âHayden, are you okay?â
Freddie came instantly after receiving his call. He hadnât even removed his makeup. He was wearing a blue tuxedo encrusted with sequins and looked fatigued, with Cleveland following him.
The police had already left, and Hayden opened the door to let the two of them in. She looked exhausted.
âIâm fine.â
Two cups of hot tea bubbled on the small table.
Hayden gave a brief account of what had happened. She only told them about the nasty breakup with Joseph, who got into a fight with her and forced her to call the police.
âIâll move in with you.â Freddie wrinkled his eyebrows, âAlthough I donât think Joseph would dare come back another one, but Iâll break his leg if he does.â
âNo need.â Cleveland, off to the side, spoke in a deep voice, âJoseph is not a stalker. Now that heâs gone, heâs not coming back. If he really wants to get back at someone, he wonât do it himself.â
âYou say he wonât do it himself, look at my sisterâs neck.â
There was a clear bruise on Haydenâs neck. It was caused by Joseph holding her neck when she struggled, maybe it wasnât on purpose, or maybe he lost control when he was angry, but this was the most obvious wound and evidence of his guilt.
If Cleveland hadnât stopped him, Freddie would have run to the police station to beat the crap out of Joseph.
âItâs really not necessary. Iâm calling because thereâs something else I want to talk to you about.â

âWhat is it?â
Hayden looked at Cleveland.
From the moment heâd walked into Haydenâs house, Cleveland hadnât acted like a stranger in the least, and now he wasnât aware of the situation either. He sat on the couch with a relaxed air.
âIâm not going to say anything. Besides, Joseph and I are business rivals, I donât think you need to be scared of my telling him what you said. He might even be able to help you.â
Cleveland was very cheeky.
Freddie directly rolled his eyes, âWeâre talking about a personal matter and itâs none of your business. You get the hell out of here and Iâll stay here for the night.â
âNo way.â Cleveland refused outright, he obviously planned to stay here and didnât want to leave.
Hayden frowned and really didnât feel like settling an argument between Freddie and Cleveland.
âNever mind, I donât want to keep hiding this secret any longer. I want to take this opportunity to cut him loose and I also want to get custody of Noah back.â
Hayden had no pretense about how the police would treat Joseph. The sole purpose of calling the police was to kick Joseph out of her house. After the police arrived, she changed the password on the front door.
It wasnât the first time. Hayden couldnât accept that Joseph would treat her violently, if only because he misunderstood her. As angry as Joseph was and as much as she didnât understand, he still couldnât force himself on her.
This time, she wouldnât forgive him again.
âTrue, you should cut him loose. But, custody⦠What do you mean?â Freddie was stunned, thinking Hayden had said something crazy since she was too angry.
âHayden, you canât have custody of other peopleâs child, even if you like Noah very much.â
âNoah is my son.â
Haydenâs face turned grim. He clenched his fist and his hand was almost bleeding as he pinched it with his fingernails.
From the look on his face, it was clear he wasnât kidding.
Not only Freddie, but even someone like Cleveland, who had always been calm and self-possessed, was surprised.
After all, no one would have thought that, between Josephâs son Noah and Hayden there was such a relationship, since at first no one could figure out who Noahâs mother was.
When Freddie left Haydenâs house, he looked somber.
After getting into the car, he looked at Cleveland who was sitting in the driverâs seat.
âDonât tell anyone about this business.â
Cleveland rested his long fingers on the steering wheel. The carâs logo, consisting of a horse and shield, shone between his two fingers, reflecting his calm, handsome face. âIâm not so free, but didnât she say so? Soon this matter will no longer be a secret.â
At her words, Freddieâs expression grew grimmer.
âNoah is the apple of Josephâs eye, How can he be willing to let Noah go and give custody of Noah to Hayden? Iâm afraid Hayden wonât even be able to keep custody of Stella when Joseph uses all his power and connections.â
âIâm more curious how Joseph slept with her six years ago without even knowing who she was.â
âShut up.â Freddie rolled his eyes at Cleveland, âDidnât you say you wanted to help her? Now that you know everything. what are you going to do?â.
âI can help her.â Cleveland looked at Freddie, âYou have to give me a reason to help her, right? Besides, Iâll help my family, even if Iâm wrong.â
Freddie frowned and was silent for a moment, after thinking about what his words meant. His face paled.
âCleveland, do you want to die?â
Ever since Cleveland had been bothering him, Cleveland was like a piece of gum he couldnât get rid of. Cleveland interfered in all his affairs and actually helped him solve a lot of things. However, he often took advantage of him verbally. He would say words out of the blue, without thinking them through.
âIâm not in the mood to joke with you right now. Take me home please.â
âSit properly in the chair.â
After finishing his words, Cleveland stepped on the gas pedal. The roar of the engine attracted the attention of countless passersby on the street. The aerodynamic body of the car was like a rocket. With a whoosh, the car sped away and reached the ring road.
The night they learned the secret was not a quiet one. There was smoke in the city. It was raining and the thunderstorm washed over the streets again and again as if trying to erase all traces of the past and make everything start all over again.
At dawn.
At the entrance to the police station there was a sharp braking sound and a young man in a white car in a suit quickly got out. He was sweaty after running, and as soon as he entered the police station, he hurriedly grabbed a female police officer and asked.
âWhere is Joseph?â
The officer looked at him and impatiently waved her mouth in the direction of the detention room. âHeâs in there, heâs been waiting all night for his family to come in, why is he coming in so late?â
âIâm sorry. My phone ran out of battery last night and I turned it off.â
Magnus was sweating. He had always been dedicated to his work, but last night his phone ran out of battery and he turned it off. He got up in the middle of the night to go to the bathroom and, as usual, looked at the time before realizing he had received a call from the police station. At that moment he was very nervous.
His boss had been at the station all night and had called him countless times, but he was not answering his calls. He thought he might get fired and that worried him, as he still needed to save money to buy a house and marry his wife in N City.
The police briefly asked Magnus a few questions about the relationship between him and Joseph before giving him permission to enter and talk to Joseph.
âWhatâs the meaning of this, canât I just take my boss already?â.
âOf course, do you think itâs that easy to let go of the person who had been accused of rape?â. The policewoman was a bit annoyed.
âThis case is not that simple. We have already reported it to the higher department and we have to keep the suspect here temporarily with all the evidence until tomorrow morning to see if the victim who reported the case wants to present the evidence and sue the suspect.â
âHow is that possible? Miss Downey is Mr. Beckhamâs girlfriend. Theyâre getting married and theyâre just arguing, itâs not possible that this happenedâ¦â.
âIs that so?â The policewoman closed the notebook in her hand and looked at Magnus, âBut the suspect denied his dating relationship with the victim.â
