It was already dawn, when Joseph was about to fall into a deep sleep, her rumbling had woken him up completely. He frowned for a few seconds and sat up.
After regaining his composure, he spoke in disgust, âWhy are you shouting? Look, we still have our clothes on.â
Hayden was startled and stared at him for quite a while. Seeing him in his pajamas and realizing she was wearing them too, her face flushed.
Joseph gave her a sideways glance and said, âA hotel maid changed your clothes. As for why Iâm sleeping next to you, you should ask yourself. I couldnât just sit there while you held me down and talked in your sleep all night, could I?â
Haydenâs face grew redder and he wanted to bury himself right then and there. That man seemed to have a mind reader that was able to tell what you were thinking with just a look.
âSo, why am I here?â He dared to ask. The structure of the room was more or less similar to the one she had been in before, but it was easy to tell that it wasnât the room she had been in before, since there was no security camera.
Joseph climbed down from the bed. He poured her a cup of tea, handed it to her and asked, âYou knew youâd get seasick, but you still insisted on making the trip. Did you really do it for Noah, or is it becauseâ¦â.
âWhy?â Hayden was puzzled.
Joseph looked deeply at her and said, âYou planned for this to happen.â
Haydenâs expression changed and he raised his eyebrows. âWhat were you saying, am I that shameless? Did you think Iâd bumped into you on purpose? Do you think every woman on this planet likes you?â She replied aggressively and quickly, as if she had suffered a great humiliation.
âWhat if I told you that I hope you planned it that way?â His words suddenly extinguished her fire of rage and she was completely dumbfounded.
âAre you, are you kidding me? Thatâs not funny at all.â Her face froze, she avoided his gaze and gulped down the entire glass of water.
âYou think Iâm a person who likes to joke around?â
Hayden nearly choked on the water. His face flushed as he suppressed the urge to cough. âI donât know what you mean.â She opted to play dumb to avoid feeling embarrassed, since he might not really mean it.
Joseph frowned and said, âThink.â
âExcuse me?â Surprised, she looked up in response. The moment she did, however, a dark shadow fell right over her face and her moist lips were covered by something warm. She could feel the soft sensation as it bit her lips, which became more and more aggressive as she gasped.
Her mind exploded all at once and she couldnât think at all. The kiss continued for a long time and she was almost choking when Joseph finally released her. She clutched at the sheet and snorted loudly without even having the strength to criticize him.
âDo you understand now?â Joseph stood up straight. His imposing shadow was still making it difficult for her to breathe. His deep, slightly raspy voice made her heart continue to race.
Hayden continued to lower his head and merely questioned him as he gritted his teeth after a while, âIf I tell you I still donât understand, will you think Iâm proud and foolish?â
Joseph was startled to see the disgust in her eyes when she looked up.
âIf there is any inappropriate behavior on my part back then that would make you misunderstand that I am this kind of woman, I will apologize. I hope that what just happened will not happen again in the future, and I donât want to repeat it a second time.â
After finishing, she got up and headed for the bedroom door.
Joseph grabbed her arm from behind and said, âMake it clear to me, why youâ¦â.
THE distinct sound of a slap echoed in the room. Hayden pulled his arm away, his eyes brimming with humiliation and aggravation. She rumbled, âIâm not shameless enough to become the other woman.â
Saying this, she slammed the door shut and left. The sound of the door closing echoed in the room for a long while, and the whole room seemed to shake as well. Joseph touched his slapped cheek.
The shock in his eyes gradually disappeared. He was not furious, but felt slightly aggrieved.
The first ray of sunlight emerged from the sea horizon and illuminated the darkened room. After waiting several seconds for the call to be answered, Josephâs voice was heard. âMagnus, you can stop planning the wedding now.â
ââ¦â.
âYes, the marriage is off. Tell Violet.â
ââ¦â.
After hanging up, Joseph walked to the French window and opened it. The sea breeze instantly blew toward him. After passing through the downpour that had lasted all night, the air outside was especially cool.
That woman had made her move before even asking his opinion, did she really think he was that kind of man who enjoyed having several romantic relationships?
Meanwhile, Hayden had returned to his room full of annoyance. He lay on the bed and didnât look up at any point. The feeling of embarrassment and annoyance made her extremely uncomfortable. She had no idea what Joseph was trying to do, did he really think she was that kind of woman? How awful.
Freddie returned safely with Stella at noon. Stella was ignorant and unafraid. She went back to the room and told Hayden of the horrible scenes she had witnessed the day before in dramatic fashion, âMommy, the wind where Freddie and I stayed was so strong! It almost blew the roof off. There were even fish falling from the sky when itâs raining, how unbelievable.â
Looking worried, Hayden grabbed Stellaâs hand and said, âItâs Momâs fault, I should have gone with you.â
âLuckily you didnât. Having to take care of little Stella on the island, I was worried I wouldnât be able to face you if anything happened to her.â Freddie said with fear and a pale look on his face. âIf you had come with us too, I would have been worried about two people. Actually, Iâm worried about my ability to take good care of us during that dangerous situation.â
Fortunately, it was in the past.
Hayden hugged Stella. Stella didnât understand that she had just survived a disaster, she kept saying she was hungry and wanted to eat. Hayden could only order and without worrying about the cameramen following them, they went downstairs to eat.
After ordering, Stellaâs black eyes widened and she exclaimed as she saw two familiar shadows enter the restaurant and head towards them. âMr. Beckham! Noah!â.
Hearing his call, Haydenâs expression froze and he looked up unconsciously.
Joseph and Noah arrived as expected. âMom, itâs Mr. Beckham and Noah!â
Stella was so excited as if she had just made a new discovery, she grabbed Haydenâs arm with one hand and greeted both Joseph and Noah with the other. âCome here, Mr. Beckham.â
Freddie, who stood next to him, frowned and muttered discontentedly, âWhy is he here? I always see him wherever I go.â
