In a booth of an exquisite Japanese restaurant, there was a woman dressed in a light blue sweater. She had been waiting for someone for some time and when the waiter opened the door, the smile froze on Haydenâs lips.
âThis is Amapola Baker.â Joseph introduced the woman to Hayden and then looked at Amapola, âThis is my fiancée, Hayden.â
Amapola stepped off the tatami and smiled at Hayden, âHi.â
Hayden forced a smile. âHi.â
Joseph didnât notice Haydenâs expression and made her sit down.
Hayden stared at Poppy. Although Hayden had run into her at the mall the night before, she didnât see Amapola clearly.
Amapola was pretty. She had long hair pulled back in a ponytail and her sweater decorated with a print of small strawberries gave her a feminine touch.
She looked at Hayden and smiled shyly, âMr. Beckham told me you were very beautiful. And heâs right, Iâm delighted to meet you.â
Hayden didnât believe Poppyâs compliments. She disliked it, so he just stared at her silently, waiting to see what else she was going to say.
Amapola and Joseph felt embarrassed by the silence. Then Joseph said, âAmapola is a child psychologist, so I wanted to consult her about Noahâs problem.â
Hayden grabbed his clothes with his fingers under the table, âA psychologist? Didnât you say she was a German psychologist? Miss Amapola, are you from Germany?â.
Both Joseph and Amapola were taken aback by Haydenâs hostile questions.
Thinking for a while, Joseph seemed to realize why Hayden suddenly became aggressive and frowned slightly.
âMiss Poppy, have you met Noah, what do you think of him?â. Hayden broke the silence.
Amapola seemed to breathe a sigh of relief, âNot yet, Iâve barely been able to meet with Mr. Beckham. Mr. Beckham has told me that you are the one who spends the most time with Noah, so I want to know more about Noah by asking you.â
Because of Noahâs psychological problem, Hayden had contacted other psychiatrists a lot. He asked Amapola several questions and discovered that, indeed, Amapola seemed to be a professional in the field.
Hayden wondered if she was mistaken.
Alayna told Hayden that Joseph was contacting Noahâs âbirth motherâ, but did not mention who the âbirth motherâ was. Perhaps she was wrong about Amapola being the false birth mother because she saw that Joseph was with Amapola the night before.
âNoahâs psychological problem seems to have nothing to do with his high fever a few years ago. In fact, itâs possibly because Noah has been bullied by someone, Iâm sure youâve heard that some nannies can abuse children. We all believe that children donât have thoughts of their own, but thatâs false.â
Talking about child psychiatry, Amapola got serious: âA baby is like a white sheet of paper that allows others to add color to it and it can be any other color. Noah has autism because he has been bullied by someone and they wouldnât let him tell anyone.â
She was right.
Hayden clenched his fists. What she was saying was similar to the conclusion Hayden and Benjamin had come to after the investigation.
Violet could have easily gotten into the Beckham Mansion at that moment. Theresa, Noahâs nanny, said that she often saw Violet visit Noah. Interestingly, little Noah, who would not listen to anyoneâs words, was silent whenever Violet was there.
The Beckham Family thought Violet knew how to take good care of Noah. That was the reason Harrison allowed her to go to the mansion.
Later, when Hayden discussed this with Benjamin, she was stunned.
No one believed that Violet would dare threaten Noah, the little master of the Beckham Family. After all, she was just a star who wasnât that famous at the time. But what if she had dared to take the risk?
And now the truth proved that Violet was the one who had bullied Noah.
Besides, someone had covered for her.
âWhat solution do you have?â Hayden looked at Poppy, no longer so hostile to her.
âTake it easy and try not to get him on medication. If you know what happened to him and dare to take the risk, you might consider simulating the situation. That would help Noah be less afraid.â
âSimulate the situation?â Hayden mused, âIs that really helpful?â
âThere are some statistics to support it and itâs better for younger children.â
Joseph frowned guiltily, âBut no one knows what really happened.â
THE booked went silent again.
Three years ago, Joseph wasnât there with Noah. When he took Noah with him, Noah was no longer talking to anyone.
There was a long silence before Hayden raised his head, âI know.â
Joseph adopted a fixed expression on his face and looked at Hayden thoughtfully.
Why would Hayden know while he was unable to find out?
âNoah told me.â Hayden lied. He had to lie for Noah, âFrom some of the words and the paintings of him, I reckon he was threatened by someone not to talk.â
Joseph put on a cold face. âWho was it?â
Hayden frowned and shook her head.
She wasnât supposed to know much about this, otherwise she would be suspicious. The others would wonder why she knew so much about the Beckham Family.
âItâs reasonable to have those guesses before knowing more information.â Poppy continued the conversation, âItâs not hard to simulate the situation. Itâs all up to you.â
Joseph and Hayden looked into each otherâs eyes for a second.
Hayden wasnât sure if Amapola could be trusted or not, so she hesitated, âWeâll keep that in mind.â
âAgreed.â Amapola seemed to agree with Hayden, âThink it over, you can call me anytime.â
Saying this, she stood up, grabbed her coat and purse then added. âI have to go now. Enjoy your dinner.â
âWhy donât you have dinner with us? They may be serving the dishes very soon.â Hayden caught herself saying that.
âI canât.â Amapola forced a wry smile, âI have to go to the hospital, the nurse will be on call until eight tonight and I have to relieve her.â
Hayden didnât know what to respond when Amapola mentioned the hospital and a nurse.
When Amapola left, Hayden looked at Joseph.
âWhy is she going to the hospital?â
âYour husband has advanced gastric cancer and has six months to live. Although they donât plan to operate on him, your husband has to stay in the hospital.â Joseph explained briefly, âAmapola has to go to take care of him every night.â
Hayden felt sorry for her attitude, and didnât notice the complicated expression on Josephâs face. He seemed to want to say something.
