Chapter 256

The CEO’s little ones1,402 words~8 min read

“What did you say?” Hayden panicked a little.

Joseph frowned, “Don’t ask the question when you know the answer. Addison and I have no intention of getting married. We pretended we were a couple because Grandpa has been watching us very closely during this time. The reason I said those things while we were having lunch was simply because I was afraid Grandpa would embarrass you.”

Hayden let out a sigh of relief as he picked the carrots out of the water and continued to peel them.

“It has nothing to do with me. It’s your business.”

Seeing her cool attitude, Joseph looked a little grim, “I’ve already clearly explained the earlier misunderstanding. I think there’s no need for us to act like strangers.”

Hearing his words, Hayden again dropped the carrots in his hand, annoyed turned around, telling him, “You think I have nothing to do and to let a stranger spend the night in my house?”.

Hayden became a little agitated, as she was very stressed these days. As she was questioned by Joseph, she could no longer suppress her anger.

Joseph was stunned for a moment.

“I’m sorry.” Hayden frowned and turned away again to pick up the carrots, “Go sit in the living room. Dinner will be ready soon.”

Joseph looked back at him and asked, “Why can you be so sweet and indulgent to Noah, but not to me?”

Hayden squeezed the carrot a little and explained, “Noah is just a boy. Why are you jealous of your son?”

Joseph was speechless at Hayden’s words. When he realized that Hayden wasn’t paying much attention to him, he stayed in the kitchen washing the vegetables.

After watching a man walk in front of her for a while, after half an hour Hayden finally couldn’t take it anymore, “Nobody would wash enoki mushrooms one by one. Can you go out if you don’t know how to do it?”.

After dinner, Hayden sent the two children to the bathroom in his room for a bath. He left the bathroom outside for the two men to use.

After helping the two boys bathe one by one and carrying them hugging each other to their room, he saw Joseph standing in the doorway in his suit when he returned to his room.

“I didn’t bring any clothes.”

Hayden was speechless at the thought, there was no one just like him who didn’t have another change of clothes, but he still wanted to stay the night at his house. “Then borrow a set of clothes from Benjamin.”

“I don’t want to wear clothes that have been worn by someone else.” Joseph seemed calm and said that as if he had done nothing wrong.

Meanwhile, Benjamin’s voice came from the back room, “I don’t lend my clothes to others either.”

“Then what do you want to do?” Hayden looked at him, “You can’t go clothes shopping now, can you? It’s too late now and there’s only one supermarket downstairs. The supermarket only sells T-shirts that are thirty dollars a piece, do you want to wear them?”.

“Go and have a look.” Joseph said, “It’s already ten o’clock. I think the supermarket must still be open.”

“Do you still know what time the grocery store closes?” Hayden looked at him as if she was surprised and deliberately teased him, “I thought the Young Master of the Beckham Family didn’t normally know this kind of commonplace stuff.”

Joseph looked at her, “The ST Group is a shareholder in the supermarket downstairs.”

Hayden felt as if she had some words stuck in her throat. She was speechless and finally looked at him blankly, “Come on. Go to the supermarket your family is a shareholder in.”

The supermarket near her house was a three-story country store chain. The supermarket was large and Hayden used to shop there for food for cooking.

On the third floor was a separate area for clothing. It sold items marked down over the years, and many of the brands were nowhere to be found.

“This is it.”

Hayden pointed to the yellow card in the men’s clothing section that read [Sale. Thirty percent off].

He said, “Take your pick of the clothes. They’re all on sale at the same price.”

Joseph stood still, “You pick. I can wear whatever clothes you want.”

“Are you sure?” Hayden gave him a meaningful look, “You’ll wear what I choose?”.

“Yes.” Joseph nodded directly without even looking at the pile of clothes.

Hayden arched his eyebrows and walked straight into the narrow clothing section. He grabbed five or six fancy shirts without even looking at them. He showed them to Joseph when he came back with the clothes he asked, “Do you want to try them on?”.

Joseph glanced at the pile of shirts that were surprisingly colorful and nodded his head as he was looked at by the astonished saleswoman, “Okay, where is the fitting room?”

“Here.” The saleswoman regained consciousness and led Joseph to the fitting room door. She looked at Hayden who handed the stack of shirts to Joseph to go in and try them on.

“Miss, are you guys going on vacation somewhere serious, why is he buying such fancy shirts?”.

“No, he likes this kind of clothes.”

“He does?” The saleswoman looked surprised, “These clothes are only worn by mobsters, those who have a very seedy look and a big gold chain around their neck, I don’t think your boyfriend looks like this kind of person.”

“He does like them. Ask him yourself if you don’t believe me.”

Hayden stifled a laugh and even had the camera ready. He couldn’t wait to see Joseph make a fool of himself in his fancy shirt.

As they were chatting, the fitting room door opened and Joseph stepped out of it.

Hayden quickly snapped a few pictures of him as he said, “I’ll send these pictures to Alayna and Kelvin. They want…”

Before he finished his words, he looked at the man inside the camera. He swallowed saliva and stopped talking.

What had the saleswoman just said? Did she say that anyone wearing those clothes would look like a mobster?

Nonsense!

Joseph, one hundred and eighty-seven centimeters tall, wore a stylish red and blue shirt with loose buttons that exposed his beautiful collarbones and the inner lines of his pectoral muscles. His wheat-colored chest showed and his long legs were straight as poles on camera.

He looked like a model, rather than a mobster.

“Wow, that’s nice looking. Young man, you look spectacular in this shirt, you look like a magazine model. If you’re willing to let our boss take a picture of you and put it here, a lot of people will come and buy these shirts.”

He hadn’t just said that.

Hayden put her phone in her pocket in embarrassment and appraised Joseph.

What the saleswoman was saying was true.

“How?” Joseph took two steps toward her. He raised his arm and asked, “How does it fit?”

“Fine.” Hayden nodded reluctantly.

Not only did the shirt fit him well, it seemed tailored to fit him. When he walked down the street in is shirt, a lot of girls might try to get his phone number.

“Are there any more pieces for me to try on?”. asked Joseph.

“No need.” Hayden stopped him immediately and looked at the salesgirl like she was rich, “Miss, help me pick up the clothes. I’ll buy them all.”

After buying the clothes, Hayden picked out two more pairs of loose-fitting household pants for Joseph. This time she didn’t try to tease Joseph, she picked out two beige pants that he could wear outside or as pajama pants.

After checking out, they left the supermarket and saw a table set up at the entrance. It looked like there was a promotion going on.

Joseph glanced at the promotion and said, “It’s the chocolate Noah and Stella like to eat.”

Hayden initially didn’t pay much attention to him. At his words, he sniffed and looked at it. It was true.

“This is a game that needs the pair to cooperate. The couple that gets the highest score will receive a free box of chocolate.”

The rules of the game were written on the blue roll-up banner. Hayden stood still staring at the words ‘a free box’.

Joseph, off to the side, stared at the words ‘couple’.
