Kevin’s heartfelt confession could be witnessed by all present.

Hayden had always questioned his sincerity towards Alayna, but he had cared for her over the past few months. Now he had even put aside his high status to accompany her to Estados U for her treatment. Although they were only sweethearts, it was already considered great benevolence.

He thought that, if she were Alayna, she might not be able to turn him down this time either.

But Alayna was Alayna, even under Kevin’s sugary, heartfelt attack, she stood her ground. Brimming with tears, she turned Kevin down, “I’m sorry, I can’t accept you.”

Hearing this, Kevin’s eyes clearly showed disappointment, his raised hands holding the ring hovered in the air, unsure whether to retract it or continue to hold it. Even Hayden, who was watching, felt a twinge of discomfort.

Alayna inhaled deeply, eerily calm, “Look at me now, I’m already happy if you’re willing to join me. To be honest, I wasn’t even willing to let you accompany me to States U. My life has already become uncontrollable, no one knows what will happen tomorrow. But you are different from me, you have no responsibility to me, why get involved in all this?”.

These words were said rationally, but Hayden listening felt sorry for Kevin. After so much work, Alayna still couldn’t completely trust him and let him completely take care of her body and heart.

Even Hayden felt upset.

“I… I understand.” Kevin removed the ring, and said softly, “Don’t worry, I can wait, wait for you to recover.”

The mood was somber, everyone was immersed in the unfortunate situation. Only Edison, who was calm, looked at the time and reminded them, “It’s getting late, we should head to the security checkpoint.”

Among all those immersed in the emotional situation, Edison seemed exceptionally calm and collected. His voice had a soothing quality to it for everyone.

Hayden took Alayna’s hand. “No matter what decision you make, I will always support you, but you have to remember, I hope you live bravely, you still have many places you haven’t visited, many great foods you haven’t tasted. You told me before that you wanted to experience and try everything, anything in this world.”

Alayna nodded, “I know.”

“Take care of her.” Hayden put Alayna’s hand in Kevin’s, “Time will change everything, maybe someday…”.

He didn’t finish the sentence, but he knew Kevin would understand his words, time will change everything, perseverance will pay off.

“Yes, I understand.” Kevin took Alayna’s hand from Hayden, looked at Edison and said, “Then we’ll head to the security checkpoint now, you guys chat in the meantime.”

Kevin and Alayna walked into the security checkpoint. Edison turned around and pulled a blue-gray box out of his pocket and handed it to Hayden. “This is for you.”

Hayden laughed and took the box from Edison.

Standing beside him, Joseph’s face sank.

Edison glanced at Hayden. “There are a lot of things I have to take care of now that I’m on my way back, it will be some time before I can visit you again, please take care of yourself.”

“Yes, I know.” Hayden nodded, “Stella had to go to school today, otherwise I would have brought her to see you off.”

“Don’t worry about that, there will be plenty of time in the future.” Edison’s eyes were calm and dark, “If Stella has any health problems, call me immediately. I’ll have my friend in the U.S. get in touch with a doctor who specializes in the area, next time I’m there I’ll send Stella for a checkup.”

“Sure.”

As the two continued talking, Joseph’s faint voice said, “The plane is taking off.”

Hayden turned around and saw Joseph standing as straight as a pole two steps away from her, one hand raised, looking at Edison with a deadpan expression. “You just rushed Kevin and Alayna, but now it’s your turn to go and you don’t seem to be in any hurry at all?”

Hayden frowned, Joseph didn’t usually talk this much.

“Mr. Beckham, thank you for your kind reminder. But I was reminding Kevin and Alayna not to delay their boarding, not because I was worried they’d miss their plane, but because they wouldn’t make it in time for their hospitalization. There are a limited number of beds at the rehab center, if they are late, there will be problems getting a private room. So it doesn’t matter at all if I make the plane on time.”

Edison’s calm expression and patient manner of speaking were in stark contrast to Joseph’s.

Joseph’s eyes sank, “So, from what I understand, does that mean he really has no intention of leaving?”

Was he picking a fight? Hayden frowned, “What’s wrong with you, Joseph?”.

“Just asking, don’t get me wrong.” Joseph glanced at him, the previous incidents had taught him a lesson, so he was doing his best to suppress his anger.

Edison’s eyes lit up, there was a hint of laughter in his eyes, but he still said slowly, “I really don’t feel like leaving. I’ve only stayed a short time this time, I’ve spent too much time working and not enough time with Stella, I haven’t even been able to help with Hayden’s company matters. But according to Kevin and Alayna’s interests, I think Mr. Beckham, he’s going to help right?”.

Edison’s words were meaningful, but difficult to understand the deeper meaning behind them.

From Hayden’s point of view, Edison was polite and was simply making some pleasantries to Joseph.

But from Joseph’s point of view, this was Edison clearly proclaiming his territory. Instead of saying that Joseph would help in Hayden’s best interest, he was saying that he should only help in Kevin and Alayna’s best interest.

It was clear what his intent was from that sentence.

Thinking more about it, Edison was also avoiding talking about his relationship with Hayden.

When it came to women, men could usually tell if it was a friend or foe simply by a look. What’s more, they had already exchanged such a long conversation.

According to Joseph, Edison was definitely an enemy.

“Of course.” Joseph’s eyes were dark, looking at Edison added a bit of pressure to his words, “Let’s not talk about the past. Even though we’re looking out for Kevin and Alayna’s interests, I’ll also look out for Stella and Noah’s interests, I’ll take good care of Hayden.”

I thought we weren’t going that way anymore, but he still brought up the subject.

You’ve got plan A, I’ve got plan B.

Edison’s face remained unchanged, his cheerful, soft voice crisp and clear. “The kids get along great, in fact they’re the same age. Besides, Stella has a very lovable personality, she can get along with everyone.”

“Apart from this reason, it’s also mainly because my son likes Hayden very much.”

The two were exchanging opinions for quite a while. Hayden, who was listening, was getting more and more confused, “Are they having a parenting knowledge session? Are they even talking about the kids now? Edison, you don’t have to be polite to him, go to your security check, you’re going to be late.”

Edison gave a small smile. “All right then, I’m going now.”

Hayden said goodbye to Edison telling him, “Text me to let me know you’re okay once you get there.”

Edison waved his hand in agreement.

Joseph, who was standing next to him, had his eyebrows furrowed until the lines on his forehead formed a railroad track. His cold voice contained a hint of unhappiness. “You’re his mother, why does he have to tell you when he gets off the plane?”

Hayden glanced at her and replied weakly, “I’m his wife.”
