Josephâs face slowly changed.
The field was wide open, so Tedâs last two words still echoed, but those bodyguards looked professional and didnât even change their expressions.
After hearing Tedâs words, Rebekah looked heartbroken and yelled at Ted with the last of her remaining strength, âYou asshole. How dare you tell these kinds of lies.â
But Ted merely scoffed and glared at Joseph, âYour mother was supposed to marry me thirty years ago, but she lied to me by telling me she was the Beckhamâs daughter. I was only adopted and, frankly, I was your dead fatherâs child bride. I wasted a whole year in wooing herâ¦then your mother got pregnant, that Henry came and beat me up. But, still, he married your mother and I left. He really did a wonderful job raising my son.â
Ted was really proud at this point.
âHave you said enough?â
Joseph had regained his calm look and looked like he didnât believe Tedâs words at all.
âYou were supposed to give me these ingots, thank you my youâre alive.â Ted glared at him, he looked smug, âYou couldnât inherit the Beckham fortune if I hadnât given up on you.â
Joseph scoffed, âThen this 400 bars seems very little in comparison. It would be only fair for you to keep half of my fortune.â
âIt would be great if you really thought thatâ¦â. Ted even had the audacity to respond.
Standing next to Rebekah, Hayden held her cold hands as he thought about why this scum was still living in this world.
Josephâs back stood firm as a mountain, his words echoing clearly across the open field, âIâm afraid you wouldnât have a life to enjoy.â
Then, two black figures suddenly appeared behind the Porsche and began to fight with those three thugs. One of them hit Ted directly in the face.
Suddenly Ted pulled the trigger, but Andrea dodged it and twisted his wrist.
Ted shrieked in pain, but then he was stomped to the ground by Andrea and couldnât even move.
Holding an unconscious Benjamin in her arms, Andrea was furious and kicked Tedâs face. âHow dare you mess with my man, Iâll kill you right now.â
âOkay, Andrea.â One of the burly men standing next to Joseph approached and said seriously, âLock him up quick and letâs go back to the police station. You know youâre forbidden to abuse him, donât you? You want me to punish you?â
Andrea frowned and reluctantly withdrew her feet.
Waving her hand, two of the special soldiers disguised as bodyguards approached, handcuffed Ted, and then escorted him to the sedan.
What happened was actually Josephâs trick.
Hayden only found out about this after she was saved.
Joseph didnât plan to let Ted leave, because once they boarded the ship at the port, he would smuggle himself somewhere else. Then they would have no right to arrest him.
Joseph then thought of this trick. He gave Ted the ingots which would force these thugs to leave because of their greedy nature and then they would have to get rid of either Hayden or Benjamin. Ted thought Benjamin was more valuable, so he ditched that âwaitressâ.
Then Joseph asked the special soldiers to disguise themselves as his bodyguards. Ted had been hiding in the dark for years and clearly knew that the police wouldnât kill the kidnappers unless the situation was really urgent, so he was naturally afraid that Joseph didnât care about Benjaminâs life and would just kill him.
But Josephâs identity surprisingly distracted him and gave Andrea the opportunity to attack him.
Benjamin was taken to the ambulance by the staff and Andrea followed them.
Everyone involved in this kidnapping had to do a search at the police station. Joseph turned away after a while, he just looked at Hayden and Rebekah ten feet away.
Rebekah looked at him complicatedly and wanted to say something. But she ended up muttering, âJoseph, donât believe him. Heâs nothing but a lunatic.â
âRight.â Joseph looked indifferent and leaned closer, âWhy should I believe him?â
But Rebekahâs face looked more pained. Of course she knew what her son was thinking.
Walking past her, Joseph said coldly, âHayden, letâs go.â
It seemed that nothing had happened and that he had never helped her.
But Hayden suddenly shouted, âRebekah, are you all right?â
Joseph stopped and saw that Rebekah was passed out in Haydenâs arms. His face immediately changed and he ran to them.
Three days later, there were a lot of people in the inpatient area of S City Hospital.
Hayden was at Rebekahâs bedside and peeling apples for her. âRebekah, the doctor said you had been having violent mood swings and hadnât been sleeping well for a long time. So your blood pressure is not stable, but you may be discharged after a few days of observation.â
Rebekah was unconscious for two days. The doctor said it wasnât serious, she was just too tired.
She hadnât eaten anything in two days and he had to keep her hydrated through an IV.
âIâm fine, I can leave the hospital now.â Rebekah still looked a little weak and some of her hair had turned gray overnight. She looked at Hayden with gratitude, but with much more distress.
Hayden was so perfect and could measure up to her son. It was a shame she couldnât do anything for them.
âNo.â Hayden handed her an apple, âI called Joseph and he said heâll come see you when heâs not busy.â
At his words, Rebekahâs face immediately changed and she wanted to get out of bed.
âWhat are you doing, Rebekah?â. Hayden immediately stopped her while still holding a fruit knife, âBe careful.â
Rebekah looked rushed. âHayden, let me go, he wonât want to see me. I donât have the face to meet him.â
âRebekah, you need to calm down. Sit down for a moment.â
âNo.â
As they struggled, the door to the room suddenly opened and a tall figure appeared in the doorway. His voice was cold as always, but this time it sounded a bit matter-of-fact, âWhat are you doing?â
