Chapter 132 The art exhibition ended at three oâclock in the afternoon. Jadie noticed the familiar car parked outside of the international exhibition hall.
Soon after, she opened the car door and got into the passenger seat.
âZach... When did you get here? Why didnât you call me? I wouldâve come outside earlier if you had told me you were here. You wouldnât have to wait so long.â
Kevin had a copy of Jadieâs schedule, so he knew she was out of school today to see an art exhibition.
Zach had just gotten off the plane and happened to pass by, so he picked Jadie up on the way.
âItâs nothing,â said Zach.
Jadie asked, âHowâs your project going, Zach?â
âThey signed the contract,â he replied.
âCongratulations! Youâve been toiling away for the project for over a week. Now you can finally have some rest.â
The car started moving.
âJadie, your seatbelt.â
Jadie was momentarily startled. Then, she replied obediently, âOh! I forgot.â
She quickly fastened her seatbelt. In the past, Zach would have fastened her seatbelt for her. Jadie noticed how tired he looked, so she did not speak and sat there quietly.
Zach made a U-turn and saw a familiar-looking person about to cross the road. It was Madelyn. She was bent over and fixing the scarf and shirt of a man in a wheelchair. She opened the water bottle in her hand and fed him some water.
Zach watched Madelynâs actions with a sharp gaze. He pursed his lips, and his expression turned icy. The atmosphere in the car grew even more awry.
Jadie also saw Madelyn.
âThe school organized an art exhibition excursion today, and Madelyn came with her friend. But his legs... It seems like heâs disabled.â
Zach stared at Madelyn, who stood nearby and felt a sense of déjà vu. He recalled a time when Madelyn treated him this way;
gentle and considerate. At the thought of that, Zach felt suffocated.
The traffic light across the street turned green, and Madelyn wheeled the man across the road.
âI can only have lunch with you. I have training and dance class tonight...â
âAlright. Iâll get Kevin to pick you up.â
âOkay. That would be great.â
Ethanâs legs were still not fully recovered, so he could not have spicy food. Madelyn took him to a steamboat restaurant similar to a hot pot restaurant. Since she also preferred lighter foods, both of them had similar palates.
After dinner, she went to Skyrise Tower and did not leave until eight oâclock.
Madelyn walked out of the building. It was hard for her to hail a cab at this hour, so she had to walk for quite a distance. The streetlights shone down, giving the person behind her a shadow. The personâs footsteps grew closer, and Madelyn had a really bad feeling.
âIâm being... followed!â she thought.
Madelyn did not dare to turn around. Nobody was around her right now, and the cold, damp wind blew against her as she gradually walked faster and faster. She felt the person behind her also increased their pace to catch up with her.
Madelyn hid in an alley.
Then, a man wearing a face mask walked over with a murderous glint in his eyes and his hands in his pockets. Madelyn looked behind her in fear.
âGo on! Weâll see where youâre gonna run to now.â
Madelyn had her back against the wall and said fearfully, âDonât... Donât come any closer.â
The glaring high beams of a car shone into the alley in the darkness. Madelyn narrowed her and shielded them from the bright lights. She could not see the person in the car.
eyes âDonât blame us for whatâll happen today! Blame the person you crossed.â
âDonât waste your time talking to her, Perro.â
âBe a good girl and stop fighting back, or Iâll cut you.â
Madelyn gripped the wall tightly with her fingers. She stared straight at the source of the bright light without a hint of fear in her eyes.
âMaybe Iâm used to it. Maybe... Itâs because thereâs a voice telling me Zach might be the person in the car,â she thought.
Chapter 133 In the face of danger, Madelyn found herself thinking, âDid he hire these people? But why? Is he getting rid of me ahead of time... Has his revenge plan begun? At least we made it to marriage in our past life, but now... Zach has no intentions of letting me live at all.â
She thought of the incident at Portsmouth Fishing Village and wondered if he had also hired them.
âBut if he were the one who had hired them, why did he take revenge on them for me? Whoâs he putting on a show for right now?
Does he plan on personally watching me die after these people take advantage of me?
âIf this is the case, why didnât he just let me die in the ocean?! Why did he save me? Zach Jardin, what the hell did Hayson Jent do to you? Why are you directing all your hate for him on me? I didnât do anything!â
The men started tearing at Madelynâs clothes, and her white fur coat got taken off. Her strength was no match for the men.
âTsk! Weâre watching an explicit live action. Donât you feel a thing, Zach?â
Kai looked at Zachâs lower body and smirked suggestively.
âWhat a shame... This little girl is going to turn into a woman after tonight!â
He continued, âBut you made the right move. If Madelyn marries the Arnold family, itâll only hinder our plan. Madelyn Jent... Youâll find a woman like her in the future. Thereâs no need to feel bad.â
Zachâs eyes glinted in the darkness. However, things did not turn out the way they expected.
Madelyn forcefully shoved the men away. Just as one of the men took out a dagger to threaten her, she blocked it with her arm.
The dagger fell onto the ground, leaving a cut on her arm. Madelyn held her bleeding arm and ran away into the darkness. The two men ran after her. Shortly after, they received a phone call.
âNo need to chase after her.â
Madelyn did not know how long she had been running. When she turned around in fear, nobody was chasing after her.
She accidentally tripped and fell onto the road.
Her hands were bloody as the blood seeped through her fingers from the gash on her arm. She was in so much pain she felt numb. She trembled and struggled to stand up from the ground, but her legs were completely weak.
Then, the phone in her pocket rang. Madelyn fished out her phone and stared at the caller ID.
Her hands trembled, and she dropped her phone. She hesitated and did not dare to take the call.
However, the person called over and over again. Madelyn finally answered the call, but she did not speak.
She thought to herself, âMaybe heâs looking at me from somewhere and laughing at the state Iâm in â
Zachâs deep, emotionless voice sounded from the other end of the line, âDoes it hurt?â
Madelyn felt her heart break hearing his voice.
âIt really is him! she thought.
She looked at the deserted streets as tears streamed down her face âWhy?â
She silently asked, âWhy are you doing this, Zach?
