Kevin’s words made Hayden’s heart stop for a second.

“Why are you asking this out of the blue?” She looked at him suspiciously.

Kevin looked relaxed, “Actually, I don’t know much about the outside world lately. I heard that you had broken up with Joseph a few days ago. If Joseph’s information is correct, that means you’re not divorced yet, right?”.

Hearing this, Hayden sighed in relief, but frowned, “Yes.”

“Great.” Kevin’s reaction was beyond her expectations. In fact, he gave him a thumbs up, “Only you have the ability to make Joseph willingly become another man. I really admire that.”

Was that a compliment? Hayden couldn’t bear to hear it. He said fiercely, “There is no such thing as Joseph being another man. I married Edison for U.S. citizenship. I did it in order to implement a legal identity for Stella and me. That time, Edison needed money and I needed a legal identity, so it was just a deal.”

“So… Stella’s father isn’t Edison either?” Kevin touched his chin and reacted with hindsight, “A deal? You said your marriage to Edison was just a deal? Why didn’t you tell Joseph this?”

“He told you I didn’t?”. Hayden became even more upset, “He’s the one who has nasty things inside his head and assumed everyone was just like him. What else is there to say?”

She had told Joseph that she married Edison to get a residency, Yet he was so stubborn and treated her like a materialistic woman who would do anything to get what she wanted. What more could he say?

Kevin was stunned. As an onlooker, neither of them were wrong. They were just angry at each other and provoked more conflict, causing things to spiral further and further out of control.

“I don’t understand what you mean, can you explain more about it?”. Kevin looked at Hayden with a puzzled expression, “Why is your marriage to Edison just a deal? I’m curious about that.”

“It’s a long story.”

Hayden began to reminisce.

That was five years ago, when she had just given birth to Stella and Noah. She took Stella with her and escaped to the U. S. Stella had not been born in that country, so her visa expired after staying there for a while. Therefore, she had only two options. The first was to return to her country and reapply for a visa, the other was to return to the Downey Family and tell them the truth.

Either option would force her to return home. At that moment, Hayden felt very insecure. She feared returning to that place full of sad memories and being targeted by the man who forced her to have a child for him. That’s why she preferred to stay illegally in the U.S. rather than return.

“At the time, I was a janitor at Edison’s company.”

“Janitor?” Kevin was surprised.

Who would have thought that a girl from a wealthy family could be a janitor?

However, Hayden didn’t explain much about why she had chosen that job.

“Edison ran into a problem in his business. He was $10 million short; I had that kind of money. When I talked to him about lending him the money, he didn’t trust me at all. He thought I was crazy. How could anyone lend money without interest?”

Hayden still remembered that at the time he was wearing a brown janitor’s uniform when he abruptly walked into Edison’s office. At that time, Edison was not so calm, when he entered his office, he was throwing all the things on his desk on the floor due to anger. He was the CEO of the company, but his office looked like a pigsty.

“But later, he believed me because he wanted me to fake a marriage with me so that Stella and I could live quietly in the U.S.”

Without hesitation, Edison finally agreed. No matter how Hayden convinced him, from today’s point of view, he kept all his promises to Hayden.

“And after we are married?” Edison couldn’t help but ask, “You didn’t live together?”

“Of course not.” Hayden shook his head.

“Then he took the money I gave him and moved to another place to work. He was in the northern part of the U.S. and I was in the southern part. The two places were far apart. Whenever festivals or vacations came around, he would fly down to accompany Stella and make her think she had a father.”

When the truth came out, Kevin let out a sigh of relief. But right afterward, he couldn’t help but worry about her.

It was a big misunderstanding. Joseph must have said words that hurt her deeply, he was afraid that because of this situation it would be a little difficult for Joseph to get her back.

Joseph had to do something about it.

“I guess this is a situation where those involved can’t see the big picture clearly, right?”. Kevin watched the expressions on Hayden’s face.

“You see, I’m the spectator and I can’t completely look at this matter from an objective point. More or less, I’ll look at it with some subjective point of view, not to mention that Joseph is one of the people involved in this situation. He is closely related to you.”

“If you want to say something, say it.” Hayden gave him a simple look, “No need to ramble on with me, I’m not in the mood to listen.”

Kevin nodded and tried to explain himself as best he could, “You see, you and Edison are in a sham marriage and you didn’t inform Joseph of it ahead of time. After all, marriage is a serious event. Even if it’s just an arrangement, you couldn’t expect Joseph to take it as if it never happened, could you? So, I understand Joseph’s point of view a little and I apologize instead.”

His words were not misguided. Hayden has also reflected on whether it all happened because she didn’t take it seriously, or because of what gave rise to all these suspicions and conflicts.

But when she thought that Joseph treated her so badly just because of those little suspicions and conflicts, she couldn’t help but get angry at him.

“If he wants to reconcile, why doesn’t he come himself?”. Hayden glared at Kevin fiercely, “Why does he let you come and apologize for him? His sincerity has eaten the dogs.”

“Then you’ve really hurt him.” Kevin’s face was helpless: “Joseph is still in the hospital, he has broken ribs, he can’t go anywhere anytime soon, so don’t be too hard on him.”

“He’s hospitalized?” Hayden’s expression abruptly changed, “Why is he hospitalized?”.

“Huh? You don’t know.” Kevin feigned a shocked face, “Joseph was injured during the fight at the restaurant half a month ago. The doctor said he had to stay in the hospital for a while, after all, he needs plenty of time to recover from his injuries.”

Hayden’s face paled instantly.

When Kevin mentioned that Joseph had been injured because of a fight, Hayden immediately knew the reason he had been involved in a fight. But she really didn’t know that Joseph had been hurt so badly that day. Edison was always good-natured and didn’t fight with anyone.

“For this half month, he has called me every day to harass me, and I’m very frustrated about it, so I thought I’d come and see what the problem was between the two of you. Now I realize there’s no problem.”

Kevin was a good talker. He had the ability to turn black into white.

“You think the guy named Edison is the main problem? You and him are just fake spouses, what could be the problem, why can’t two people who really love each other and there’s no problem between them be together peacefully?”

Hayden frowned, “Which hospital is he in?”
