âSo you did bring me dinner, why couldnât you tell me? What a weirdo you are.â
Benjamin twitched his lips in disgust and muttered. Looking at the food on the table, he felt his heart grow warm.
Night covered the city of N City, the city lights became the stars in the night sky.
Hayden came out of the bathroom after showering. He stopped the moment he saw the person in his room.
âDamn it, why didnât I close the door?â.
Too much happened in one day. Hayden was exhausted, so he headed for the shower once he got to his room. He completely forgot to lock the door.
âWhat are you doing here?â
Joseph was sitting on the couch near the balcony. He was holding a book that Hayden was reading before he went to bed. It was âA Brief History of Timeâ by Stephen Hawking. Joseph raised his head when he heard Haydenâs question.
He closed the book and dodged his question, âWhat a good book to read before bed.â
âYouâre overthinking it, I started reading it because I could easily fall asleep.â Hayden folded his arms and kept his distance from Joseph. The safe distance Hayden took was the width of a bed.
âInstead of looking at what I read before bed, you should knock on Benjaminâs door before he falls asleep, or youâre going to crawl back into Noahâs bed.â
Joseph frowned, âI havenât showered yet.â
âThen go take a shower, thereâs a bathroom outside.â
âThe shower was broken, the water wonât come out.â
âThatâs impossible.â Hayden glared at him.
âGo and see for yourself.â Joseph didnât argue at all. He put the book aside and got up, âLetâs go.â
Hayden didnât think the shower was broken. Benjamin had been living here for a while and she used the guest bathroom from time to time. The shower had been in perfect condition.
After five minutes, Hayden frowned as she held up the broken showerhead.
âSee, Iâm not lying.â Josephâs voice rose from behind him.
âThenâ¦shower in my bathroom and then get out.â
Hayden was speechless. He put the shower head back in place. âRemember to call the janitor if youâre home tomorrow. Ask them to send a plumber.â
âOkay.â
Joseph responded immediately. He glanced at the main switch on the water tank, there was a sly look in his eyes.
There was silence in the main room. Hayden was reading the Brief History of Time on the couch. There was no noise in the room other than the sound of water running out of the bathroom.
To Hayden physics was boredom and he began to doze off while reading the book. So Hayden grabbed a medical book off the shelf, hoping to refresh what he learned in the past.
Hayden sighed as he looked at the notes he had taken in the book during that time. If it hadnât been for that accident, he would be a doctor now.
Light from the hallway streamed in through the crack in the door and a childâs voice rose as he turned the doorknob.
âMomâ¦â
Hayden lifted her head and saw Stella in strawberry pink pajamas looking up at her. Stellaâs eyes twinkled like stars in the night sky.
