Sinking into his thoughts for a few moments, Hayden said, âActually, it would have been nice if you told me later.â
In the dim lights, Benjamin saw her smile. Full of attention and as warm as ever.
âYou already knew?â He asked.
Hayden shook his head, âNot the details. I just know that you probably remembered your past.â
âSo why did you keepâ¦?â.
âKeep pretending I didnât know anything?â. Hayden sighed, âAfter all, I did run you over. When I took you to the hospital, you were in rags, I thought you were homeless. Besides, you would have been long gone if you wanted to, I guess you have some secret you donât want to tell.â
Benjamin felt moved and uncomfortable at the same time. After all, being considered a hobo wasnât a very touching thing.
âNoted.â His eyes twinkled.
âYouâre a junior in police college. I wouldnât have thought about taking care of you your whole life if youâd told me sooner.â
Shaken, Benjamin paused as his heartbeat did the same. After a while, he took Haydenâs hands.
âYouâre very kind, Hayden.â
âI certainly am, I donât need you to tell me that.â
âHow about you break up with Joseph, thereâs a lot of drama in his family. Stay with you, Iâll take care of you and Stella all my life.â
âYou?â Rolling his eyes at him, Hayden waved his hands as she removed her hands from his, âHow can you, a college student, say something like that? Youâre still asking your parents for money, arenât you?â.
âIâm not, I earn my own money.â
âYou do? Then why are you still living in my house and eating my food for free?â Hayden raised his eyebrows and looked at him aggressively, demanding explanations.
âNo, I donât have any money.â He changed his words immediately, âItâs just thatâ¦â.
âItâs okay, Iâm just kidding. Stay as long as you want, no oneâs going to kick you out.â She let out a giggle, âWant some more noodles? Thereâs still some left in the pot.â
Benjamin then felt relieved and replied with a smile, âOf course.â
It felt so good to finally get that secret off his chest. He lied so much to others that it almost became a habit, but somehow he felt so guilty lying to Hayden.
News of Yi-Baiâs malicious suppression of Green Lemon Clothing dominated the newspaper industry for several days. Hayden didnât organize it, but it wouldnât be hard to figure out who organized the retaliation.
Considering the public attention this farce had received, it would be so out of character for Edison to never make a call to offer help.
Hayden called Edison to thank him the day the Joann Group notified him that they would be using his designs.
âJoann gave the contract to Green Lemon Clothing. Thank you, Edison.â
Edisonâs voice was mocking from the other side. âItâs supposed to be yours, although there were a few hiccups in the process. Among all the favors Iâve offered you, this one doesnât deserve a thank you call.â
âWell, a thank you canât express my gratitude for those huge favors, but it can for the small ones.â Hayden said, âBut actually, I have something else I need to talk to you about.â
