After getting mad at Kevin, Hayden went back to her company to work an extra night shift. Edison called her in for breakfast first thing the next morning.
It was 7:30 a.m. and not yet prime time to buy breakfast at the food stands. Even if it was, no one would be there like Hayden and Edison, eating quietly at the table.
Hayden was very tired. Edison put the peeled eggs on the small plate in front of her and said, âYou look so tired. Didnât you sleep well last night?â
âI didnât sleep.â Hayden waved his hand, yawning again, âI slept for a while at five in the morning. But the office environment is too hoop, and the couch is too uncomfortable. I woke up before you called me.â
âYou have to take it easy to run a business. You donât need to expend too much energy in the beginning.â
Edison, as an experienced person, was advising Hayden sincerely.
However, Hayden was ungrateful and brought up his past: âGive it a rest. Five years ago, when I worked as a janitor at your company, I always saw you working overtime. The office light was always on all night, we thought you might be a robot.â
âEven a robot needs charging.â
Edison smiled, not caring about the old stories, âWhatâs more, youâve seen a bad example, havenât you? After working so desperately, in the end, the company ran short of funds and nearly went bankrupt. If you hadnât saved me in time, I might be sleeping in a U.S. subway station right now.
âSo the subway there really does choke talent.â
Hayden drank the soy milk after he spoke, still able to joke despite his bad mood. âHow about I go over there and see if I can scout out a few talents?â.
âYouâre still able to joke, that means youâre not low in the mood yet.â Edison pointed at her with a warm smile, âDonât you want to know why I came to see you so early?â
âWhy?â Hayden asked lazily, not disguising his curiosity.
Edison didnât care either, and said weakly, âI think you should spend more time with Alayna during this period. After all, she will be returning to the U.S. with me in two days. And then it wonât be as easy for you to see her as it is now.â
âWhat?â Hayden was surprised. âYouâre going to take Alayna to Estados U? Kevin agrees?â.
âI donât think it was considered âagreedâ. After all, it was her boyfriend who came to me for help.â
Hayden was completely shocked. âSo it was Kevin himself who contacted you and told you that he had decided that Alayna should go to the U.S. for treatment?â
âYes.â
Hayden was speechless after her affirmative answer.
Was he a masochist? Kevin didnât take it seriously when Hayden spoke kindly to him at first, and reacted so violently, with such a bad attitude. After scolding him directly to his face, Kevin addressed him personally. Was he an asshole?
âWhen are you leaving?â After calming down, Hayden asked with a straight face.
âBefore the end of the month.â Explained Edison, âLeaving you more time to say goodbye to Alayna.â
âTime for me? Iâm afraid he doesnât even intend to leave a single moment for me.â Hayden was eating the egg, looking weakly.
âWho, Kevin?â Edison smiled mischievously, âThen youâre overthinking it. Kevin was planning to go along with Alayna.â
âHuh?â Haydenâs jaw dropped, âReally?â.
âOf course. Otherwise, why would he come to me personally? I was just wondering if the psychiatric hospital I arranged, can let a family member live with her.â
âDoes she want to stay at the hospital, too?â.
At that moment in Kevinâs house, Hayden witnessed Kevin yelling in front of her that psychiatric hospitals and rehab centers were not good to live in. Even a normal person would go crazy staying in those places.
But Kevin would dare to overcome anything for Alayna Cole.
Edison returned to the U.S. at the end of the month, so Alaynaâs hospitalization was scheduled for the same period.
Although Hayden and Kevin didnât reconcile face-to-face, after that, Hayden was still bringing bags of stuff home. And whenever he had time he would go cook for them.
With Alayna mediating their dispute, Hayden and Kevin were not embarrassed.
That day, while they were eating dinner, Kevin got a call. He had always been fooling around, but this time he returned with a serious countenance.
âWhatâs wrong?â Alayna asked worriedly.
âItâs nothing.â Kevin looked at Hayden, âJust that something happened at the ST Group board meeting. I was asked to go back and cast a vote.â
âA vote?â
Alayna and Hayden both made shocked faces.
The ST Group was a family business, and Joseph Beckham was a man of his word. There was never anything that needed to be voted on by others.
So there were very few issues that could get all the board members to show up for a vote at that time.
âThey want to remove Joseph from the position of president.â
Kevinâs face took on a ghastly expression as he looked at Hayden, swallowing the words, and hurried away.
For a family-owned company, the shareholdersâ meeting was the main deciding factor for the company manager. Then the board of directors would vote after ranking the top five according to their percentage shareholding in the company, respectively.
And the same was true in the event of a withdrawal.
At the ST Group board meeting.
Kevin was the only latecomer. The result of the vote was a tie, with half in favor of withdrawal and half against.
Kevin did not hesitate to vote against.
When the results were known in the conference room, some were happy and others were concerned. Joseph didnât say a word, adjourned the meeting and left the company immediately. He didnât even have time to talk to Kevin.
Kevin immediately grabbed Magnus, who was trying to catch up with Joseph. âWhatâs going on, why are they suddenly talking about removing you from your position?â.
Magnus sighed. âItâs not just because of the loss of the project in Guangzhou. Harrison was unhappy as the board of directors again insisted that a professional manager is more suitable and they also wanted to change the management model of the family business. So they brought up this dismissal.â
âWhere is Joseph headed now?â.
âTo the old mansion, perhaps.â Magnus held the documents tightly in his hand and said, âMr. Jackman, I canât talk to you anymore. I still have to drive for Mr. Beckham.â
After saying this, Magnus kept up with Joseph.
After a while, the car pulled into the driveway of the Beckham Family residence.
Joseph was cold and indifferent as he entered Harrison Beckhamâs study.
âGrandpa, did you accept the professional managerâs plan?â.
âYes. Whatâs going on?â Harrison practiced calligraphy calmly.
âNothing.â Joseph pouted, âWhat do you mean, let Franklin be the professional manager? Have you forgotten what happened three years ago?â
At the mention of three years ago, Harrison instantly paled for a moment.
Just then, noises came from outside. âNoah, wait for me. Donât run so fast.â
Noah responded without making a sound.
