and... were all killed."

"What? Again?"

"Yes."

"This is not what I want!"

"The damage seems to be larger than expected."

"Ha."

The duke's face was distorted, and the butler just looked at the floor. The atmosphere was tense.

"All right. I have to go. I'm not going to attend the morning court."

"Yes, your excellency."

The duke replied with an unpleasant face, the butler skillfully handed him his jacket and the duke swung it on his stiff shoulder.

He's going to be away longer than expected.

***

On the other hand, Citrina could feel the slow change of atmosphere in the mansion. She recalled vivid memories, like someone delicately carving it in her-the memory with her teacher and the content of the novel.

'The duke will leave soon because of the shipping problem. Then no one will stay in the outer residence.'

These days, she accompanied Aron once a day after lunch, and they would have a friendly conversation.

He was gradually opening himself.

When the duke leaves, other than Aron and Desian, everyone will leave as well, like flowing water.

The duke of Pietro tried to isolate the annex, believing that he had neutralized it and that Deisan and Aron were not allowed anywhere else, so when he's away, he would minimize the people. Only one or two servants and the butler, Heled, who knew of his deeds.

"I'm not going to die," she said. She bit her lips as she pledged to herself. Even if she dies, she'll die after doing everything she wanted to do.

That's right. What was clear is that when the duke goes out, she'll get her full salary.

For Citrina and Aron, their days pass by slowly, and that's how their week has gone by.

When she felt the outside breeze was getting colder, a little change occurred. Heled went to Citrina, who was currently enjoying a relaxing tea time in her room.

"Today's schedule is meeting with young master Desian," Heled said, seemingly a little embarrassed, to which Cetrina noticed promptly.

A sudden encounter with Desian. This... This was not as planned.
