The night came quietly, and the dim light in the room brought Rebekah back to the past.

She picked up the album and pointed to the first black and white photo.

There stood a man and a woman together. A little boy was next to the man and a little girl was in the woman’s arms.

“My parents abandoned me when I was born and Joseph’s grandparents found me in a temple where they had gone on a trip. After seeing me they took me back to them, so I became their daughter and Henry’s sister. Henry was a year older than me.”

Old Mr. Beckham was young at the time. He loved his wife, but they found it difficult to have another baby, especially since his wife was older than he was. They made a great effort to have a child, so they went to the temple to get good fortune. But there they found a baby girl and brought her to him as if she were their own daughter.

“I didn’t know I was adopted until I was seventeen. No one had told me before.”

Looking at the photos of Henry and Rebekah, Hayden was shocked.

“It’s hard to believe she’s adopted. After all, you do look like Henry.”

Rebekah’s face softened as she looked at the photo. She touched the photo with her pale fingers, as if to get in touch with the past.

Maybe because they grew up together, Rebekah and Henry looked so much alike. Many people even thought they were twins.

Old Mr. Beckham and his wife also thought the girl was a gift of fate, so they never explained her past to him. Rebekah didn’t know her true identity until she was seventeen.

She was spoiled by everyone in the family, so she was unprepared to fight the malicious world. She was even happy when she fell in love with a man at her college.

Her parents loved her, her brother took good care of her, and her lover often made surprises for her.

Henry drove Rebekah away from the college and on the way home told her what he knew about Ted. He was a liar. He wasn’t even a student at this college, he was just going to flirt with the girls at the college.

Ted cheated on Rebekah, because he knew her identity in the Beckham Family and focused on lying to her.

“Henry had just returned from overseas, so the information he had gotten came to me too late. I was wrong before he could warn me.”

On the way home, Henry hatched two plans to settle the matter.

The first plan was to abort. Henry would help Rebekah hide it from her parents and kill the bastard, and she could live outside until she recovered.

“I was reluctant to do that, I even thought Ted wasn’t as bad as my brother said. Maybe Ted was a bastard before, but what if he really loved me? Henry had no way to persuade me, so he came up with another plan. If Ted passed a test, Henry would change his mind and help us convince our parents.”

Henry’s test was to tell Ted that Rebekah was adopted and would receive no money from the family in the future. However, she could receive help from the family, so Ted should continue to take good care of Rebekah.

“The test was helpful.” When talking about this, Rebekah showed a bitter smile, and her tone became ironic: “I thought Ted would get through it, I thought I was what he loved the most. I waited for him to see my parents. However, he disappeared after three months.”

Three months later, Ted managed to get in with another rich girl and they went abroad together.

Henry took her back home and knelt down in front of her parents. He told them he was marrying Rebekah. Her parents were dumbfounded – how could their son and daughter marry?

Rebekah’s voice was fading. Like the old movie dubbing, her voice was covered in dust: “Henry said I had his baby in my belly and he had loved me for years.”

Old Mr. Beckham had been a soldier before. And he went into the family business after he retired, but he still had the strict temperament of a soldier. So he could not accept Henry’s entreaties, got angry and lashed Henry with a whip.

Henry was injured and remained in bed for a month. Then they were hastily married.

“To get me away from those rumors, Henry told the others that we would travel all over the world. He took me overseas for a year and a half and then we came back with the baby.”

Hayden clenched his fists and was afraid to hear more.
