“You all thought Hayden is the darling daughter of Bentley Downey, the eldest daughter of the Downey Family and the legal heir to the Downey Group. She could have been, had she received a fair shake in the Downey Family.”

Scarlett’s voice was so powerful that reporters didn’t know what to say.

“How did the Downey Group grow into such a large company? Do they still think Bentley Downey worked magic? No, he relied on his ex-wife’s family. Bentley Downey divorced his ex-wife after his business grew. Hayden’s mother died of a hemorrhage the day Hayden was born. Think, people, think! How would a stepmother treat Hayden? Do you think she would let him have the Downey Group shares? Don’t overestimate a person’s kindness.”

Scarlett sounded heartbroken. She was telling a sad story she saw over the years.

Hayden grew up with his grandfather and was sent back to Bentley Downey after Hayden’s grandfather passed away. Scarlett wanted to make sure Hayden wasn’t too spoiled, Hayden needed to live a hard life to train her will and not follow in her mother’s footsteps.

Scarlett didn’t want Hayden to grow up innocent not knowing that it was a dangerous world out there. She would rather Hayden blame her and hate her, the most important thing was that Hayden knew how to protect herself.

In the last ten years of being with the Downey Family, Hayden did not disappoint Scarlett because she grew up very well and got into the best medical school in N-Town.

“Other than the ‘status’ of Bentley Downey’s daughter, Hayden was never treated like a Downey. Why would a 20-year-old girl like Hayden clean up the mess left behind by those irresponsible people?”

Reporters looked at each other not knowing what to say after hearing what Scarlett said on stage.

Many of them were unaware of the complicated relationship between members of the Downey Family. They even thought that Hayden was Bentley and Sofia Downey’s daughter. After all, Hayden was seen at Chelsea Downey’s funeral.

Everyone thought Hayden must be responsible because she is the daughter of the Downey Family and lived a luxurious life. Reporters even found out that she had quite a few assets registered in her name.

Scarlett was shaking with rage. Hayden signaled his assistant, she quickly went up on stage and led Scarlett into the living room.

Scarlett could do little for Hayden. Hayden had to walk the rest of the way alone.

“For some of you who may not know, the person who spoke is my aunt. She was my late mother’s best friend, and she’s my late mother’s brother’s wife. She’s a relative.”

Hayden stood up and looked directly at the reporters below the stage, “At first I didn’t invite her to the press conference, but as you know, a lot of rumors came out about me during these days, that’s where she heard about today’s press conference. Since she has already said everything, I guess I have nothing to explain anymore.”

“So you have nothing to do with the Downey Group, Ms. Downey?”

Asked a reporter under pressure, “I heard that Green Lemon Clothing was under the Downey Group.”

“I think you all have looked into what was registered in my name, I should clarify that I do not own shares in the Downey Group. Green Lemon Clothing belonged to my late mother. My father asked me what I wanted before he passed away, so I requested to get back what belonged to my late mother. I don’t think it’s an inappropriate gesture.”

“But, Miss Downey, you went out to deal with the man who wanted to jump off the roof of the Downey Group, and you said you were the one in charge. If you have nothing to do with the Downey Group, why did you go up there to save that person?”

Hayden was stunned. He looked in the direction where the voice was raised.
