Chapter 50 : "I'm really sorry for everything."
**********************************************
Saturday nights feel way better when knowing that they'll occur on every weekday.
It was two hours past midnight, my parents were asleep and I was lying on my bed, eating hot cheetos, and watching Netflix.
Because let's be honest, that's all I like to do after long relaxing showers and a long lazy day.
I frowned in confusion when my phone began ringing, who would call at this time?
When I checked the screen and I found 'Idiot' on the screen, I realized it was Aaron calling.
I didn't hesitate to pick up, because that's Aaron, duh.
"Hello?"
"Ayyyee, Oreoooooo!" Aaron said sloppily and I frowned even more.
"What's up?" I said.
"I miss you." Aaron said, lowering his voice, and my heart warmed up.
"I saw you two days ago." I chuckled.
"Open the doooor, I'm freezing!" Aaron replied and I sat up straight.
"What are you talking about?" I furrowed my brows, getting worried now.
"Open your house door and let me in, we have to finish chemistry." Aaron responded, laughing at the end.
"You're not making any sense, gosh, are you at my house Aaron?" I asked, standing up already.
"Yes, I told you I miss you." Aaron replied and I shook my head.
"You're drunk, aren't you?" I muttered as I quietly opened my bedroom door.
If my parents wake up now, a disaster will occur, easily.
"Maybe." Aaron replied with a chuckle and I sighed as I walked down the stairs slowly, careful not to make any sounds or trip any moment, since the only light available is my phone's flashlight.
I reached the door quickly enough and immediately felt the rush of wind gust against my face as I opened it and I shivered in cold.
I found Aaron literally slumped on the floor in front of the door, his car parked in our driveway and I gasped at the sight of him. He's pretty much wasted.
"God, what have you done?" I said in a low voice and looked around, trying to avoid being seen by our neighbors.
"Heeeey, you opened the door, I nearly froze my ass off." Aaron said and ended our call that I forgot about in the first place.
"Come on, let's get inside." I said, kneeling down, trying to hoist Aaron up by his arms, which is impossible because he's twice my size.
However, Aaron got what we're doing here and he helped me pull himself up and then he nearly tripped but I caught him and put his left arm around my shoulder.
I was thankful that I'm wearing a hoodie, because it's so cold, I can't feel my hands anymore just from standing here for a couple of minutes.
"We're going in now, okay? I need you to be quiet, my parents can't know you're here." I whispered to Aaron and he looked at me, the dark circles under his eyes visible even in the night, and he nodded his head.
We slowly stepped inside as I closed and locked the door and then we headed upstairs. On the way up, Aaron was super clumsy, probably due to the dizziness caused by the alcohol he consumed.
The alcohol smell wafted off of him and I cringed. Why is he drinking alone and why is he here?
I had no time to think of that though, I didn't know how but I have to take care of this.
To take care of Aaron, like he's done for me multiple times.
Our house is pretty much an average small sized three people house, so we made it safely to my room pretty fast and I shut the door gently and turned on the lights as Aaron stumbled in.
Aaron sat on my bed and I furrowed my brows at him, "What happened?" I asked.
"Everything's fine." Aaron chuckled sarcastically and I felt an amount of worry take over my body.
"I'll get you some water, don't go anywhere okay?" I said firmly and Aaron yet again, just nodded silently at me.
It took me a good five minutes to go back downstairs quietly and get some water for Aaron. I'm beginning to wonder what brought him here so much.
"Here." I handled him the water and he took little sips out of it.
I sat down next to Aaron and placed my hand on his shoulder unconciousely. "Is everything okay?"
Aaron looked at me, a sad distant look in his eyes that made me upset, "Does it seem like that?"
I didn't say anything and we stayed in silence for a couple of minutes.
I was pulling my hand away when Aaron suddenly put his hand over mine on his shoulder, stopping me, "Please don't pull away." He said, his eyes looking bloodshot.
"Okay." I gave him a smile and he sighed.
"I'm so drunk, and so stupid." Aaron laughed, tugging at his hair frustratingly.
"You're amazing, that's what I know." I contradicted and Aaron glanced at me, giving me a small grin that made my heart happy.
"Look at me, I'm drunk and I drove around after I got wasted and now I'm at a girl'ssss house." Aaron slurred and I sighed.
"You're not at any girl's house though, I'm your friend." I said, rubbing Aaron's shoulder in a comforting manner and Aaron looked at me.
"Don't you see, that's the problem." Aaron said and I didn't understand what he meant, but before I got the chance to ask, he continued.
"I'm about to have the worst Christmas with my little brother, my dad is gone, my mom is always gone, and yet I have to manage school and college?" Aaron said and I felt my heart cracking.
"Everything is shit, Ellie, don't you see? I have a shitty life." Aaron continued and I sucked in a deep breath.
"I hate everything, I'm so stupid Ellie, what am I doing here?" Aaron shook his head, but then Aaron started drunk crying and I lost it there.
"You're here because I'm always there for you." I said and instantly wiped at his tears when he started crying. It took me by surprise, and I fought so hard to hold my own tears in. The sight of him was too painful.
"I'll never leave your side, okay? You'll get through this, we'll all help you, I'll do everything I can Aaron." I said, never breaking eye contact and another tear slowly trailed down Aaron's cheek onto my hands, but thankfully it was the last one.
"You're so nice, I like you." Aaron slurred and I laughed and then for some reason went in for a hug.
He's probably not gonna remember any of this anyways.
Aaron quickly wrapped his arms around my back and placed his head on my shoulder. I just sat still because in that moment, nothing had to be said. Aaron's life is clearly falling apart and I will be there for him. Not because I have to, not because I owe him, but because I want to. Because he's driving me insane and my feelings are all over the place for him.
Aaron eventually pulled back and I smiled at him, "We should go to bed right?"
Aaron nodded, his eyes drooping slightly, he's probably too drunk to process shit right now.
"Don't we have to finish chemistry?" Aaron said and I laughed.
"Not that I know of."
I stood up and turned off my laptop, took away my hot cheetos and pulled my bed's duvet away.
Should I sleep next to Aaron? No, what would I say in the morning?
I took one of the pillows thrown on my bed, and placed it on the floor as I prepared to place some sheets beneath it, and try to get some sleep.
But firstly I had to lock the doors, just in case my parents decided to wake up earlier than expected and walk in my room.
I didn't expect that my breath will be blown away when I turned around but yes, it was.
Aaron was taking his hoodie off, and I felt like drooling at the sight of his abs, his broad shoulders, or maybe his biceps? Everything about him makes me want to drool.
Aaron looked at me, and I thought he was going to smirk and make fun of my staring, but I guess he was too much in a haze to comprehend anything.
I turned off the lights and walked over to my bed, "Come on." I called out for Aaron and he pulled himself under the covers.
"If you need anything, wake me up, but be quiet okay?" I said and Aaron frowned.
"You're staying here right?"
"Yes, right there." I smiled reassuringly at Aaron, pointing at the floor.
Aaron shook his head, "No no, please stay next to me."
I sucked in a sharp breath nervously, "Aaron, I don't think-"
"Please." Aaron cut me off, looking at me pleadingly.
It was too hard to say no to him, when he's in this state. Or any state really, it's freaking Aaron Owens, who in their right minds would say no to that.
I nodded and Aaron scooted away to make space for me next to him, and pretty much fifteen seconds later, he was already asleep.
What really messed me up though, was when he unconsciously draped one of his arms over my stomach, pulling us even closer.
I slept that night, with my feelings all over the place, in Aaron's arms, safe and happy.
Oh, and I also made sure to set an alarm to wake us up before my parents.
**********************************************
I woke up about five minutes ago, shocked to see that my super loud alarm managed to wake only me up, while Aaron is still sound asleep.
Then I stared at him for five whole minutes wondering two things.
Number one, how the fuck am I going to move his arm away from me.
Number two, what will I tell him?
After everything that's happened last night, it's going to be so awkward if we go over that. Plus, he might not remember how he ended up here. I'm just thankful nothing happened when he drove in this state.
I finally gathered up enough courage to nudge Aaron. Which didn't wake him up.
So I went at it again, a little harder, and I also spoke, "Aaron, get up."
Aaron's head tilted a little as he tried opening his eyes, and after he did, he immediately groaned in pain.
"What's going on?" He whispered and I laughed a little.
"Well, you're in my room for starters." I said and Aaron widened his eyes, looking at me.
"Wait, Ellie?" Aaron said and I laughed.
"Oh my god, who did you think was talking to you!" I exclaimed and Aaron sat up straight.
"I don't know, I wasn't concentrating, god, I feel like shit." Aaron said, rubbing his eyes and I grabbed the painkillers that he refused to take last night, and the glass of water that he failed to swallow whole.
"Here." I passed them over to Aaron and he thanked me.
"I'm so sorry Oreo, I don't know why I came here, I don't remember." Aaron shook his head.
"Oh, stop," I said, "I'm glad you arrived here safely."
"Fuck, I drove here alone." Aaron said frowning and I nodded.
"Please, don't ever do that again, this time you managed to arrive safely, but you never know what can happen." I said and Aaron nodded his head.
"I don't know how I fucking got drunk and drove here, what's wrong with me?" Aaron said and I sighed.
"Hey, don't go all hard on yourself, it's okay, you weren't thinking." I replied and Aaron looked at me.
"Was I actually lying on your porch or was that just a dream?" Aaron said and I grinned, "Please say it's the latter."
"I wish I could." I laughed and Aaron looked at me, horrified.
"Do you remember anything else?" I asked and Aaron shook his head.
"Was I crying?" Aaron asked and my heart clenched as I was reminded of that.
I nodded my head silently and Aaron sighed.
"I'm really sorry for everything." Aaron said and I huffed.
"Stop apologizing dude, if I were in your place, would you leave me alone and be pissed because of me?" I responded and Aaron smiled at me.
"If I could, I would always take care of you." Aaron said and my heart melted right there.
Aaron's eyes suddenly widened, yet again, "Your parents?"
"Asleep, no worries, it's still eight-thirty, we literally slept for like, six hours only." I explained and Aaron let out a breath of relief.
"What happened?" I asked softly.
"You don't have to tell me." I instantly added and Aaron looked away, pulling the covers off of him completely, and I glanced nervously at his chest.
He's so hot.
"No, no, you deserve to know why I showed up drunk at your house in the middle of the night." Aaron said and I didn't respond because there was nothing to say really.
"Mom won't show me the test results she got at the hospital, she's not even drinking, well, to be honest, she's not doing anything anymore." Aaron said, "I think she's really sick."
"What if she's not sick, why do you think that?" I said, in hopes of comforting Aaron but he smiled coldly at me.
"She's always throwing up, or using the wall for support because she gets too dizzy to walk on her own, she won't show me the results, Ellie." Aaron explained and I nodded my head.
"I'm very sorry, Aaron, I wish I could help, maybe you can wait for her to feel comfortable enough to tell you." I said and Aaron smiled at me, a genuine smile this time.
"That's what I'll do, thank you." He said and I smiled.
"I hate to do this okay?" I started out of nowhere and Aaron frowned.
"Do what?"
"I don't wanna be rude, you know of all people that I love hanging out with you!" I said and Aaron smirked.
"Is that so darling?"
I rolled my eyes, "Oh shut up."
"What is it?" Aaron laughed.
"My parents might wake up any minute now, so I thought you might wanna freshen up in the bathroom.." I said, not finishing the sentence, about how he should leave.
"Right, right, okay I'll be quick." Aaron said and walked into my bathroom.
He was really quick, and then he put on his shirt, which was excruciatingly painful because he's so attractive, and then he left without my parents waking up. I can't believe a boy slept over and they had no clue.
Aaron told me before he left, "I might call you, Oreo."
I smiled and nodded only, but on the inside I was a mess.
