âJoseph.â Hayden pronounced his name unconsciously.
To his surprise, Ted clearly heard his words and immediately choked, âWho is she?â.
âIf you dare to strangle her again, you wonât get a penny.â Josephâs face darkened and his eyes looked fierce.
The trunk slowly opened on his back. There were 400 ingots in that aluminum suitcase.
Ted was puzzled. âIs it $20 million?â
âThirty million dollars.â Joseph said a figure casually, âYou can have this money right away if you let her and that boy go.â
âYouâre in no position to haggle here.â Ted then grimaced, âTell the police to back off. Put the car key here, naturally Iâll let them leave when I get to the harbor.â
Joseph frowned and looked at Andrea.
The kidnappers always had the upper hand in these kinds of negotiations.
Andrea gestured and those special soldiers with blast shields slowly backed away, leaving Josephâs Porsche in the middle.
Clutching Haydenâs shoulder, Ted held a knife in his other hand. The three thugs behind him were dragging Benjamin. They all moved toward the Porsche cautiously.
Hayden can sense that Ted was nervous and can even see the sweat dotted on his face out of the corner of his eye. There was no way this greedy man was willing to leave them.
Then he said in a low voice. âLet Benjamin go. He had fainted and will only be a burden to you. Iâll go with you.â
âWho the hell are you?â Ted laughed, âYou donât think I know this kid is the valuable one here?â
âIâ¦â
Hayden furrowed her eyebrows and was about to say something, but then she realized Andrea was approaching her, realized what she was doing and just shut up.
They had already headed for the trunk.
Looking at all the bullion in the trunk, these thugs looked greedy, but they also knew that if they didnât get out of this place soon, they wouldnât be able to enjoy all the money.
Ted ordered, âTake these two suitcases to the front seat, weâll board the ship directly after we get to port.â
The yellow-headed thug hurried to close the suitcase. But after trying to lift them, he looked worried.â
âBoss, theyâre too heavy. We need at least two people to carry them.â
Those 400 ingots weighed about 400 kilos each, one person alone wouldnât be able to lift them.
Ted frowned and loosened his grip on Haydenâs shoulder. âThat kidâs passed out and heâs easy to control. Take him to the car and get rid of this woman.â
Hayden realized why Andrea was winking at him.
Joseph had already guessed that it was inconvenient to carry two suitcases of bullion and the five of them wouldnât be able to fit in the car, so Hayden would definitely be dumped as long as Ted didnât discover her identity.
Hayden froze on the spot and canât even move his legs after they left.
It would be a lie if she said she wasnât nervous. No one could really be calm if their life was at stake.
Joseph ran forward and hugged her, âItâs okay now.â
His voice was shaking and not calm like before.
Hayden didnât come to after a while. Clinging to Josephâs chest, she said worriedly, âWhat will happen to Benjamin now?â
Josephâs eyes darkened, âThey wonât escape.â
On an abandoned road near the highway, there was a white Porsche speeding by.
Sitting in the passenger seat, Ted tried to stay calm and called out to someone, âYeah, meet us at the port in about twenty minutes. Weâre almost there.â
Just after hanging up the phone, the yellow-headed thug said anxiously, âBoss, weâre out of gas.âã
The fuel gauge was low now and the carâs speed was obviously slowing down.
The car came to a complete stop in the middle of the road after a few minutes.
Ted was furious and kicked the door violently. âShit, theyâre messing with me.â
Several black sedans had already chased them. A dozen burly men jumped out of the car and surrounded Tedâs car wielding guns.
âStay back.â
Ted got out of the car and pulled Benjamin out of the back seat. As he strangled his throat with one of his hands, he pointed a gun at Benjaminâs temple.
âIâll shoot him right away if you dare come near.â
âI donât think you really will.â
Josephâs voice was incredibly clear in the middle of nowhere. Coming out from among those muscular men, he was wearing a tight-fitting coat, looking tall and strong.
âIâll kill him right away.â
âGo ahead.â Upright, Joseph was nonchalant, âIâve already saved who I wanted to save. Iâm not a cop, so I donât care who you want to kill.â
âWho do you want to save?â Tedâs expression changed, âWho is that woman?â.
Joseph smiled, âSheâs my fiancée.â
Hearing her reply, Ted suddenly remembered that woman shouting âJosephâ when he appeared.
Sizing Joseph up for a while, Ted suddenly let out a laugh. âAre you Joseph Beckham?â
Joseph replied coldly, âYou should know my way of dealing with things if you know who I am. I donât care in the least if I can save this boy. But if he dies, my fiancée would be heartbroken and youâd be really dead.â
Ted suddenly relaxed and chuckled, âYouâre really in love, huh?â
Staring at Joseph as if he wanted to find something on his face, Ted suddenly said, âJoseph, you really should let me go or youâll fall from grace. Do you even know who I am?â
Joseph frowned imperceptibly and did not respond.
At that moment, Rebekah hurriedly got out of a car, but was dragged away by one of the bodyguards. Unable to approach them, she struggled and shouted at Josephâs back, âJoseph, donât listen to him. Heâs a psycho.â
Seeing that Rebekah was here, Ted suddenly let out a strange and terrifying smile. Then he said, âJoseph, youâre going to love this secret, Iâm your biological father.â
