MICHAEL'S POV.
I still haven't returned the weird pen back; she's probably in the lab by now. Oh, silly me, would she even come back after I yelled at her? Use your brain, man, I scolded myself. I decided to walk around the school before class starts, but then I got bored of it. This sucks; let's head to the library.
As I wandered over to the sci-fi section, I heard a unique voice - not tiny, but somewhat babyish. It had to be her. Maybe she's struggling with some subjects, and perhaps I could help. "Hi there," I greeted her.
She immediately changed her facial expression. "Hi. Is there anything I could help you with?" she asked.
"Nothing. I just wanted to return your weird pen," I said.
"Can you be less rude, please?" she retorted.
"Rude? You didn't even say thank you," I pointed out.
"Thank you," she said, but as she turned to leave, I instinctively held her arm back. "I don't know your name; could you do the honors?" I asked.
"It's Hadizah. And please, don't ever touch or hold me again. I do not appreciate it," she said firmly before finally leaving. That's new, I thought. But what's up with the attitude? I'll have to keep that in mind.
The first lesson of the day started, and as usual, Mrs. Collins was a bit late. Jeff began with his boring jokes, and the class indulged him - why they enjoyed his jokes was beyond me. "Who's up for some joke?" he asked, and almost everyone responded positively.
"Why is Donald Trump no longer allowed in the White House?" he started.
"Why?" they all asked.
"Because it's 'forBidden,'" he delivered the punchline, followed by another joke which I didn't bother to listen to.
I knew Jeff loved daring people. "What's up, Michael?" he asked, trying to engage me.
I didn't give a reply. "Looks like what happened to you five years ago really messed up your life," he taunted.
"Repeat that one more time," I dared him.
"Oh, so now your vocals work," I retorted. "Is it because of what happened to you five years ago that made you a sadist?" I challenged him.
But this time, I wasn't going to take his crap. I took him by his collar, ready to confront him. "Talk about my past again, and you'll see me in your nightmares. What's your business with my freaking past?" I threatened, my fists clenched.
"Can someone explain the current situation or what is happening in this class?" Mrs. Collins finally intervened, breaking the tension. I released Jeff's collar, muttering under my breath as I straightened my own. "Quack comedian," I called him before sitting down.
HADIZAH'S POV.
That guy has got some serious anger issues, but not my problem, I thought, though he is so freaking hot," the girls said.
I glanced out and saw the boys' basketball team finishing up their game, including Avery. I couldn't understand why girls would stoop so low for boys' attention. They should just wait for the prince charming Allah has set aside for them. "Let's leave, Ava," I said, and we headed to our next class.
Biology class went smoothly until one boy decided to disrupt it. "Dylan, I'm pretty sure you know when to joke and when not," the teacher reprimanded him, but he persisted.
"This is your teacher practically living off the money we pay you, or am I wrong?" he challenged.
These white kids just keep baffling me. "Dylan, one week detention, out of my class," the teacher declared.
"Not like I'm going to do it," Dylan retorted, earning himself another reprimand.
"Dylan, your breath stinks and it's disgusting everybody in this class. Do you mind shutting up or buying a toothbrush?" Primrose interjected, earning laughter from the class.
"I wasn't talking to you. I think all that makeup is getting in your brain, Rosy," Dylan fired back.
"At least I have a brain. It wouldn't be so bad if you had one," she retorted, shutting him down.
"I'll get you later," Dylan threatened as he left the room.
"Miss Brown, leave it," the teacher instructed, trying to restore order.
"Okay, now you've got to tell me what's wrong," Ava insisted during lunch.
"It's nothing you have to worry yourself about," I initially deflected.
"You do know I'm going to keep pestering you until you tell me, right?" she persisted.
"Okay, fine, you win," I relented. "It's just... I'm struggling with Physics and Chemistry, and my mum hasn't gotten me a tutor yet," I admitted.
"Is that why you're worried? I could tutor you if you want. The ones I don't understand, we could give to someone else to explain better," Ava offered.
"If you could do that, it would mean so much to me," I said, feeling a weight lifting off my shoulders.
"It's fine," she reassured me.
"Thank you so much," I expressed my gratitude.
We continued talking about other things until someone interrupted us. "Can we sit here?" a voice asked.
I looked up and saw Primrose and her friends approaching. Her skirt was as short as ever, but she looked stunning. I won't lie; she looked like a goddess. "Sure, you can sit down," I welcomed them.
"You guys are new," Primrose observed.
"Yes," I confirmed.
"This is Amber, that's Kylie, and I'm Primrose. But you can call me Rose," she introduced herself.
"I'm Hadizah, and she's Ava," I replied.
"You're supposed to be Avery's sister," she pointed out.
"You've done your research," Ava noted.
"From the looks of things, Ava wasn't interested in what was happening, but she just went with the flow. 'Since we're acquainted, I think we should all be friends,' Kylie suggested.
"Good idea," I agreed.
"Friends," Ava echoed, albeit somewhat disinterested.
"Friends," the three of them chorused, and then Primrose's boyfriend arrived, covering her eyes with his hands.
"Ethan," she greeted.
"You never miss it," he said.
"I know what you smell like all the time,"she teased.
Primrose stood up, kissed him, and then left with him. "Well, I'm not surprised anymore," I thought to myself.
Walking through the school hallways, I admired the majestic architecture of our school. I hoped my time here would be as beautiful as the school itself. As the bell rang for drama class.
As we walked together, Daniel, who was beside me, introduced himself. "Hi, my name is Daniel," he said. He had a long earring worn on one ear and nail polish, giving off a unique vibe.
"I'm Hadeezah," I replied, noticing his distinctive style.
"I like you, especially your voice. Can we be friends?" he asked, his demeanor friendly yet unconventional.
"Okay, no problem," I responded, appreciating his openness.
"Thanks, darling," he said with a grin.
"No problem, it's nice to have a friend in Drama class," I replied, feeling a sense of camaraderie.
As we walked, Mrs. Davis, our drama teacher, passed by, carrying a notebook. "Sorry, I need to jot down a few things for the upcoming class," she explained, scribbling in her notebook as she walked.
With that, we continued our journey to lunch, the halls bustling with activity around us.
We got to drama class and it was like I was I a real movie, the school as the perfect auditorium and it felt surreal.
Good afternoon class, I'm Mrs Davis and I'm your drama teacher for the year, she said.
Go on and introduce yourselves, she continued.
Everyone introduced themselves and it was good actually.
We jotted a few things down as it was just the first class with her.
The bell rang and we left class.
WRITER'S NOTE :
Hey it's a double update.
When I first started this book I thought I wasn't going to use the f-word, but then I did my research and I found out it was almost impossible to not use the word in high school abroad precisely, I didn't want to use it because I personally hate it, but anyway let's continue with the book.
SALAAM {PEACE}.
