âI really didnât intend to hurt the two children at first. She told me to cause a smoke accident, and then I would go in to get Noah out. But I didnât expect such a big fire to break out and burn the whole kitchen, I was terrified just thinking about it. But I would never have peace of mind if I hadnât risked going in to get Noah out of the fire.â
Addison seemed afraid at the mention of the incident.
Hayden looked at her thoughtfully.
âSo Violet was using you to frame me for deliberately not saving Noah. On the other hand, if Noah was dead, Joseph would only end up tracing it back to you by investigating him. And you have no evidence to prove Violet did it, because she was overseas attending a film festival at the time of the accident.â
Addison nodded with a complicated look, âI was careless.â
Hayden took a deep breath, shuddering.
Addison had no reason to lie, but Violet had reason to frame her.
If Violet had planned the fire and instigated Addison to do it, then all the suspicions Hayden had had were valid.
For example, how could Addison, a spoiled young woman, collude with the pie maker in the kitchen to harm two children? And how could she suddenly rush into the fire to save Noah at the last moment, even though her strange behavior was also suspected?
Hayden hardly needed to think long and hard before he believed what Addison was saying.
Violet did have the courage to do so. She was different from Addison. Violet had started working in the entertainment industry at the age of seventeen. She had seen all kinds of dirty business, and she knew a lot of lowlifes. She could do those things.
âSo, can you trust me now?â Addison asked Hayden, âIâve been uncomfortable for this long, and Iâve always felt that Joseph knew, but he never made it clear to me. I really canât take this feeling anymore, I donât want to go on like this. I want to do something to get everything back to the way it was meant to be.â
âSo you want me to reconcile with Joseph, like everything was before you showed up?â
âYes.â
âNot likely.â Hayden slowly let out a sigh and leaned back in the chair feeling reassured, âI believe what you just said. But there is more to this matter. Since you know Noah and Stellaâs identities, then you should know that itâs very complicated and not so simple that everything is as it was before.â
âWhy donât you tell Joseph? I can tell he really likes you. If you told him that you are Noahâs biological mother, and that he has a daughter too, wouldnât that be good for everyone? Then he wouldnât have left the door open to someone like Violet.â
Addison felt it was all that easy, and seemed to be looking forward to it.
âI havenât thought about it yet, but youâll know.â Hayden stiffly smiled, âUntil then, I hope you can keep it a secret from me.â
Addison hesitated for a moment and said confidently, âI definitely wonât tell. I hesitated to say it before, but after dragging it out for a long time, I didnât dare anymore. I also knew that what I was going to say would implicate Violet, although I think Joseph might have known that the fire was related to me, Iâm afraid the two of us wonât even be friends anymore after telling him openly.â
Hayden had expected such a response.
Everyone wished that the person he once loved seemed perfect in his eyes.
âThen Iâll take this.â Hayden let out a sigh of relief and tapped the paper bag, âThank you for asking me out to talk about this.â
âIâm the one who owes you an apology.â Addison pursed her lips and crossed her fingers on the table, feeling a little uncomfortable, âActually, Iâm used to trusting Joseph. I thought about it a lot after I got back, my brother also enlightened me several times. I figured it all out and I hope you donât mind what I did.â
Hayden smiled, âYou didnât do anything either.
Compared to what Violet did, so far, Addison only did a little thing.
Addison was just a spoiled little princess. Although her job performance was pretty good and she was a pretty woman, she was a bit of a klutz when it came to relationships. Otherwise, she wouldnât have met with the failure of her last marriage.
The two buried the hatchet by shaking hands and unexpectedly had a leisurely lunch together.
âWhen are you going to France?â
âWhy, you want to kick me out already?â Addison smiled teasingly, âAfraid Iâll regret it?â
âIâm just afraid the things you did before will be unearthed if you stay here too long.â Hayden gave Addison a blank look, âDidnât you say Violet is forcing you to obey her?â
âSheâs only a third-rate celebrity, and with my brother giving her a push, she wonât be as recognizable in the entertainment industry. Until then, will she even be free to talk to me about that cooperation? Itâs ridiculous.â
Addison curved her lips in a look of contempt at the mention of Violet.
âIâll be leaving at the end of this month. You can come and see me off when I leave, Joseph would definitely be shocked.â
âWould he be shocked?â Hayden shook his head, âIâve never seen more than three expressions on his face.â
âTry it.â
Hayden was speechless.
â¦
In the living room of the former Beckham Mansion, the chessboard was set up, with Harrison and Joseph sitting on either side.
âAfter you play this game, go to the Sanchez Family and invite Addisonâs parents to lunch. I want to discuss with them the date of their engagement.â
Joseph sat up straight. âI donât plan on getting engaged to Addison.â
âYouâre not dating Addison? What do you want to do if you donât get engaged? The Sanchez Family already knows about your affair with Hayden. Theyâll only feel reassured when you get engaged to Addison.â
âThen forget it.â Joseph moved a white piece blocking Harrisonâs attack, âI have no intention of committing to Addison. I didnât say it at lunch because there were too many people there and I was afraid it would embarrass you. Addison is just a sister to me.â
âA sister?â Harrison frowned and raised his head, âThatâs not what you told me before.â
âWhat did I tell you?â Joseph had a stern look on his face.
âYouâ¦â Harrison thought about it for a moment, but it was true. Even though Joseph and Addison were always hanging out together, Joseph didnât mention anything about a relationship.
âThis doesnât make any sense!â
Harrison slapped his hand on the table, making the pieces jump. âYou think Iâm senile and you can do whatever you want? You must get married before the end of this year.â
