Everyone started gossiping. With a calm face, Cecelia asked, âOllie, I donât know where you got that rumor from. What proof do you have?â
âI have proof! I know the general manager of Vera in the Cathail Republic. I can call him right away.
Letâs hear what he has to say.â
Ophelia wanted to ruin Ceceliaâs reputation. And Heather didnât stop hér because she couldnât wait to see Cecelia be humiliated.
âYeah! Call him!â
Cecelia smiled lightly and had a calm look in her eyes.
Ophelia made the call in public and got in touch with the general manager, whom she knew. Then, she put her call on speakerphone and asked him who had bought Veraâs couture dress.
Ophelia lifted her chin and waited for the general managerâs answer. And everyone around her listened carefully to the conversation.
Soon, a manâs voice came from the speaker. âMiss Linsey, the couture dress you were looking at last time was bought in full by a lady named Cécelia.â
His words left Ophelia in disbelief. âThatâs not true! Didnât you say last time that it was bought by a married businessman?â
âMiss Linsey, are you mistaken? You wanted to buy a couture dress, but it was already sold. Then, you chose another blue dress, but a businessman bought that one. You did not choose another dress after that. If you need anything, welcome to come to our Vera flagship store and chooseâ¦â
Ophelia didnât listen to what the manager said after that. Then, in a pánic, she hung up the phone.
At first, she wanted to make a public spectacle of Cecelia. However, she had shot herself in the foot.
Now everyone knew that the dress she was wearing was not Veraâs dress at all, which proved that she was wearing a knockoff dress! The surrounding people started snickering and gossiping about her.
Seeing her daughter make a fool of herself, Heather rushed over and pulled Cecelia away. âCecelia, itâs so nice to have you home. Iâd like to introduce you to some friends. Come! Come on! Come on!â
Ophelia froze in place after Cecelia was dragged away. She felt the blood flowing backward throughout her body. And she had a faraway look on her face.
It was so humiliating!

She had bought a knockoff gown because all the gowns she had an eye on had been bought by someone else. And she didnât want to be ashamed at the party.
However, she hadnât expected Cecelia to expose her in public!
How could Cecelia be such a pain in the as s!
Ophelia hated Cecelia so much that Opheliaâs nails dug into her pálms.
Kathrin came over and comforted Ophelia. âOllie, donât take it personally. Itâs just a dress. She just said that to make you look bad and to humiliate you! Come on. Iâll go with you to change into a dress, and come back later!â
Kathrin pulled Ophelia out of the ballroom. Then, Heather dragged Cecelia into the ballroom and ran into Gary and a few of his friends.
A few of his friends kept complimenting, âMrs. Linsey, congratulations on getting your daughter back.
Cecélia is so beautiful! Sheâs amazing!
âMrs. Linsey, now, you have two daughters. You are so lucky. And, today happens to be your birthday.
What a blessing!â
âThank you. Thank youâ¦â
Upon hearing the compliment, Gary could only accept the guestsâ congratulations and smile awkwardly.
In fact, he and Heather were very nervous because they both had bad feelings in their hearts. They were afraid that Cecelia would reveal what had happened back then!
After all, they knew that there had been a fire at the Linsey residence, but they had not called the police and had chosen to keep it to themselves.
With a smile on her face, Cecelia said, âFive years ago, there was a fire at the Linsey residence. I survived. The second month after the fire, my mother passed away. Now, Iâm back home. And Iâve noticed how much the Linsey residence has changed. Dad, I didnât realize that you and my aunt had been married for five years. How time. flies!â
The crowd was shocked at her words. When they came back to their senses, they also started pointing at Gary and Heather.
Whether Garyâs daughter was alive or dead in the fire that happened in the Linsey residence five years ago was unknown. However, Gary

How could Gary be such an as shole?
Heather was so da mn calculating. She married Gary not long after her sisterâs death.
Anyone would believe that Heather and Gary must have had an affair a long time ago!
Cecelia put Gary and Heather in an awkward position once she spoke up.

After figuring out the Linsey familyâs relationship, one of the guests said to Heather, âMrs. Linsey, I now realize that Garyâs ex-wife Leila and you are sisters. Youâve gone from being an aunt to being the mother of your sisterâs children. Cecelia and you have become much closer to each other!â
Heather felt her face burn with pain, but she smiled and explained, âI couldnât help it. After my sister died, I was very sad. I just thought Iâd help her take care of her kids. I treat Cecelia as if she were my own daughter. I want to help my sister take care of the Linsey family!â What a hypocrite! Didnât Heather find her words ridiculous?
Heather didnât even dare to mention how she abused, humiliated, and tortured Leila during her stay in the hospital.
She would do anything to marry Gary!
âAunt Heather, you were so good to me. My mother only gave birth to my brother and me.
Unfortunately, my brother disappeared at a young age. I was in a fire five years ago. My mum has since passed away. I donât know which child you helped my mother take care of.â Ceceliaâs questioning left Heather speechless and embarrassed. Heather had nothing to say. Then, Gary quickly came up and said, âCecelia, Iâm so happy to have you back. Itâs been five years since you came home. Your aunt and I have missed you so much!â
Heather was very good at acting and even squeezed a tear out of her eye. âThatâs right, Cecelia. I missed you every day you were away. Itâs good to have you back alive.â
âAunt Heather, really? Since youâve missed me so much, it seems Iâve come back at the right time.â
Cecelia forced a smile.
Heather continued to play nice. âThatâs right. Weâll be family from now on. Iâm sure Iâll treat you like my own daughter. And you and Ollie are sisters too.â
âYeah. Ollie and I are sisters. You asked me to replace Ollie to marry the sick son of the Nelson family.
You must have wanted me to have

a good life. I got you. I will do as you say from now on.â
Everyone around her knew how biased Heather was. How could Heather be so brazen as a stepmother?

Cecelia wrapped her arm around Heather and patted her on the back. âAunt, I canât thank you enough.
Youâre closer to me than my mother was. Donât worry. Iâll take good care of you from now on.
Heather forced a smile. Why did she feel creeped out after hearing her say something like that?
After releasing Heather, Cecelia smiled, but her eyes were icy cold.
Cecelia thought, âI will never get along with you cruel creatures!
I have come back to collect my debt from you!
And you will all wait to pay for it!
Heather, Iâm going to teach you a lesson right away!â
