Chapter 908 Fred did not hurt his internal organs but had lost so much blood and hurt his bones that he was unconscious for a long time.
He was leaning against the head of the bed with pale lips. He almost got out of bed at the sight of Oliviaâs bandage on her arm.
âLiv, why are you hurt? Did Dorothy do this?â
Olivia shook her head. âIâm fine. Lie back and donât move. Be careful not to touch your wound.â
Not wanting Olivia to worry, Fred could only lay there obediently.
Ken looked at the two. âIâm going to check the test report. You two can talk. N Olivia glanced at his back suspiciously, feeling something strange.
âLiv, I suspect Dorothy set all this up.â
Fredâs words brought Olivia back to her senses. She sat on the edge of the bed and asked, âIâve been meaning to ask you why you came to Ocean City. Did Dorothy trick you into coming here?â
âNo one answered when I called. I tracked you down to find out youâve been in the hospital all along.â
Fred paused and continued saying, âJust then, I got a phone call saying you were dying and asked Lyla to come back and see you one last time.â
Olivia frowned. âNo way. I never got a call from you.â
âI was skeptical because there are plenty of such scams. So I checked the number and found it to be from the city hospitalâs emergency room. I had no problem calling from a different number too.
âBut I was still worried. I called Ken and Zac but couldnât get through.â
Fred bit his lip like a child who had done something wrong. âLiv, Iâm sorry. I was so worried that something had happened to you that I brought Lyla to Ocean City. I was also so worried that I might have overlooked something. Thatâs why they found out about us.â
Olivia patted his hand and shook her head, âYouâre not to blame. Itâs not your fault. Go on. What happened after you got off the plane?â
âI queued for a taxi after getting off the plane, so I didnât doubt the driverâs identity.â
Fred coughed slightly. âBut I noticed something was wrong halfway because he was getting increasingly off the route that it didnât look like we were going downtown. I thought I could handle one driver.
âI didnât realize there was a van behind me. As soon as I took care of the driver, a group of people rushed out of the van and dragged me off the car.
I was afraid theyâll scare Lyla, so I covered her face...â
âThen they left you by the roadside and took Lyla away?â
Fred nodded. âYeah, they knocked Lyla out, so I donât think Lyla saw anything gruesome.â
With that said, he asked worriedly, âHow is Lyla? Did you save her? Is she traumatized?â
âYeah, I did. Donât worry. Sheâs fine, physically and mentally.â
Fred breathed a sigh of relief. âThatâs good.â
Olivia was distressed to see the wounds all over his body and the bruises on his face. She reached out to caress his swollen cheek.
âHow did you find the bar?â
âThey crushed my phone. I couldnât inform you, nor could I catch up with them. So I drove the taxi to the bar to try my luck. What if... What if you were there?â
Fred smiled. âEven if you werenât there, I could call the police somewhere, couldnt I?â
Seeing his smile, a hot tear fell on Fredâs hand.
âHe must have been in a lot of pain...â
