Episode 18: The Dance

Ivy’s POV

The music pulsed through the crowded party, the bass vibrating in my chest as I stood near the edge of the makeshift dance floor. The campus party was in full swing—red solo cups in hands, neon lights flashing, and sweaty bodies moving in rhythm. I had no idea why I agreed to come, but somehow, Elena had convinced me.

She stood beside me, looking effortlessly confident as always, her dark hair falling in loose waves over her shoulders. She was wearing a fitted black crop top and high-waisted jeans that made my mouth dry. Elena always looked good, but tonight, she looked dangerous.

“Are you actually going to have fun, or are you just here to sulk in the corner?” Elena teased, nudging me playfully.

“I don’t sulk,” I muttered, taking a sip of my drink.

She smirked. “Could’ve fooled me.”

I rolled my eyes, but before I could retort, Camila appeared out of nowhere, slightly tipsy and way too enthusiastic.

“There you are!” she exclaimed, grabbing my arm. “Ivy, why are you standing here like a statue? It’s a party! Live a little!”

“I am living,” I said flatly.

Camila turned to Elena, shaking her head. “How do you deal with her?”

Elena chuckled. “She’s adorable when she’s being grumpy.”

I shot Elena a look, but she just grinned.

Camila, clearly over my attitude, pointed at the dance floor. “Okay, Elena, since Ivy is being a buzzkill, you should dance with me.”

Elena tilted her head. “I would, but I already have a dance partner.”

My stomach flipped when she looked at me.

Camila gasped dramatically. “Oh my God, Ivy’s actually going to dance? Someone get this on video.”

“I hate you,” I said, glaring at her.

She blew me a kiss before disappearing into the crowd.

Elena turned to me, her warm brown eyes glinting under the flashing lights. “Dance with me.”

I hesitated, glancing around the room. People were watching. Not in an obvious way, but enough that I felt self-conscious. I wasn’t used to public attention, especially not with Elena.

“Elena…” I started, shifting uncomfortably.

She stepped closer, her fingers grazing my wrist. “No one else matters. Just me and you.”

I swallowed hard. How did she always manage to make me feel like the world shrank when she was near?

I exhaled slowly. “Fine. But if I embarrass myself, I’m never letting you live it down.”

Elena smirked. “Deal.”

Elena’s POV

I led Ivy onto the dance floor, feeling the tension in her body as she hesitated. The music had a steady rhythm, slow but sensual, and the room was dimly lit with neon strobes flashing every few seconds.

I slid my hands onto Ivy’s waist, feeling her muscles tense. “Relax,” I whispered against her ear.

She nodded, but I could tell she was still holding back. Ivy wasn’t used to being vulnerable in public, and this—dancing with me, in front of everyone—was a big step for her. I wanted her to feel comfortable, to trust that this was okay.

I moved slowly at first, guiding her into the rhythm, swaying in sync with the music. At first, she was stiff, hesitant, but I didn’t rush her. I kept my hands on her waist, grounding her, making sure she knew she wasn’t alone in this.

Then, something shifted.

Ivy let out a breath, and her grip on my shoulders tightened slightly. Her body relaxed, moving against mine as she followed my lead. A small smile played at her lips, and I could see it—the moment she let go.

“That’s it,” I murmured. “Just us.”

She looked up at me, her dark eyes searching mine. There was something raw there, something real.

“Yeah,” she whispered. “Just us.”

I couldn’t stop the grin that spread across my face.

The song changed, the beat getting a little faster, a little more intoxicating. The air between us crackled with something electric. I turned her slightly, pressing my forehead against hers as our bodies moved together.

And then, it happened.

Ivy reached up, brushing her fingers along the back of my neck, pulling me closer. The world around us faded, and I knew in that moment—she wasn’t thinking about the people watching. She wasn’t worried about what anyone would say.

She was just here. With me.

I leaned in, just enough for our noses to brush, testing the waters. Ivy’s breath hitched, her grip tightening on me. I could feel the warmth of her lips so close to mine, but I didn’t push. I let her decide.

And then, she closed the distance.

The kiss was soft at first, hesitant, but then she melted into me, her lips moving against mine in a way that sent fire through my veins. The music faded, the people disappeared—nothing else mattered but her.

When we finally pulled away, Ivy’s cheeks were flushed, her eyes slightly wide, like she couldn’t believe what she had just done.

I smiled. “See? That wasn’t so bad, was it?”

She groaned, burying her face in my shoulder. “I can’t believe I just did that here.”

I laughed, wrapping my arms around her. “You wanted to.”

She sighed, pulling back just enough to look at me. “Yeah. I did.”

Ivy glanced around, finally noticing the eyes on us. Some were smiling, some whispering, but no one looked judgmental.

Lila appeared out of nowhere, grinning. “Well, well, well. Look who decided to make things a little less private.”

Ivy groaned. “Don’t start.”

Camila, who was standing next to her, clapped dramatically. “Ladies and gentlemen, the official debut of Ivy and Elena! It only took forever.”

Ivy glared. “I hate you.”

Camila winked. “You love me.”

I rolled my eyes, but I couldn’t stop smiling. Ivy might act annoyed, but I knew the truth.

She had taken a step tonight. A big one. And I was so proud of her.

I squeezed her hand, whispering just for her, “I love you.”

Ivy’s breath caught, and for a second, I thought she might freak out. But then she smiled—really smiled—and squeezed my hand back.

“I love you too.”

And just like that, the world faded away again.
