âSo, are you together now?â.
It was a video call from overseas. Alayna looked vigorous, and was ready to hear all the gossip she had missed.
Joseph officially moved into Haydenâs room after that night, they were closer now than when they were in a relationship. Joseph didnât need to deal with her company now, so he had more time to pick her up from work and get back to her.
However, Hayden was still worried and couldnât handle it alone. She needed a person to talk to, the topic she needed to talk about was only known to a few people. So that made Alayna the best listener.
âThis is really great. See, this way you wonât have to worry so much if youâre with Joseph now. Your daughter is with you, and now your son is with you too, it doesnât seem so bad.â
âItâs not what it sounds like.â Hayden struggled, âI felt like Iâve been lying to him.â

If Hayden didnât know Joseph was looking for Noahâs birth mother, she wouldnât have been so proactive the other night. Hayden was just looking for a safe place before the storm hit.
Hayden could pretend she didnât know anything if Joseph found out she was the surrogate. Since she was already Josephâs girlfriend, Joseph might not even mention it in front of Hayden.
Hayden was betting. She was betting that Joseph really cared about her and would never let anything hurt her.
âYouâre thinking too much.â Alayna continued over the video call, âFrom my point of view, I think you should be honest with him before he finds out. You can always take Stella to Edison if youâre worried. After all, Joseph canât kidnap Stella if sheâs with Edison, can he?â.
âLet me think about it.â
Hayden frowned. Even if she was going to be honest with Joseph, it still wasnât the right time.
âHey, why are you so free? I hear youâve taken over the Downey Group to clean up their mess. How are the former employees doing, are they willing to cooperate?â
Hayden snapped out of his thoughts, âOf course theyâre willing to cooperate. I called two board meetings, but only half attendedâ¦I should probably leave now, I have a meeting with them later and made it mandatory.â
After the video call ended, Hayden leaned against the back of his chair. He pinched his nose, he felt as if the worries and misfortune of the entire universe decided to land on his life.
The Downey Groupâs capital problem was not as serious as the newspaper claimed. The company was experiencing only a temporary interruption in financing. Hayden actively participated in the refinancing, reorganized the companyâs stock and contributed the safety money Bentley Downey had left behind.
Hayden was now a shareholder owning 36% of the companyâs stock.
What he now owned was still less than what Sofia and Chelsea had together. Now that Chelsea was dead her shares went directly to Sofia, but Sofia was gone, so Hayden was the next person who could take over the company.
The people on the board didnât like Hayden. There were seventeen members, including Sofia, on the board, and half of them were related to Sofia. The most rebellious member was the daughter of Sofiaâs third brother, Chelseaâs cousin Belinda Mason.
Hayden wanted to replace the three managers in the Finance Department, and he was already expecting strong opposition.
Right after Hayden voiced his opinion on replacing the CFOs, Belinda rose up in anger.
