Diane’s voice was a bit loud. With Maximilian putting down the phone again, Lucas could hear Diane’s words clearly.

For a moment he felt that time froze for a moment as his nerves tensed.

Behind him, Evelyn seemed to be saying something, but he couldn’t hear it.

The little girl said slowly, and her way of chewing words was adorable, “We met at the door. He is very nice. I like to play with him.”

“Oh?” Maximilian looked down at Lucas. “Have you made friends?”

Lucas wiped away her tears, saying, “I just want Daddy.”
