The car was stuck in heavy traffic. They were moving slowly like a snail down the road. When the traffic was about to get better, they prepared to speed up the car, but someone in the car shouted, âStop the car!â.
âWhat?â
Nathan, Scarlett and Stella were stunned.
Scarlett reacted first. She quickly grabbed Haydenâs arm. âWhat are you doing? You promised to stay out of this trouble.â
Hayden frowned. She sounded frightened as she looked out the window, âAunt Scarlett, this is an emergency.â

Hayden wasnât just being soft-hearted, she felt empathy for these people. All lives should be respected and treated seriously.
The traffic light turned green. The driver didnât know what to do, but when Nathan signaled him, he pulled to the side of the road.
Scarlett looked angry: âHayden, do you think youâre invincible with Josephâs support? Weâre talking about a group of companies. You know itâs basically a black hole if thereâs a gap in their financial situation? How do you expect to fill a black hole?â
Haydenâs mind went blank as soon as he heard Josephâs name.
Scarlett didnât know they had broken up, and Hayden didnât have a chance to clarify.
âAunt Scarlett, do you really think itâs best to let the Downey Group go into bankruptcy?â Hayden calmed down and looked Scarlett in the eye, âIt wasnât just my fatherâs business. It was my motherâs, too.â
Scarlett was stunned and her hands went cold.
It was too long ago. She had almost forgotten that the Downey Group was related to her best friend. Scarlett didnât want to be reminded that her best friend was related to the Downey Group.
In the beginning, Florence was one of the Downey Groupâs largest shareholders and one of the most important members of the board of directors. When she passed away, Florenceâs family hated Bentley so much that they wanted nothing to do with the Downey Group. So they divested themselves of Florenceâs share of the stock on the cheap.
âI paid two hundred thousand dollars down for the new Downey Group project, and I borrowed money from all my relatives. Downey Group ended up abandoning the project. Now my girlfriend has broken up with me, and my father suffered a stroke after hearing the news. I still have to pay medical expenses, but I havenât received my salary for half a year.â
It was windy on the rooftop of the 35th floor. The black leather jacket the man was wearing was worn. His lips were chapped and his face was red from agitation. The man blamed all his unfortunate experiences on the Downey Group. He shouted, âIâll jump if I donât get my money! I will hunt them down each and every person who works here.â
The crowd of people felt encouraged by the man and became agitated.
A thin woman ran out of the crowd and approached the firefighters. She entered the building after clarifying her identity and intentions.
âThe owners of the Downey Group are bastards, no one dares come close to negotiating. It looks like Iâm not going to get my money back, I should jump out of here right now.â
âCalm down! Weâve informed the Downey Group board members.â
The firefighters were about five or six meters away from the man in the black jacket. They were all intense and thinking of all kinds of countermeasures.
âYou only have one life. You may not have money now, but you can always get it back.â
âWhatâs the point of living if I donât have any money?â.
The man in the leather jacket took no advice. He was furious: âDonât come near me. Iâll jump if no one from the Downey Group responds to my request on the count of three.â
âTheyâre on their way.â
âOne.â
âCalm down!â
âTwo.â
âTeam two prepare to relocate the air cushion.â
âThree.â
âWait a minute!â
Hayden ran off the ladder the moment the man counted to three. He gasped and waved at the man in the leather jacket from afar.
âDonât jump! Iâll⦠Iâll give you your money.â
The man in the leather jacket was stunned, âWho are you?â.
âDidnât you want to talk to the person in charge of the Downey Group, Iâm the one in charge.â
âDonât lie to me, Iâm not going to believe just anyone. I know the faces of the heads of the Downey Group. You are not one of them.â
The man in the leather jacket was furious, âYou should try harder if you want me to believe your story! This girl will not earn my trust.â
Hayden calmed down after catching his breath. He looked at the man calmly, âMy name is Hayden Downey. You donât know me, many Downey Group employees donât know me either, but I am Bentley Downeyâs daughter. I have obligations to the Downey Group. Didnât you want your money back? I can pay you back.â
The man in the leather jacket was flabbergasted, âReally?â
âThis is my ID card, come see for yourself if you donât believe me.â
Hayden took out his ID card and raised it in the air, âThe Lord will fulminate me if I lie to you.â
The man in the leather jacket hesitated. He stared at Haydenâs ID card and slowly climbed down from the edge.
The firemen immediately grabbed the man in the leather jacket and pulled him to the ground.
He shouted, âLet go of me! Let go of meâ¦â. The man in the leather jacket struggled and shouted angrily, âYou tricked me! You tricked me!â
Hayden breathed a sigh of relief.
The man in the leather jacket walked past Hayden as he was restrained by the firemen and policemen. He looked like he was going to launch an attack at any moment. When he saw the ID card in Haydenâs hand, his expression changed.
Hayden was stunned for a moment. A voice emerged from behind his back as he was about to ask a question.
âThanks for your help, what team are you from? Iâve never seen you before.â He turned around and saw a young firefighter.
He thought she was a plainclothes police officer.
Hayden shook his head, âIâm not a cop. Iâm just a bystander.â
âOh yeah? Youâre so smart.â
âI just told the truth.â
Hayden walked down the building after the firefighters. The crowd of passersby and onlookers surrounded the main entrance to the building.
The police officers feared the man in the leather jacket might do something irrational again, so they held him tightly as they escorted him to the ambulance. They planned to take him to see a psychotherapist. Judging by the way he was talking, the man might be suffering from mental problems.
Hayden was told that the man had no girlfriend and that he had not paid any advance of two hundred thousand dollars.
Just before the man was sent to the ambulance, he turned around and yelled, âThatâs Bentley Downeyâs daughter! Grab her and weâll get our money back.â
