Similar in stature and appearance with Joseph, Franklin had a totally different air about him.
At first glance, he seemed much more approachable than Joseph.
Heâs just a character, Hayden thought after critically studying him, âThanks, but no thanks. I have to let the factory know as soon as possible so that our cooperation goes smoothly.â
âYouâre a responsible woman.â She smiled at him, âI heard my cousin is currently working for you, itâs impressive how you convinced him to work for a small company. You really have him eating out of the palm of your hand, donât you?â.
âSave the speech.â Franklinâs insinuation really made her impatient. âMind your own business, Mr. Franklin. You donât want to fall again, do you? The higher you climb, the longer the fall.â
Franklinâs expression changed, his voice became somber, âSounds like my cousin tells you everything.â
âI would have found out even if he hadnât told me. After all, I once worked for the ST Group and I know at least a thing or two about the companyâs history.â
âOh yeah?â Franklin snorted, âWhat you see is what we want you to see, youâre way off the truth.â
âI donât need to know anyway. You lost, thatâs all I need to know, and youâll lose again.â
âWhat if I told you Iâve never lost?â He lifted his chin a little, complacent, âI just spent three years laying my foundation. Losing is not a word in my dictionary, never have, never will.â
âWhat do you mean?â Hayden frowned.
But Franklin didnât answer him, instead he walked away toward the elevator saying, âI guess I shouldnât press you if you donât feel like having lunch with us. Take care, Miss Hayden, Iâll see you.â
Standing where he was, what Franklin said to him echoed around him.
He had a feeling that something bad was happening.
She pondered his words on the way back, she had an epiphany when she returned to the Downey Group.
âMiss Hayden.â Said Anna, âWeâre here, donât you want to get off?â.
âMake sure Dante gets the contract and this file.â Hayden replied, âI have to do something, Iâll catch up with you later.â
âNoted.â Vanessa replied.
Hayden drove to the police college.
The rules were strict here, no vehicles other than bicycles or motorcycles, could enter the campus.
She waited ten minutes before Benjamin showed up with his motorcycle âWhatâs the emergency?â
âThe accident happened three years ago. I think Franklin was involved.â
She cut right to the chase and told Benjamin about the conversation they had today.
Frowning, Benjamin mulled over Franklinâs words. A few moments later, he slapped the back seat of his bike, âGet on, Hayden. This is no place to talk about this.â
âWhat?â Hayden looked doubtful.
âWhat, my bike doesnât fit your status?â. He scoffed, âIâd like to get in your car. But itâs the rules, even the director wouldnât get in here on his car.â
âThatâs not what I mean, come on.â She got in at last.
Hayden was wearing a green dress with a calf hem. Thatâs the reason she was reluctant to get on the bike.
