âA man and a woman stay in a room late at night, do you think you can explain what you did?â.
Joseph flashed his cold eyes, and his aggressive stare made the atmosphere in the house become eerie, as if the room was ice cold.
Hayden leaned on the table and stood up straight. He frowned and said, âCalm down. Edison and I are just friends. I think youâve misunderstood us, he just came back from overseas and brought me home after helping me during my fatherâs funeral. Whatâs wrong with me inviting him over for a cup of hot tea? If you donât believe me, itâs useless for me to explain, isnât it?â.
He thought Joseph must not be such a mean person, who would throw such a tantrum just to see Edison. This was too unreasonable.
âYou two are just friends. Are you sure you can repeat the phrase in front of me?â.
gαâηÏνððsâ¤ð¸Ð¾m, your fiction hub âWe really are just friends.â
Joseph clenched his fist. His face was pale. He flipped open the picture on his phone directly and placed it heavily on the table to show her. The back cover of the phone collided with the marble countertop, making a frightening sound that echoed clearly throughout the room.
Looking at the contents of the photo, Haydenâs expression gradually changed.
âYou were investigating me?â
The photo showed his U.S. data, his marital history, and even a family photo that included Hayden and Edison.
âIf I donât investigate you, how do I know that you still have a romantic relationship with him so engraved in your heart that the two of you are still paired to this day?â Joseph had lost his mind and his words were extremely mocking.
âNow all I know is that you can make love with your male friends and you can also have a baby with your male friends. You are really generous with your friends.â
âJoseph. what did you say?â Haydenâs face turned pale and she was unable to believe the nasty words she heard.
âCanât you understand what Iâm saying, isnât that the ex you told me about? No wonder you didnât say anything to me before. I thought you were hurt during that failed marriage, now it seems Iâm the one being cheated on by you!â.
Josephâs roar echoed throughout the room.
âItâs not like that at all!â. Hayden was desperate, âCan you hear me? Even though Edison and I are married, weâre really just friends, weâre just-â.
âJust what?â
âJust try to get residency so I can settle in the U.S. with Stella.â Hayden hastened to say. Although she was angry, she didnât want Joseph to misunderstand them any further, so she had to explain the matter clearly.
Joseph grimaced.
He grimaced more coldly and his eyebrows were full of contempt, âYou could do this for a dorm? What else could you do?â
âYou donât believe me?â At the sight of his scowl, Haydenâs hands and legs began to tremble.
Joseph took a deep breath as if desperately trying to suppress his anger.
âDonât you ever think before you lie? Donât you think the words you said were all lame excuses? You and Edison are just friends and you were married for a U.S. residency. So who is Stellaâs dad? How many men have you been with?â
The coldness of her words penetrated the marrow of his bones and slowly invaded his every limb.
Hayden slammed his eyes shut and could no longer control the irritation he had tried so hard to contain in his chest.
Who was Stellaâs father, he dared to ask me that question?
Joseph couldnât tell that she was irritated. Yet she was growing increasingly frustrated. As her anger built up, her clenched hand loosened for a few seconds before she raised it high.
At first she wanted to slap Joseph.
However, he was too quick to react and his large hand grabbed her wrist directly, squeezing it so hard that she cried out in pain and shock. She almost thought her wrist was going to be crushed by him.
âAre you already upset about the fact that I found you out?â Joseph snorted coldly, âI thought you were good at hiding your lies, is it too late for you to figure out how to cover up?â
âJoseph, you son of a bitch!â. Hayden struggled to pull his hand away, but he held it tighter.
âArenât you willing to do anything to get what you want, even have a child with a random man?â Joseph pulled her to him and said in a cold voice, âHow about I help you expand Green Lemon Clothing, so youâll have a baby for me too?â
âFuck you!â
Hayden was furious, and his other hand frantically slapped Josephâs chest.
But he didnât seem to feel any pain when he was hit by her.
Joseph became more irritated as she became disgusted with him and continued to resist. He grabbed her other hand mercilessly and dragged her out of the kitchen as if she were a doll and slammed her against the living room couch.
âLet go of me, Joseph. Youâre a bastard.â
Hayden cursed him using every vulgarity he could think of.
However, this enraged the man even more as he roared. He sat on Haydenâs waist and placed his hands above his head with one hand. With some effort, he ripped open his shirt with the other, causing the buttons to fall to the floor.
Struggling, Hayden kicked the floor lamp on the side of the couch. With a jarring sound, the lamp shattered and buzzed a couple of times before the entire room was suddenly plunged into darkness.
Joseph hesitated to move for a moment, but a sudden sharp pain hit him from underneath.
âAhâ¦â He let out a choked grunt and collapsed onto the couch, âHayden, youâ¦â.
Panicking, Hayden used her strength to push him away, then rolled her whole body for a while before running to her room, closing the door and sitting flaccidly behind it.
After a long moment, Joseph banged on the door.
âHayden, come out.â
He winced quickly and then shouted at the door in a hoarse voice, âFuck you, I never want to see you again in my life.â
The outside became silent.
Hayden wasnât sure if he had left, and she had no way to vent her anger. She was shaking and barely able to control her emotions. She reached out and grabbed the phone lying on top of her bed.
âIs this the police station? I want to file a report.â She told the police what had happened.
âIâm in the Seasons neighborhood. I live on the 22nd floor and someone is trying to rape me.â
She explained the situation to the police.
Joseph was already gone. In the darkness, he felt sorry to see Hayden fleeing into the room in a panic. He regretted making such a ghastly spectacle in the eyes of the woman he loved.
But he did not regret losing control of himself. He had never met a woman he loved and cherished so much, and yet she had kept such a lie from him that he could not believe it.
The police stopped Josephâs Land Rover at the traffic lights at the intersection. âMr. Beckham, someone is suing you for rape. Please come with us.â
Joseph was speechless.
The police were taking evidence and photos in the room. A policewoman stayed in the bathroom of the room to reassure Hayden for quite a while.
âHayden, I have to ask you, are you and Mr. Beckham a couple?â.
Hayden furrowed his eyebrows and finally nodded his head.
âSo this caseâ¦â. The police officer felt a little embarrassed, âThis case is not easy to handle. We will help you coordinate with him as best we can, but you must also be mentally prepared.â
âThere is no need to coordinate with him. I donât want to see him again.â Haydenâs voice was loud and clear.
