Joseph looked up. âIs something wrong?â
âSince you think only certificates can prove oneâs ability, letâs bet.â Hayden smiled and glared at him with all his provocative intent, âDare you take it?â
Kevin Jackman, who was almost numb from the boring interviews, suddenly became energetic. He was astonished as it was the first time he had seen someone dare to bet with Joseph, and even with such a cavalier attitude. âWhat do you want to bet? Pretty lady.â
With an incredulous look, Joseph turned and shot a glare at Kevin.
Hayden took a deep breath and stared into the manâs deep eyes. He said with firm determination. âI will work at the ST Group hotel for three months, and I guarantee you that the monthly profit will exceed thirty percent. If I make it, I want the company to hire me as a formal worker and give me triple the salary, plusâ¦â She paused and finished the sentence with extreme clarity: âYou have to apologize to me!â.
Her words caused a shock. He had only been working at the Mileder Hotel for a year and, during his employment, the monthly profit he helped the hotel make was only less than ten percent How could he dare to make a promise that seemed unrealistic?
Joseph closed the folder and tossed it aside. He stood up, leaned with both hands on the table and hunched slightly. âWhat if you canât?â
Haydenâs smile grew bigger and he had no hesitation. âIf I canât, Iâll work for the ST Group for free for three years and Iâll always be at your beck and call. How about it, are you willing to take the bet?â
âOf course!â Kevin interjected. âJo, if you donât accept it, youâre a coward!â. He shut his mouth as Joseph shot him a cold glare.
âGo back and wait for the job notification.â After saying that quietly, Joseph stood up and walked off the stage. His slender legs stopped as he walked past Hayden.
He turned sideways and his eyes fell on the womanâs chin and nose. She had a pleasant but not overpowering perfume scent. Interesting. At least she was more interesting than those women. âAs for the bet, Iâll take it.â
After saying that, she walked and left.
âJo, where are we going to eat?â. Seeing him leave, Kevin hurried after him. Before he left, he turned around and winked at Hayden. He said with a smile, âYouâre funny, beautiful. I hope you win the bet.â
Hayden was speechless, but he had passed the test nonetheless And having chances would always be better than facing a dead end!
â¦
It was already noon by the time Hayden finished his interview and returned home with an exhausted body. âWelcome home, Mommy!â. Stella welcomed him back by giving him a big hug, âIâve memorized the whole alphabet and cooked the rice in the rice cooker Now Iâm waiting for Mommy to cook the other dishes!â.
âGood job, sweetie!â Hayden deposited a kiss on the little girlâs cheek. After washing their hands and cooking, mother and daughter ate lunch together.
When she woke up, she was startled for quite a while when the doctor told her she still had a daughter. The child was cute and cuddly, she was reluctant to give her to whoever had hired her, so she asked her friend to help her buy a plane ticket and left for abroad with the little girl in a hurry. She had even broken off her relationship with the Downey Family for her.
Although it was hard to raise a child in a foreign country, her weariness disappeared every time she saw Stellaâs sweet smile. Not to mention that his daughter was exceptionally smart and spoke English fluently. She had started brushing her teeth and dressing herself at the age of three, and had helped her with household chores as she grew up. He didnât have to worry about her at all, even if she was away from home.
