That was the longest night spent by the family members. All of them were lost in their own theories about the current situation, making their own reasonings but Leher was suffering because of the news of her husband.
Meera and Jharna stayed with Leher for the rest of the night and helped her pack a bag for her and Abhi while Prem packed their bags alone in his room, still overthinking about the situation. Rahul spent the night at the hospital with Abhi.
"Leher, don't worry. He'll be fine for sure," Meera tried assuring her but at this point nothing could keep her calm.
Though they are getting divorced, he's still her husband who she loves to the end of the world. She doesn't know what happened to him, what kind of injury he has or if he's okay?
All these thoughts were eating Leher up while Meera and Jharna tried their best to make her feel better.
The lights turned off in the Mukherjee Villa, with each room filled with their own worries and fears.
~~~~~
"Jharna, quick! We have to leave," Meera called out for her from the living room. They were leaving to go to the hospital and then from there they'd go to their village.
As soon as Jharna came down with her luggage, they all exited the house with hopeful thoughts and a positive mind, except for one person.
They got divided into two cars and started to go to their destination. Prem, Meera and Jharna in one car and Maa, Papa and Leher in another.
Though Meera was scared that Leher might overthink and blabber something in front of her in-laws, she knew that Leher had to talk to them.
"Maa," Leher looked up from her kurti and called her but only got a hum as a response. "I'm sorry," she quickly looked down to not tear up in front of her mother-in-law.
"Leher? Why are you sorry? What did you do?" She asked, concern written all over her face.
"Maa, Abhi's accident, our divorce and everything. I'm sorry," she let out a low sob while still not being able to look in Maa in her eyes.
"Leher, look at me," she held Leher's cheeks and make her look up.
"You and abhi are my children. I won't show partiality between you guys. He got into an accident because of his carelessness, not because of you and about the divorce, I'm sure you guys have your own reasons and will figure it out," she let out the last words with a sad smile while trying to calm Leher down.
Leher nodded her head as an understanding and finally putting her mind to rest. The heavy weight on her heart slightly weighed less now.
Rekha could understand Leher's tension but she didn't know she'd blame herself for it. Though Abhi is her own son, she never showed any difference between both of them.
Leher slowly drifted off to sleep because of not being able to rest for several hours.
In the other car Prem was fuming with anger while both the women couldn't help him in any manner.
"Abhi couldn't have spoken to us? Are we invisible to him or are we not close enough?" He hit the steering wheel in frustration while Meera let out a loud sigh for the hundredth time.
"Premji, you have to stop," she rubbed the back of his neck to calm him down but it couldn't help him apparently.
"Meera, an accident is not a joke! How could he be so careless?" Meera nodded understandingly and closed her eyes to relax herself.
Jharna was sitting at the back of the car, not understanding what to say in between. Her thoughts were empty as she had no other information about Abhi's condition.
~~~~~
After a two hour drive to the outskirts of the city, they finally reached the hospital.
Leher immediately opened the car door and rushed into the hospital building. She ran to the reception and gave the receptionist her husband's information.
"Abhinav Mukherjee, he got into an accident last night. Do you know which room he's in?" She asked in a hurry while the receptionist nodded her head.
"5th floor, 3rd room to the right," she checked the information on the computer and replied.
Leher didn't wait for any of the family members to catch up and got into the lift in a moment.
The elevator reached the fifth floor in 10 seconds with Leher not keeping her calm for the rest of the time.
She ran to the 3rd room to the right and opened the door in a swing.
She eyed the whole room but couldn't find the person she came for.
"Where's Abhi?" She asked Rahul who was sitting on the sofa.
"Oh umm, good morning to you too, bhabhi," he chuckled but her serious expression shut him off.
"Where is my husband?" Her eyes showcased an emotion no one could understand.
"He's in the washroom. He'll be out in a minute, I guess," he got startled because of her expression and let out a nervous chuckle.
Soon the others caught up and reached the room. "So how's Abhi?" Prem asked looking for him but he was nowhere in the room.
"Washroom," Leher let out a frustrated sigh.
Prem understood the situation and said, "So, we all didn't eat breakfast. Wanna have breakfast, guys?" He nodded his head aggressively to convince the others.
Everyone let out a nervous 'okay' and left the room in a hurry. It was only Leher in the room now.
Tired walking around the room, she let herself sit on the bed.
Why is he in the washroom for so long? Did he pass out? Did he faint? Did he-
Her thoughts came to an end when the washroom door opened. Her eyes quickly turned to the door and there she saw him.
"Leher-" before he could complete his words she swung her arms around his neck.
"You idiot," she whispered to him and shut her eyes to feel him safe with her.
She detached herself from him and inspected him while running her hands over his body to check for any injuries.
"Hi," he let out a soft voice and smiled at her.
"Hi, my foot!" She said out loud and distanced herself from him a little. "Do you know how worried I was? Do you understand how worried everyone was? It was so hard for all of us but you didn't even care to tell us? A call would've been fine Abhi! And on top of that you're not even injured!" She let all of her frustration out with hot tears rolling out of her face.
"No, no, listen," Abhi started explaining, "I was driving the car and suddenly someone came on their bike from the wrong direction and hit the car," he told her about the incident that caused him to end up in the hospital.
"That man was injured because of his own fault but started blaming me for it and I had to get him admitted in this hospital," he sighed at his position while Leher couldn't get words out of her mouth.
"And if makes you feel any better, I twisted my ankle pretty badly and got a small cut on my head because of hitting my head on the steering wheel," he chuckled and pointed at his right ankle and his forehead.
"Yeah, got it," she said while wiping her tears away from her face.
"I'm sorry for worrying you," he came a little closer to her.
"Not the first time," she replied in a low voice and stepped back from him.
Abhi sighed at her behaviour not understanding what to do.
"You know...two seconds before the accident, as my body thought I was going to die, I pressed the breaks of the car really hard causing me to bump my head into the steering wheel and the first thing that came into my mind was you,"
He held her hands in his and rubbed the pad of his thumb at the back her palm.
"My mind was filled with you and only you, Leher. I wanted to solve everything with you and fix all our problems. I want to give our marriage a chance, Leher. Please let me be your husband. Please give me a chance. Let me understand you." His eyes filled with tears and pulled her closer to him.
"Please say yes, please," tears rolled down his cheeks as he let out those words.
"Abhi," she let out a loud sob and rested her head on his chest.
"I can't, I really can't," she cried out loud and wet his shirt with her tears.
"No, no, no. Why? Why can't you-" Panic evident in his voice, he held her closer to his chest.
"I signed the divorce papers, Abhi."
