Bakugo POV

Day of the sports festival...

I'm pumped up and ready to go— today is U.A's famous sports festival, where pro heroes from all over Japan will be watching the students push ourselves to the limits. I crack my knuckles.

"Excited, Bakugo?" Pikachu asks.

"Hell yeah," I respond.

"And here they are, U.A's first years of the hero course: Class 1-A!" Present Mic trills. We step out into the arena as the full crowd cheers wildly.

Other classes step out as they are introduced, but they're just extras; we're the real stars of the show and everyone fucking knows it.

"And now, the athlete's oath," Midnight purrs, "spoken by Class 1-A's Katsuki Bakugo!" She flicks her whip at me as I step up onto the podium.

"The athlete's oath," I begin flatly. I pause for a moment.

Whatever the hell is going on with me and Deku needs to get out of my head. I'm here to win, and I've worked my ass off to get into U.A.

"I just wanna say," I change my mind from doing the prepared oath. Fuck it. "I'm gonna win."

The other extras scream their disappointment and shock at me. "Why would you be so disrespectful as our representative!" Four-eyes shakes a rectangular hand at me.

Deku catches my gaze. That damn nerd.

"Not my fault the rest of you are just stepping stones to my victory," I retort, gesturing a thumbs-down at them all. "At least now you know what a future pro looks like. Now move it extras."

I trudge down from the podium and shove past the booing classmates, banging into Deku with my shoulder. I have to win. I'm going to push myself. I'm gonna do whatever it fucking takes.

"And, without further ado, the first event of the sports festival is..." Midnight pauses for suspense. "The Obstacle Race!"

The crowd applauds loudly as she explains the rules. We line up to start.

I breathe in and out. I'm gonna win, I'm gonna beat Deku. I'll prove that he's nothing.

"And... START!" Present Mic shrieks.

I hurtle past a bunch of extras with lame quirks, until I'm faced with a giant robot, similar to the ones from the entrance exam. Piece of fucking cake, I think as I blast it out of my way without stopping.

The next obstacle is one of the three-pointer bots. I get ready to explode it, but sharp shards of ice splinter it before I can do anything. It falls to the ground.

"DAMN IT, ICYHOT!" I yell. I've been to focused on beating Deku that I forgot about how much of a threat this bastard is.

"Todoroki is in the lead, as we'd expect from the son of the number two hero!" Present Mic announces. The crowd cheers wildly.

Damn it, I cant let that Canadian flag steal my victory. I use my explosions to propel myself forward, leaping into the air, my feet not touching the ground. A smart move, since Half 'n' Half has now frozen several competitors' feet to the floor.

Candy-cane halts when he comes to the next obstacle, a tricky pathway with the ground fallen away leaving skinny pillars for us to precariously pass. He's only stopped for a millisecond, but that's all I need to blast myself past him and make it swiftly over the pillars without harm. He makes it through, gaining on me, until we're nose to nose. Damn.

A girl with shoulder length pink hair, decked out in weird gadgets, flies past us and into the next obstacle, but jumping in head-first is her disadvantage. The ground erupts fiercely.

"Shit!" I shout in frustration. A mine field? Seriously?! My arms are getting tired from keeping me jumping in the air with my quirk. This is the last thing I fucking need.

Half 'n' Half is making his way over the mines that are still un-erupted, picking his steps slowly like a grandmother picking peaches at a market. I flex my wrists and power up again, blasting myself into the air and attacking Icyhot from behind. He trips over the ground and a series of small mines go off, but not enough to stop him completely.

KA-BOOM!

"What the—" I whip my head around, searching for the source of the deafening sound and — "DAMN IT! DEKUUUU!!!! GET YOUR ASS BACK HERE!" I holler.

Deku sails through the air over our heads, clutching a piece of the robot, his hair blowing behind him in the wind. He hits the floor and skids into the stadium. That little...

"WOAH!" Present Mic screams. "By digging up all the unused bombs, Izuku Midoriya has created a blast big enough to shoot himself into first place. Ladies and gentlemen, we have a winner of the first round of the sport's festival!"

I stop still in my shock, and Icyhot sprints past me, crossing the finish line in second. No, no, no, damn it! I snap out of my trance rapidly and hurl myself to the finish line.

"In second place, Shoto Todoroki, and following close behind, Katsuki Bakugo!"

"HUH?!" I clench my teeth. Third place? That's synonymous with big fat loser. I let out a yell of frustration.

The other students stream in behind me, until almost everyone has returned, except for the few taken to Recovery Girl's office.

I'm still seething as Midnight moves over to the podium again. "The top forty-two students will be moving onto the next round of the festival. And that..." she says in a seductive tone, "is the calvary battle! By forming a horse with your teammates, your goal is to capture as many points from the other team as possible. First place has the most points, and forty-second place has the least! Quirks are allowed, but viciously attacking another student to knock them down will result in your team being disqualified. It's not over till it's over — just don't let your rider's feet touch the ground! Now, go, and form your teams!"

So Deku's plan backfired. Ha! He'll be the main target, and no-one will want to team up with the little bastard. There's no way in hell that he can survive this round.

"Bakugo!"

"Huh? Oh, weird hair."

"The name's Kirishima — remember it! And My hair's not that much different from yours! Anyway, you wanna take down Midoriya-kun, right? If you're a rider, you need someone strong to take all your explosions — that's me! Let's team up, man!"

"Fine," I grunt.

"What about meeee?" Pinky runs up to me.

"Yeah, me too!" Soy-sauce adds.

"Wait, what're your quirks?"

They both groan and remind me. I agree to take them on, and we form our horse, with Hair-for-brains in the front and me as the rider.

"Have you formed your teams? If not, too bad!" Present Mic hollers. "The calvary battle begins in three... two..."

"We're going for that ten million," I growl to my team.

"ONE!!!!" Mic screams.

We move our formation easily, going straight for Deku's team, but of course all the other extras want his points too. Damn!

"OUTTA MY WAY!" I yell at the other teams. Racoon Eyes shoots her acid out on the side, clearing a path for me to get to Deku. I'm almost there when Icyhot's team dashes in front of me, momentarily distracting me.

Then, I feel my headband loosen its hold.

"Class A is too simple minded, really," a boy with smooth blonde hair drawls while twirling my headband on his finger.

"He got us!" Pinky shrieks.

"What the hell'd you say, you bastard?!" I shout. "I'll freaking kill you!"

"I'd like to see you try," he responds calmly. "You're the kid from the sludge incident, aren't you?"

I can feel my face contort in rage. "Kirishima..." I growl. "Change of plans. KILL THIS BASTARD!!" I lunge for the other boy. "Shineeeee!" I yell. (die/go to hell) I hit him with an tough explosion, but I'm nearly knocked off my horse as it backfires on me. What the...

"Nice quirks!" The blond smirks. Kirishima slams his fist into Monoma's arm, only to be met with a mirror image. "Mine's better, though!"

"He— the bastard can copy quirks!?" I rage.

"Don't get mad at me, though... what'd you claim? Let me think... oh, you said you'd win? I highly doubt it." The little shit's team scampers away, with Monoma waving confidently.

"GET BACK HERE!" I shout.

"So persistent..." he sighs. He doesn't turn his head to look back, and that's his downfall, because I leap from my horse, propelled by my explosions, sailing through the air to attack him.

"Huh?! Tsubaruba!" he shouts.

One of his teammates uses his quirk to create a glasslike protection around them, but I bring a ferocious right hook to shatter it easily. I grab the headbands from around the blond's neck and yank them off of him.

"Woah!! Team Bakugo grabs two headbands and jumps into third place!"

Soysauce wheels me in with his tape and I land on top of my horse.

"We'll definitely make it through to the next round!" Kirishima exclaims.

"Not done yet!" I pound his shock of hair repeatedly. "We're getting that first place, and the ten million!" I'm gonna beat Deku. I'm gonna—

"Tiiiiiiiiiiiime's UP!"

I fall off my horse and hit the ground face first. Banging my fist on the floor, I yell curses at the dirt.

"In first place, we have the expertly skilled Team Todoroki! Second place goes to Team Bakugo!"

"GAHHHH!" I yell. Second place isn't good enough.

"Third place is — woah, team Shinso! No one saw that coming! And our final team going to the next round is... Team Midoriya!"

I scream again.

"Chill, Bakubro!" Kirishima comes over to me.

"NO!" I roar. "I have to win!!"

I have to win.
