âDonât worry, you can trust me. Franklin wonât make it after his drug dealing is reported.â Benjaminâs voice sounded confident from the phone.
Joseph nodded as he thought, âTake care of yourself.â
âIâm fine, arenât you forgetting that Iâm accompanied by the strongest and bravest soldiers? I believe we will be able to carry out our plan successfully.â
After hanging up the phone, Joseph looked with a cold expression at the pile of materials on the desk.
Those materials recorded Franklinâs tons of misdeeds over the past few years, including when he didnât hold a high position in the ST Group.
âMaster.â A servant knocked on the door, âMiss Downey has arrived with her family and they are talking to Mr. Beckham. Would you like to have dinner now or later?â
Joseph nodded, âNow, please.â
He then left the kitchen and walked to the front yard. At the door, he could hear the conversation.
âBefore being raised by the Downey Family, Hayden spent her childhood in our family, whom we actually treated as our own daughter.â That was Haydenâs uncle Nathan talking.
Hayden had not had a future plan until Joseph had an honest and frank conversation with her. So, she agreed to Josephâs grandfatherâs request for family members to come and meet the Beckhams.
The dinner was held at the Beckham home, as Nathanâs identity did not allow him to appear much in public, which Harrison consented to.
Find your imagination at galn ovels ; con Josephâs grandfather said emphatically, âI see you both almost share the same experiences. Joseph was raised by me because his parents were too busy, so naturally he became withdrawn and quiet. I remember he has never liked a girl, except Hayden, I can tell he really loves her. I like her too, so it would be great if they got married.â
Hayden was sitting quietly next to his aunt. She didnât need to say much and all she had to do was be the audience for the grown-ups.
Apparently, his aunt was not pleased with the Beckham Family, she kept a poker face and seemed to disregard the enthusiastic elder since he entered the house.
When he became uneasy, Hayden noticed Joseph standing in the doorway and promptly got up.
âJoseph.â
Now the conversation was interrupted and everyoneâs attention turned to Joseph.
âOh, youâre here.â Mr. Beckham beckoned to him, âCome on. Why are you so late? Weâve been waiting for you for a long time.â
Keeping quiet, Joseph chose the position next to Mr. Beckham, where he could look at Hayden. Between them was a long tea table.
Noticing Haydenâs hint, winking at him, he frowned, âWhy not call the children now that dinner is being prepared in the kitchen?â
It was the longest sentence he could say because he wasnât good at livening things up.
However, Haydenâs aunt turned a cold expression on him, âLet them take s Joseph didnât trust it.
The atmosphere there seemed to vibrate with tension.
Hayden suddenly said, âMy dear Aunt, both Stella and Noah are not naughty.â
âOh, no.â Her aunt looked at her seriously, âIt is said that only children who are naughty and energetic in childhood grow up to be intelligent. I remember at my house they were so energetic, but how could they have become so quiet here? Oh I guess they must be full of rules for my lovely children to be reserved.â
Hearing this, Mr. Beckham was disgusted, âBut I have to say people need rules, Joseph obeyed family rules when he was a child. Now his children who are about six years old must be polite.â
âWell Iâm afraid you are wrong, my dear Mr. Beckham.â Haydenâs aunt looked him in the eye confidently, âAs you know, Noah has also been brought up by you and now seems too quiet. But Stella has been educated abroad, so I think your theory of upbringing cannot apply to her. I think she needs to come back to our house, to spend some leisure time.â
It is obvious that she, who was trying to be polite before, but now intended to agitate Josephâs grandfather.
But she failed. Although his countenance changed into an expression of annoyance, Mr. Beckham did not respond to her provocation.
At that moment, a servant from the kitchen came to inform them that dinner was ready, which relieved the tension of their conversation.
Before the meal, Hayden took his aunt aside: âMy dear aunt, what are you doing? We all feel ashamed, tell me why did you want to take Stella away from this family?â.
âYouâre too young, darling.â Her aunt pointed to her forehead, âBefore you get married, itâs better to keep your distance from your family. Besides, in this day and age, even if you are best suited to take care of Stella and not consider her spoiled. If youâre too busy, I can take responsibility for you.â
Hayden was amused, âSo youâre afraid her family will look down on me because of Stella?â
âNo, how dare you? Joseph is also the father of a child.â
Hayden understood that everything her aunt did was for her, so she felt grateful. Then she leaned affectionately on her auntâs shoulder.
âSo you see, everything is equal between Joseph and me. I hope you wonât be choosy with them.â
âOh, you really are a member of the Beckhams now, arenât you.â His aunt lightly pinched his cheek and said, âIf Iâm not so fussy, your mother wonât be happy to see you bullied by them.â
Hearing this, Hayden looked up at the starry sky.
âNo, they wouldnât do that to me, Iâm sure sheâs satisfied with my decision.â
She and Joseph had suffered a lot over the past few years, so it seemed like a miracle to get married after his departure six years earlier.
She had also planned to tell Joseph everything.
At dinner, her aunt seemed kinder thanks to Haydenâs persuasion. Or perhaps the happiness of the two children affected her as much as the other diners.
After dinner, Stella, who was playing and scampering around the table, suddenly asked after overhearing their conversation.
âIs my mother going to marry Joseph?â.
Haydenâs aunt looked at Stella sweetly and replied in a kindly tone, âYes. Are you happy about that?â
âNot bad.â Stella slid Joseph a purposely sidelong glance, âMy mother is so charming that many gentlemen are infatuated with her. If Joseph wants to marry her, he must perform quite well.â
Joseph asked Noah for help by throwing him a glance, hoping Noah would come up with a solution for him.
Noah understood what Joseph meant, so he took Haydenâs hand seriously, âHeâs right. Mom, you should consider it cautiously.â
Joseph felt uncomfortable and sad as if he had an ungrateful son.
