As he said that, the doctor handed him a white handkerchief. âItâs clean, I havenât used it.â
Taking the handkerchief, Hayden said thank you and wiped his face. Then he explained, âNo, Iâm just volunteering.â
âBut youâre pretty good at this. Are you a medical student orâ¦?â.
Hayden looked quite young, she was wearing a pink gown and a ponytail, so she looked like a student.
At her words, Hayden shook his head and shook his head and denied, âIâm not a medical student.â
âI donât think so.â The doctorâs eyes lit up, âYou must be a medical student. Judging by the way you assessed the patientâs traumatic state, Iâm one hundred percent sure youâre a medical student. What hospital are you in? Weâre all saving lives here.â
âIâm really not.â Hayden became distressed. âBy now all the injured from the accident should be here, I should be going now.â
Suddenly, the doctor got out of the car and asked Hayden, âCan I have your phone number?â
Before Hayden could answer his question, the doctor heard a deep voice, âHayden, Iâve been looking all over for you, letâs go home.â
The doctor stopped and saw an attractive figure who was taller than him.
He even felt intimidated by Joseph.
The doctor got angry and walked away.
Standing next to the ambulance, Hayden suddenly became nervous the moment she saw Joseph.
She really hadnât expected Joseph to be here.
âWhat are you doing here?â
Joseph walked toward her, but didnât explain much, âLetâs go home so you can change your clothes. We can talk about this after dinner.â
Looking at the blood stains on her clothes, Hayden nodded.
Neither of them mentioned the fight at the hotel this morning and they remained silent in the cab.
Returning home, Hayden went straight into the bathroom. The pink robe smelled of hospital disinfectant and blood.
Concentrating under the stream of water, Hayden was distracted from everything else.
He supposed Joseph must want to talk about everything that had happened at the hotel. After all, he had said he was the one who would decide when they would be done.
After showering, Hayden stepped out of the room and immediately caught the smell of food.
There was a feast on the dining room table.
âLetâs have dinner first.â
He brought two bowls to the table, and Joseph grabbed a bowl of soup for Hayden.
Hayden was quite confused and looked at the clock on the wall. âItâs already 12 oâclock. Are we going to eat at this time?â.
âEat.â Handing her the silverware, Joseph asked, âHave you eaten dinner?â
Shaking his head, Hayden drank the soup in silence. Then he asked, âHow do you know?â
âAnna told me.â
âHow come she told you everything?â. Hayden frowned, âWhat else did she tell you?â.
âShe also told me that the woman who died in the ER wasnât you.â
Hayden paused slightly and looked up slowly.
The light in the kitchen was quite dim. Whatâs more, Joseph had been ducking his head the whole time. He didnât even notice that his eyes were bloodshot like someone who had been up all night.
âWhat happened?â Hayden was quite confused and wondered why he would be in the hospital.
Joseph took a deep breath, âEat first, we can have this conversation later.â
âTalk about what?â Hayden snapped nervously.
About the breakup?
âAbout what happened before we met, about everything between us. Everything will work out if we can have an honest conversation.â
âAnd if we canât?â Hayden sat up straight and stared at him. He hesitated a little and asked, âThen weâll break up?â
She sensed that Joseph was strangely quiet, which scared the hell out of her.
Joseph frowned at Haydenâs question. He then forced himself to lower the anger in his eyes.
âJust eat first.â The breakup was the last thing heâd want to talk to her about.
âIâm not hungry.â Hayden frowned and insisted on listening to her words. Then her belly growled amid the silence and she coughed awkwardly.
Looking down at her, Joseph handed her a bowl of rice and said, âJust eat.â
Hayden then let out a sigh. Since he hadnât eaten lunch and had gotten into a fight with Franklin on the golf course, he was already hungry.
So he ate it all quickly.
After rubbing his belly, Hayden said satisfactorily, âOkay, Iâm full now. What do you want to tell me? Go ahead.â
Looking at her, Joseph said, âYou probably know that, if I want to know something, I can get the information without asking you directly.â
His condescending attitude made Hayden quite uncomfortable.
âBut you know, I donât want to snoop through your stuff.â
Hayden was taken aback by his words. She then looked at him.
âAs far as Iâm concerned, Iâd rather you be the one who can share your stuff with me yourself. If you donât want me to know, I wonât look into it. Whatâs more, there are things I wonât be able to know, even if I try.â
Pinching her fingers tightly, Hayden suddenly felt nervous.
âHave you come to love other men? How much do you care about me? How come, when something goes wrong, the first thing you think of is abandoning our relationship? Those are things I really canât know.â
Sitting across from her, Josephâs face was as cold as ever. But now, it looked like something had cracked in his eyes.
That crack was the true love in his life and it was a weak spot he was willing to expose.
âYou asked me what I want to talk to you about, but I guess you were thinking of breaking us up. But thatâs exactly the last thing Iâm going to consider.â
Staring blankly at Joseph, Hayden didnât know what to say.
