Josephâs face instantly turned grim, but he showed no intention of speaking.
Hayden began to take the hint. He deliberately teased him, âActually, if you have some weird preferences, itâs understandable. Besides, your sexual orientation has always been an unsolved mystery in City N. I donât think itâs necessary to keep it a secret, Iâm just curious, what is it that can make two people start a fight in a bed?â.
Josephâs expression became even darker than before. He seemed to be trying to contain his anger.
âCould it be because they havenât had enough fun? Or is it that they got into a fight because they havenât decided who would be on top and who would be on the bottom, so they got into a fight?â
Joseph watched Hayden talk more and more ridiculously, and saw Magnusâ expression in the rearview mirror. Magnus was trying not to laugh out loud, so hard that his face turned red.
Josephâs expression was as dark as the bottom of a pot.
âArenât you the person who knows the most about my sexual orientation and my strange preferences?â
The gravelly voice reverberated in the car, which made Haydenâs ridiculous tone disappear in an instant.
Haydenâs face instantly reddened. At that moment, she was speechless and didnât even dare to look up.
He was a scoundrel, how could he say such things?
Seeing Hayden calm down, her expression immediately calmed down. She gave him a slight glance. He noticed that she was not as shameless as she was acting a moment ago. He only said so little and so briefly, but she was already blushing.
The inside of the car was a little stuffy. Besides, no one wanted to talk anymore.
This made the atmosphere even heavier.
Joseph realized that he seemed to have spoken too bluntly, and Hayden seemed to feel uncomfortable about it. Hence, he began to regret it; he found that no matter what Hayden did, or how upset he was, he couldnât resist that Hayden held an important place in his heart.
When they arrived at the hospital, the doctor merely dressed the wound on Josephâs face. Then, he arranged for a chest x-ray to avoid possible rib injuries.
When Magnus went to get the medicine and the doctor left to attend to other patients, only the two of them were left in the emergency room. They were speechless.
Hayden grabbed his bag, hesitated for a moment and said, âSince youâre okay, Iâll go.â
Before he could step forward, Josephâs cold voice came from beside him, âArenât you going to give me an explanation for what happened today?â
Hayden froze for a moment, âWhat kind of explanation do you need?â

âSamuel asked you to go to the hotel, and you literally went. Donât tell me you went to the hotel just to discuss some business matters with him.â He doubted her again.
At first, Hayden was touched because she knew Joseph showed up at the hotel to meet her. She knew he did that for her, but now her feelings were disintegrated by his questioning.
She couldnât understand what else he could do at the hotel if he wasnât there just to discuss business. When she thought about this, the meaning of his words was clear.
âThatâs my business.â Hayden looked at him angrily. All her feelings were wasted, âYou didnât tell me why you went to the hotel, so why should I tell you? I have things to do, Iâm leaving.â
He turned and left as he finished his words.
âYou donât know why I showed up at the hotel? Hayden Downey, are you that insensitive?â His voice came from behind him. He sounded furious as he said that.
Hayden tried to calm down and said coldly, âWell, I thank you for doing that for me, and I also exempted you from Samuel crushing you. So, itâs a draw, Mr. Beckham.â
âAnd if I hadnât gone, what were you going to do?â
âI was going to do what I was supposed to do, I thought you had it all figured out for me.â Hayden turned his back on her. She turned her head to look at him, her eyes were full of strangeness.
She looked so disheveled and ignorant. Her attitude made Josephâs chest heave with anger. Without hesitation, he gave her wrist a tug and spun her straight around. In the midst of her shock, she became alarmed and struggled, but in pressed her hard on the gurney.
âWhat are you doing? Let go of me!â Hayden struggled with all her might, but she feared being heard by the people outside, so she dared not make any strong movements.
His sturdy arms were placed next to her shoulders, and his shadow covered her, as if she were imprisoned and unable to move.
She stared at the woman beneath her body. Joseph began to feel a deep sense of helplessness. He gritted his teeth as he said, âHayden, do you know that you are repeatedly challenging my boundaries? Youâre making me feel like I was a fool to fall in love with a woman like you.â
Hearing this, his heart felt extremely uneasy. Then, he said angrily, âNo one will be a fool forever. Itâs not too late to stop.â
âIt is too late.â
Joseph continued to stare at her. His hands clenched into fists, squeezing her shoulders until they creaked. He leaned forward, ignoring her pained, contorted expression, âAre you in pain? When I heard you say those words, the pain in my heart was ten thousand times worse than this. Itâs hard to imagine my heart hurting so much because of a woman. But what are you doing when Iâm in pain? Going to live happily with the guy who gave you residency? A happy family of three living together?â
Hayden bit his lower lip and tried to bear the pain. He refused to make noise, he had a high tolerance for pain, but it still made his eyes well up with tears. She hated that man so much. He was the cause of so many tragedies. She was the one who suffered, but he was calm. And yet he came and questioned her, as if he were the victim.
âHave you finished humiliating me? If youâre done, let go of me.â His words came out between his teeth. The cold sweat on the side of her forehead dripped on the snow-white pillow and soon disappeared.
However, Joseph had no intention of letting her go at all. He expected her to fight back, struggle or even yell at him, but she resisted him in such a nonchalant way. It made him feel like he was punching a pillow, where his strength would bounce off and he would only hurt himself.
âDo you find that humiliating?â Her eyes were cold, âWhat will happen after I let you go? Are you going to call the police again? Are you going to sue me for rape again?â
When the past was brought up again, they didnât talk about the good times, but the cruelest scars of their breakup. No one felt good when they remembered the scars that hurt the most. Haydenâs heart clenched for a second when he heard that, he feared he might do something extreme in the next second. Fear instantly filled his eyes.
His fear fell into Josephâs eyes, even the fluorescent lamp over his head couldnât hide his fears. He made a shocked face and regretted it. Then he slowly let go of her hand and sat up.
He had once thought that he was master of his emotions and that no one could really influence him, but when he met Hayden, it was as if a big bug had suddenly appeared in the precise structure of his life and changed everything around.
He accidentally found out at dinner that Samuel would be driving her to the hotel when he was done. From then on, he was distracted throughout the night. He wondered if she was crazy. Would she really run to the hotel to pick him up for the project? After all, this woman was once married for a residency.
When he thought about this, he felt annoyed that such a nasty woman who would do anything for his purposes had remained in his heart for so long.
âGet lost.â She said suddenly.
Her voice was muffled and hoarse, denoting a sense of loneliness.
Hayden pulled away. Her hands, which were clutching tightly to her purse, loosened a little at the sound. His nerves also calmed a little.
