Bentley’s funeral was scheduled for Saturday. After the morning farewell ceremony, family relatives took the ashes for burial at the cemetery. According to Bentley’s wishes, he wanted to be buried next to Florence Barnett after his death. Sofia Mason cried and fainted once at the funeral after hearing this news. But in the end she agreed.

Although she agreed, Hayden disagreed with her. And Hayden’s aunt, Scarlett Zack, also rejected this suggestion. So the Hayden family had to choose another cemetery, far from Florence’s grave.

“Bentley, don’t worry, I’ll take care of our daughter and run the company when you’re gone. My brother’s children are grown and also have ability. According to your will, they are all entitled to inherit the company…”.

An ordinary funeral turned into a stock distribution conference by Sophia.

Hayden was depressed listening to her. She stood still for a while and then turned away from the crowd in silence.

Bentley was considered to be throwing his life out the window, having a hard life and suffering, yet being cheated on by Sofia in the end. Hayden could not believe that his father would leave his entire inheritance to Sofia and her family. Even in order, he should give it to Chelsea Downey first.

It all went up in smoke after the death. Hayden no longer wanted to be involved with the Downe Family.

Before leaving, Hayden walked over to his mother’s grave to take a look at it.

After kneeling down and pulling weeds, Hayden looked at the picture on the headstone and let out a sorrowful voice: “Mother, I guess you’ll be able to see Dad in the afterlife now. I’ve taken it upon myself to forgive him. I don’t think you would want me to hate him too, Grandpa told me that when you gave birth to me, you gave me this name, hoping that I would live my life in peace…”.

After much rambling, Hayden grew tired of standing there and wanted to leave. As he turned around, he found someone dressed in black, with a dazzling white flower on her black shirt.

Sofia looked at Hayden coldly and spoke viciously, “I’ve been looking for you for a long time and you’ve come here all by yourself. You think I have nothing better to do?”

When Bentley was still alive, Sofia used to be a good stepmother. But it had all disappeared after his death.

Hayden scoffed inwardly and spoke nonchalantly, “The funeral’s over, what more do you want from me?”

Sofia scoffed as she looked at Hayden contemptuously, as if she had prepared herself for this. “The funeral is over, but don’t you want to hear about your father’s will?”.

Hayden frowned, “Does it have anything to do with me?”

“That’s too bad.” Sofia burst out laughing, “Indeed it has nothing to do with you, not in a single word are you mentioned in his will. Don’t you think that’s funny? He didn’t even leave anything for the daughter he always loved.”

The look of Sophia being pompous and arrogant was making Hayden sick.

“Florence, look at you. Your daughter you always thought of was really worthless in Bentley’s eyes. He left your daughter nothing, did you know that?”.

Sophia stared at the picture on the tombstone, her eyes wild and full of resentment.

Hayden stood in front of the headstone and said in a cold voice, “Please behave and respect the dead. My mother has no reason to be humiliated by you.”

“Humiliated?” Sofia curved her lips, “Do you think she humiliated me any less? She was being haughty, aloof and pretentious, but she still lost her life, didn’t she? What goes around comes around, Florence, You think you can beat me by leaving such a bitch behind?”

Hayden trembled with rage, “Beat her?”

“Who are you to tell me to leave? There’s one thing I’ve wanted to do for a long time.”

Sofia raised her arm fiercely.

It was raining lightly in the sky. When Hayden raised his head, a raindrop fell on his eyelashes, and he closed his eyes, not having a chance to dodge the slap. By the time he realized it was too late.

But the expected pain did not fall on her face. Instead, Sophia exclaimed, “Who are you?”

Hayden heard a familiar voice.

“Who I am doesn’t matter.” The man’s voice was firm yet inviolable, “All you need to know is, if you slap Hayden, then I will make you and all the inheritance you inherited, become nothing overnight. I mean it.”

“Edison.” Hayden looked at the man in front of her in surprise, “Why are you here?”

“I came back to the country early. I heard about your father’s accident, so I came.” Edison Godfery merely explained as he looked coldly at the woman in front of him.

Sophia sized up the two people and suddenly scoffed, “Hayden, you’re very capable, picking on Joseph and now someone else. Do you make a living counting on men alone?”

Before she finished speaking, two black men appeared next to Hayden and grabbed Sophia from both sides.

Lorraine stepped out and said in a cold voice, “Gag her.”

The two bodyguards did as they were ordered, pulled out a handkerchief and stuffed it into Sofia’s mouth, not letting her speak any further.

Lorraine waved her hand and the two men took Sofia away.

“Hey.”

Hayden gestured.

“Relax, it’ll be fine. This is just to warn her and we’ll let her go then.” Edison patted Hayden’s shoulder to reassure her.

Only then did Hayden let out a sigh of relief.

After she finished dealing with Sofia, Lorraine turned to Hayden with her umbrella and hugged her, saying sincerely, “I just heard about your father, I’m so sorry for your loss, Hayden.”

“It’s okay.” Hayden hugged Lorraine too, smiling bitterly, “It’s good to see you again, Lorraine.”

Lorraine was taller than she was, and every time she hugged Hayden, it was like hugging a child. Hayden wasn’t short at all, but she always looked puny when Lorraine hugged her.

After all, Lorraine was mixed race, she had good genetics.

“It’s raining, do you still want to do something, Hayden?” Lorraine released her, the umbrella sheltering Hayden.

Hayden shook his head, “No.”

The rest of the matter was nothing more than Sofia’s family members squabbling over shareholding. Since the will had nothing to do with her, naturally, she had nothing to do with them either.

The rain was pouring down. Hayden and Edison left under the same umbrella. She didn’t notice someone else standing in the other direction of the cemetery. He was exhausted from catching the earlier flight back here, and had just seen Edison hugging Hayden as he left.

“Mr. Beckham, don’t you want to call Miss Downey.”

Magnus was standing next to Joseph with an umbrella, feeling bad.

The resort project in S-Town was in the midst of discussion when Joseph heard the news about the Downey Family. And he rushed back immediately mid-negotiation.

“Take the car and follow them.” Joseph’s voice rang out.
