Shortly after school was over and everybody was dismissed Barry made his way to the Battle club to wait for Ash. It was open for several house after school anyway so they had plenty of time. As promised Ash had agreed to train with Barry to try and help improve him in battle.
Soon Ash entered the battle club with a rather stern look alongside him his partner Pikachu.
"Alright Barry, get over here I need to explain to you my tactics first off," Ash told. Barry obliged and walked over to him.
"So I've developed a battle style based on high intensity pressing and controlled flow of the battle," Ash explained. "You with me so far?"
"Yeah," He nodded.
"The purpose is to dominate matches through relentless energy and tactical superiority. Though  it may increase the fatigue of your Pokémon and sometimes may leave your Pokémon wide open to a counterattack if you don't execute it correctly," Ash added.
"I see... I think I get it know," Barry rested his chin on his hand. "Now I understand why it would seem that you battle so aggressively out there."
"Mhm." Ash nodded. "But before I teach you, I think we should have a battle so I can see how you currently battle."
"Hm, You got it!"
As Barry took one side of the field preparing himself Ash had gone over to Don George to request him to referee their battle. Don George agree and walked to the middle of the battle field.
"Hey Barry! We'll use two Pokémon each. Just a little warm up," Ash shouted from the other side of the field.
"Okay two Pokémon... got it!" Barry agreed.
"I'm gonna use Pikachu and Frogadier. And I'll use Pikachu first," Ash Said.
"In that case I'll use my Skarmory and Roserade," Barry told. "Now let's get this started Ash!"
"Alright, battle begin!" Don George raises his arms.
"Okay Frogadier, stand your ground and wait for the, to attack first," He strategized.
"Roserade Let's get some pressure going. Use Energy ball," Barry demanded.
The Grass/Poison type Pokémon began to launch huge Energy ball attacks toward Frogadier. As they were closing in on Frogadier...
"Hmm... a super effective move I see... Frogadier cut those out with cut!" Ash shouted. Frogadier leaped forward a bit and used its Cut move to cut the energy balls in half all whilst moving with great speed and agility.
"Man, his Frogadier's speed is something else," Barry murmured.
Frogadier finished the attack off by hitting Roserade with its Cut move causing a small explosion inside the field.
"Now Aerial Ace Frogadier, now!"
Frogadier once again leaped quickly this time into the air and hit Roserade with a super effective Flying type move causing great damage. Roserade was on the ropes...
"Use Sludge bomb Roserade! While you can!" Barry shouted.
Roserade attempted to do so but once again Frogadier was able to leap into the air and use its speed to its advantage. Every time Poison attack was about to make contact, Frogadier was gone.
"Man, oh man. His speed is just too much. We can't make a single move make contact!" Barry shouted in frustration.
Ash smirked. "Now get in there and use Cut again!"
As Frogadier was about to end the battle...
"Quick, Trap it Roserade!"
Roserade used all its remaining energy it had left and trapped Frogadier into a tight grasp very aggressively.
"Hah! If we can't beat it with speed then we'll just have to out muscle it," Barry said. "Now use Toxic!"
Since Frogadier was being grasped firmly by Roserade the Toxic move was effective immediately causing Frogadier to be Poisoned.
"There we go. That'll even things out a bit don't ya think?" Barry shouted.
"I wouldn't be so sure Barry. If there's one thing you don't want to do when battling, is to get cocky," Ash fired back. "Frogadier break free from there."
Frogadier managed to use its Strength to break free from Roserade pushing it back a bit.
"Now Water Pulse!"
Frogadier launched a pool of water towards Roserade making direct contact. While it was not very effective it did manage to cause confusion to Roserade.
"Argh, it's confused!" Barry shouted.
"According to plan," Ash told. "Now end it with Aerial Ace."
Since Roserade was confused it could not react in time when Frogadier came in from the air and launch it into the air with a powerful Aerial Ace attack. Roserade hit the ground painfully.
Don George observed its state for a moment before giving his verdict.
"Roserade is unable to battle. Frogadier is the winner," He announced.
"Good Frogadier," Ash praised as he tossed it a Pecha Berry. "Now return."
"Roserade you did a good job too. Return buddy," Barry spoke softly. "I'll tell you something Ash. That Frogadier's speed is a huge threat for anyone who goes against it."
"Yeah. I give it some special training to keep its speed as fast as possible. Also its evasiveness," Ash added.
"Well, shall we go into our Second Pokémon?"
"No," Ash said. "We don't need to. I figured out exactly how to help you."
"Really? So what is it then Ash? What is it that I'm missing?" He inquired eagerly.
Ash took a seat on a nearby bench. "For starter when you're attacking you leave to much open space for a counterattack. Remember when I told you high intensity pressure?"
"Yeah," He nodded.
"When you do that make sure to not leave yourself wide open to a counterattack. I know that's the price that comes with high pressing pressure. I get that. But work on it and you'll do great," He explained.
"Alright, I can do that." Barry nodded.
"Good. But keep that in mind Barry. It's a vital part of the process to be able to battle the way I do," Ash stated.
After all of that was settled the two trainers went their separate ways.
To be continued...
