Samuel felt that he was very unlucky today. Before he even managed to meet who he wanted to meet, he had already been beaten up out of nowhere. He knew he couldnât afford to offend Joseph, but he couldnât hold back.
Once this lamp hit Joseph, his head would definitely split in two.
He was busy imagining Josephâs head splitting in two, and imagining himself bragging to everyone about how he managed to teach this arrogant Young Master a lesson.
However, imagination was always more wonderful than reality.
In reality, before the lamp had even touched Josephâs head, Samuel felt something on the back of his own head. Next, he felt a stream of warm, sticky liquid sliding down his neck.
Behind him, Hayden, his face pale as a ghost, held a steel pipe.
Samuel turned around to look at Hayden in surprise.
Plonk The steel pipe fell to the floor and rolled noisily, joining a pile of sex toys in the corner. Samuel passed out before he managed to utter a word, he fell straight off the bed.
âIâ¦I killed someoneâ¦.â.
All the blood drained from his face, Hayden looked down at his own hands, his legs felt heavy and he couldnât even move a little.
âSo much bloodâ¦â. Haydenâs head began to buzz, his vision blurred, he couldnât concentrate on anything and he couldnât stop muttering âbloodâ.
Before she managed to come to, she felt her body being wrapped in a warm, tight embrace, until she could barely catch her breath.
Joseph pulled her into his arms, as if he were embracing a treasure he had lost, and buried her head in his shoulder. His anxiety only dissipated a little when he became certain that it was indeed Hayden in his arms.
Before she had appeared in front of him, he had thought he might never see her again in his life. Samuelâs words had made him believe that something terrible had happened to the love of his life.
Soon, police sirens sounded on the other side of the window. The police cordoned off the crime scene and began taking eyewitnesses away. As Hayden walked away from Josephâs arms he still didnât understand anything. She hadnât even been able to utter a word to Joseph before she was taken away.
âName.â
âHayden.â
âAge.â
â25â.
ââ¦â.
After routine questioning, the police retrieved Haydenâs information from the files and looked at her in surprise, âNot China?â
Hayden nodded and explained, âI grew up in China but moved to the U.S. 5 years ago. This matter doesnât have much to do with me. You can ask whatever you want, but donât tell the embassy.â
As a U.S. citizen, if it was a serious case, the police had no right to deal with her directly.
The police nodded and asked, âTell me, what happened here?â.
Hayden related the whole incident truthfully.
âI donât know the reason why you asked me to meet you at the hotel, I donât even know this hotel, ummâ¦. oh yeah, I was the one who made the report to the police.â
âSo what is your relationship with the man who was beating the victim?â.
Hayden was a little puzzled. âHeâ¦â
While he was still hesitating, there was a knock on the door and a slightly older police officer opened the door. âHayden can go.â
The officer in charge of the interrogation looked surprised. âSir, I havenât finished taking my report notes.â
âYou donât have to make them anymore, the matter is closed, you may leave.â
The police officerâs expression was hard to read. The interrogating officer was no fool, he immediately stood up, âYou may leave, Miss Downey.â
Hayden knew he would not be here for long, because Josephâs social status and position would not allow him to remain in this place for an extended period of time.
He saw Joseph when he came out of the police station.
He had some wounds on his face and a bruise at the corner of his lips. He must have distracted him when he called his name, which allowed Samuel to punch him in the face.
Hayden perked up and approached him, feeling awkward and not knowing what to say.
They hadnât seen each other in a while. They had even been avoiding each other at some functions and banquets in N City.
No one would have imagined they would find themselves in a situation like this.
âCome on, Magnus has driven the car here, Iâll take you back to the hotel.â Joseph said in a hoarse voice, and left immediately after finishing his words.
Slightly startled, Hayden hesitated for a few seconds before following him.
The car pulled out of the police station and into the bustling traffic of S-City.
Compared to N City, this city was much more bustling and prosperous.
âWhich way?â Joseph asked as he got into the car.
Noticing the dried clot at the corner of his lips, Hayden hesitated for a moment before answering, âLetâs go to the hospital first.â
âNo need.â Joseph frowned, âItâs just a little bruiseâ¦â.
Before he finished the sentence, he began to cough loudly.
Hearing Josephâs cough, Magnus, who was driving the car, looked in the rearview mirror and said anxiously, âMiss Downey, youâre not well. Mr. Beckham broke his ribs in his earlier fight with Edison Godfery. He should be recovering in the hospital, but now, heâs suffered new injuries when the old ones havenât even recovered.â
âWhat?â Haydenâs expression changed, âHis injuries were that serious?â
âHow could it not be serious? Mr. Beckhamâ¦â
âMagnus.â Josephâs brittle voice cut off Magnusâ half-sentence. A cold air lingered in the car, âYouâre getting more and more talkative. Stick to driving the car.â
Magnus shut his mouth as instructed, and followed Haydenâs instructions to drive to the nearest hospital, the speed was fast.
Joseph furrowed his eyebrows, he didnât want to be scolding Magnus again. He just thought this guy was getting bolder, refusing now to even follow his bossâs instructions.
There was silence in the car for a while. Hayden lowered his head, rubbing his knees awkwardly.
âAh, yes, why did you fight with Samuel at the hotel?â.
Samuel had a good family background, but that was only limited to City S. Compared to Joseph, they were on a whole different level. Hayden wondered if Joseph even knew him.
Joseph frowned. It looked like he wasnât planning on explaining himself to him.
âHave you been following me?â Hayden continued to question him, âYou entered the hotel at about the same time I did, if I hadnât gotten the wrong pio, I would have arrived at the place first.â
The man with the foreign accent who was blocking the door mentioned that Joseph and Samuel had started fighting because of his fiancée. So Hayden couldnât help but think of it this way.
If this âfiancéeâ meant herself, and if she had arrived on the scene first, then Joseph and Samuel starting a fight would seem more logical.
âYouâre thinking too much.â Joseph denied her theory matter-of-factly.
Hayden looked at his serious face, suddenly a playful thought came to him and he said significantly, âIf not for me, then Iâm very curious. Mr. Beckham, why were you in a love hotel?â.
