~Dedicated to love triangles~

Chapter Fifteen-"You know we could do so much more with that tongue, don't you think?"

You know how school is supposed to be the place where rumours spread like wildfire? Well, that was exactly true. When I got to school, the only thing that everyone was talking about was the whole showdown between Sean and Dave at the carnival. Of course there were tons of different versions of the story, some about how Sean was on drugs and others on how Dave freaked out about finding out he failed his driver’s license and took out his anger on Sean, but the one thing that was the same in all the stories was the fact that I, Vivienne Lanter, the girl who was called geek a few weeks back, was part of the fight.

Yeah, me, the geeky girl was somehow the root of this little brawl and everyone suspected that there was definitely a love triangle going on. It was funny really, because half of the people who were gossiping about me, never even spoke a word to me until now. And even now, it was just to find out who had won the fight and if I was really pregnant. Yes, Redwood High was definitely turning into one of those schools where rumours spiralled way out of control.

Walking into the first morning French class and taking my seat next to Juliet, I realised that everyone was giving me sidelong glances and whispering. With a roll of my eyes, I turned to my best friend who was shooting anyone she caught staring, her killer glare. For a moment, I smiled as I examined Juliet. Her red hair was pulled up into a loose ponytail and her bangs were pushed to the side of her forehead. Her green eyes were outlined by a thick layer of black eyeliner and her lips were bright red.

“Jules, is it just me or are you dressed up for a guy?” I suddenly asked.

Juliet turned to me and narrowed her eyes as she replied, “Guy? What guy, you know I don’t do guys from this school.”

I smiled knowingly, “How’s Chris?”

“Chris?” she repeated, “Why would I…know that?”

“Oh you know,” I replied, turning my attention to Mrs Flavia who had entered the class with a bright smile on her face.

“What’s she so happy about?” Juliet commented, changing the subject, “Maybe she got laid?”

I rolled my eyes at my best friend, “Please Jules.”

“Anyway,” Juliet replied, “you so owe me an explanation of last night.”

I gave Juliet a look of disbelief, “What so you don’t know?”

She shrugged before answering, “How would I? As soon as Sean arrived, I left after he dunked you and then I come back and you’re gone.”

“And you didn’t even think to call the cops to check if I was abducted?” I asked, my eyes widening.

Juliet laughed slightly, “Seriously Viv, you have a way too wild imagination and besides you were supposed to be on a date with Dave.”

I sighed, “You miss a lot.”

“So, what happened?” Juliet asked excitedly.

With a groan, I recited the whole fight between Sean and Dave, including the very oh-so-knee-wobbling kiss between Sean and I. I watched my best friend’s eyes light up with enthusiasm and as soon as I had finished my awful story about the carnival, I knew Juliet was bursting to say something, but before she could get the chance to, Mrs Flavia interrupted in her thick French accent.

“Attention class,” she called out, while clapping her hands to get everyone to stop talking.

Once the noise had died down, she smiled and continued.

“As you all know, this is your final year in Redwood and because you are my best pupils in this school, I’ve spoken to your Social Studies teacher, Mr Berkley and we’ve decided to take you all on a long awaited school trip.”

There was a loud cheer from some of the jocks who sat near the back, but Mrs Flavia shushed them before speaking again, “If you do Social Studies you will not only get to go to France,” there was another loud cheer, “but to Venice, Italy.”

Juliet beamed, “Holy crap Viv! We are so gonna get laid by French boys!”

My cheeks heated up slightly, before I replied, “Jules!”

She laughed at my expression, “Oh lighten up, think about it this way, Dave doesn’t do Social Studies and Sean does, so you can get some alone time with him in Venice…”

“Jules, don’t be silly,” I retorted, but couldn’t stop the redness spreading across my cheeks.

“Vivienne,” a sickly sweet voice called out.

I sighed, and braced myself for another encounter with the ruler of Hell and my arch nemesis, Jessica Hubert. Glancing up from locker, I turned to see the blonde princess wearing a shirt denim skirt and a hot pink tank top which had rhinestones spelling, ‘sexy’ across her very large boobs that I was really starting to think was bought for her sixteenth birthday. Now that I think about it, her boobs only did get big after she threw that big sweet sixteen bash that I wasn’t invited to because of the whole-

“So I heard that you and Dave are like totally a cutesy couple now,” Jessica interrupted my thoughts.

I nodded, “Yeah.”

“That is super sweet and everything but,” Jessica lowered her voice as though she was about to tell me a secret, “you should know that you’re not going to win Prom Queen.”

I frowned slightly, before pushing back my hair, “I wasn’t planning on running for Prom Queen.”

“Oh please,” Jessica snapped, “you should know that Prom Queens are nominated, they don’t ever nominate themselves.”

“Oh,” I replied dumbly.

“Yeah, and you’re supposed to be tutoring Sean Maths,” Jessica replied with a snobby tone, “I seriously don’t see why he even hangs out with you.”

I opened my mouth to say something smart, but realised that Jessica was probably right. Why did Sean even hang out with me? And then my inner voice suddenly grew louder. Don’t be stupid Viv! This is Jessica Hubert for crying out loud and the last time you checked, you were so done with this witch bossing you around and making you feel like some pitiful nun who didn’t deserve to even breathe the same air as her. And let’s face the facts Viv, Jessica’s only being like this right now because chances are, she’s just jealous about you having two seriously hot guys fight over you. Yeah, that’s it, she’s just jealous.

“I’m not sure either,” I answered, shutting my locker, “but maybe you should ask him.”

“Oh I will,” Jessica replied, “tonight at my party.”

I rolled my eyes, but my curiosity took the better of me, “A party for what?”

Jessica sighed, “Duh, it’s for the whole trip to Paris and Venice thing, you can come if you want to,” Jessica reluctantly said, “but just because I’m inviting you, it doesn’t mean we’re friends, got it?”

I shrugged, “I didn’t plan on it,” I replied.

Jessica smiled again, “Good,” she began to walk away then stopped and turned to face me again, “And remember, no upstaging me tonight, I need to get chosen for Prom Queen.”

With that said, I watched Jessica walk out of the school and wondered to myself that maybe if I had stood up for myself a long time ago, then maybe Jessica wouldn’t have seemed so bad. A long sigh left my lips and I turned to leave too but stopped when I spotted Dave approaching me with a lazy smile. I found my lips mimicking his smile as I took in his appearance. A plain white t-shirt and faded jeans covered his swimmer’s body, his hair was shining in the sunlight that filtered through the windows and his blue eyes were bright and alert.

“So I take it that you’ve heard about Jessica’s party?” he asked, throwing an arm around my shoulders.

I nodded, “Yeah, why?”

“Well Jessica’s parties are well-known for having awesome music,” Dave replied with a smile, “and if I remember correctly we didn’t get to dance the last party.”

I smiled in return, but my mind wandered back to dancing with Sean and how fun it had been. I remembered how my heart had been racing and I had felt free, with Sean’s hands on my hips and then the feel of his breath against my skin. The music had been loud and the rhythm was fast and the whole twirling around and dancing dirtily with Sean was probably the best part of the night. Instantly my cheeks warmed up, when I realised that I was fantasising about Sean when my boyfriend Dave was right next to me.

“Uh…uhm…” I stammered, “that would be…uh great?”

Dave grinned, “Yeah, it definitely will be,” he answered, not noticing a thing.

Sean yawned as he looked up from his Maths textbook before frowning slightly as he spoke, “Are we done yet?”

I rolled my eyes, “You do know that finals is just around the corner right?”

Sean pouted, “Stop being such a downer on my mood.”

“I’m not being a downer on your mood,” I retorted, “I’m just being-”

“A spoilt-sport,” Sean interjected with a mischievous smirk.

“Am not!” I retorted.

“Sure you’re not,” Sean replied sarcastically, “you’re craziest person I know.”

I stuck my tongue out at him.

“You know,” Sean began leaning closer, “we could do so much more with that tongue, don’t you think?” he added suggestively.

Heat spread through my face and I felt my palms getting sweaty. My breathing suddenly grew quicker and my heart began to beat out of rhythm. I could literally feel the chemistry in the air like electricity shooting from the sky. My eyes lowered to Sean’s full, perfect lips and I found my body arching closer to his. With a smile, Sean leaned closer, his breath fanning against my face, but before his lips could connect with mine, I heard someone clearing their throat. Instantly I jumped back in surprise. My face probably looked guilty as I glanced up to see Sean’s father standing at the doorway of the study with a nervous smile on his face as he looked around.

“Uh sorry if I’m,” Doug began, looking at Sean then me, “disturbing the studying,” he stated purposely, “but I just wanted to say that I was heading out on a dinner meeting with one of the company’s investors.”

Sean grinned, “Yeah sure, bye dad.”

Doug turned to me with another smile, “You have pepper spray in your bag right?”

I frowned, “Huh?” then quickly said, “Uhm…what do you mean?”

Sean rolled his eyes before replying, “He’s referring to me.”

“Yes Vivienne,” Doug replied in amusement, “although I trust my son, I really don’t want you to get hurt by his,” Doug turned his tone slightly stern, “womanising behaviour.”

“Dad,” Sean cut in, but he was smiling.

“Hey, I’m just warning the girl,” Doug defended, before he waved, “Right I’m off.”

As soon as Doug was gone, Sean turned to look at me with a smirk, “Yeah, that’s my dad. Cool about me having girls around but not cool about you.”

I frowned, “What do you mean?”

Sean opened his mouth to reply then stopped, as if he was realising that we were discussing girls and him, he stopped and changed the subject, “Hey, what time’s the party?”

I narrowed my eyes, but answered anyway, “At eight.”

“Then aren’t you going to go home to get ready?” Sean asked.

I shrugged, “Yeah I suppose.”

Sean wiggled his eyes suggestively, “For Davey?”

I frowned, “Sean!”

“What?” he asked innocently, “I was just asking,” he replied with a smirk.

“Are you going?” I asked instead.

Sean shrugged, “Well,” he turned to me, his hazel eyes connecting with mine, “I am now.”

Jessica’s house was on the rich side of town, a lot like most of the cheerleaders’ houses in Redwood. Not only was Jessica rich however, but she was scheming and cruel and seemed to enjoy picking on me. But that seemed to change, especially after Sean decided to help me get popular and Dave asked me out and let’s not forget the fact that Jessica thought that I had a chance at stealing her Prom Queen title, not that I had any intentions to, but it still made me feel slightly happy to know that a girl like Jessica thought that I stood a chance at taking her title.

The party was in full swing when I had entered the house and the music was blaring loudly. Jessica’s house was designed in a modern style, everything was either round or square and very white and black. It looked as though the house belonged in the city to a rich fashion designer or maybe some cosmopolitan model. The only thing that destroy the whole appearance of the rich apartment looking house, was the drunken jocks and giggling girls who were sprawled around the house.

A few girls were sitting around gossiping, some guys were having a drinking contest, among them were Matt who already looked drunk and in the dark corners were couples grinding against each other. I shuddered at the sight and made my way through to the living room, which had been converted into a dance floor. The room was large and unlike Chris’s house, where the lights had been dim, Jessica had gone all out and had flashing strobe lights flashing everywhere with a smoke machine in the corner of the room, making the whole room look a lot like a club.

“Viv,” a familiar voice called out.

I turned and spotted Juliet who was grinning from ear to ear at me. I took in the appearance of my best friend who wore ripped jeans and a strappy black top along with heeled boots. Her bangs were clipped back, allowing her green eyes to pop out. I could have sworn that she was the prettiest girl in the whole party, but then I was sure that Jessica would pounce on her and demand that she wouldn’t steal the title of Prom Queen.

“Jules,” I greeted, “you look gorgeous!”

“Merci,” Juliet replied, “you are très belle too.”

I smiled, “Thanks, so have you seen Dave yet? He was supposed to meet me here.”

Juliet nodded, before whispering, “Turn around.”

I did as Juliet instructed and spotted Dave who looked as though he had stepped out of Heaven. His hair was slicked back neatly, and his blue eyes sort mine out with eagerness. He wore a plain blue t-shirt, but it showed off his well-defined swimmer’s body and his jeans fit him snugly. A soft sigh escaped my lips, before I felt Juliet push me forward with a knowing smile, before she disappeared into the crowd, leaving me alone with Dave.

“Vivienne,” Dave breathed out, “you look beautiful.”

I glanced down at my black dress that ended just above my knee and smiled shyly, “Really?”

Dave tugged my chin up and smiled down at me, “Yeah really.”

Swallowing down an extremely girlish giggle, I replied, “So uh…do you want to dance now?”

Dave laughed softly before pressing his lips over mine slightly before replying, “Yeah, let’s dance.”

Taking my hand in his, he led me towards the dance floor where the music was loud and the lights were flashing in different patterns across everyone. I breathed in slightly giddy from the fact that things were finally working out with Dave and I wasn’t acting like a fool. Smiling down at me with his sapphire blue eyes, Dave leaned closer, bringing his hands to rest on either side of my sides as a new song suddenly began to play through the loud speakers.

I felt my body moving with the beat on its own accord, Dave moving with me as his hands slid to my hips as I swayed them to the beat. Dave grinned down at me as he tugged me deeper into the crowd. I smiled, feeling as the blaring music vibrate through my body as we pushed through the crowds of people around us. Suddenly, Dave turned back to me, his mouth moved close to my ear as his hands moved higher to my back as we moved to the beat of the song.

I let my fingers trail up Dave’s arms, before they hooked together around Dave’s neck. Feeling bold, I let my lips press against Dave’s lips. Instantly his mouth parted, his tongue sliding against mine as he deepened the kiss. I waited for the jolts of electricity or the butterflies, but the only thing I could feel was my heavy breathing and the beating of my heart which had increased ever since we began to dance to the music. I let my eyes open and saw that Dave’s were closed, him looking so sincere at that moment that I found myself feeling guilty for ever kissing Sean back at the carnival.

Slowly I pulled away, but instead of seeing everyone around me, I noticed that sometime during the kiss that the smoke machine had been turned on and the only thing that you could see through it was the bright strobe lights flashing through. Turning back to Dave, I gave him a half smile before I let my body flow back with the music. Ignoring the nagging in the back of my mind that was screaming, ‘Dave isn’t the one’, I let my body move rhythmically to the beat.

Suddenly, Dave took my hand in his and twirled me out. Everything around me blurred out of focus and for a moment I felt as though I was trapped in that between world where magic and reality met. The smoke around me, with the strobe lights flashing through made me forget to hold onto Dave and I felt my fingers slipping out of his grasp. I forced myself to stop spinning and turned in the direction I thought Dave was in, but when my eyes connected with slightly familiar faces from school and smoke, I realised that I had lost Dave somewhere in the chaos.

I began to push forward, when I felt a well-muscled arm snaking around my waist. A shiver ran through my spine and I let myself believe that Dave had found me. Instead of turning around to face him, I let my body lean back against the hard muscles of his stomach. Butterflies began to flutter around my stomach as I breathed in his strong musky scent as my hips slowly moved with the rhythm of the beat, but I found myself moving faster this time, following his lead. Closing my eyes, I let myself flow with the music and moving in synch with him.

Slowly, I felt his warm fingers trailing up my lower thighs, feeling them brush against the end of my dress, before they moved further up. I swallowed a gasp and let my hands move down to his and stop them from going up further. Biting my lip to stop a gasp from escaping as I felt tiny tingles shooting through my fingers as my hands connected with his, I felt his lips moving down against my neck. Tilting my neck slightly, to allow him more access, I felt his warm lips against my skin causing my heart to do a somersault.

Suddenly, I felt his hands spinning me around so that I was face to face with him. I felt my eyes widen when they connected with deep hazel eyes instead of sapphire blue ones.
