âFeel free to eat whatever you want. My treat.â Freddie waved his hand and reserved the entire food stand.
The woman selling there brightened up, âCome, take a plate and choose for yourself. what would you prefer? All the ingredients are fresh.â
Freddie took a large plate full and let the woman pour food on it, then took it sincerely to Cleveland, âCome on, itâs on me.â
She hurried to give it to him, finished it and got lost.
Freddie was inwardly delighted, thinking how could a spoiled kid like Cleveland eat something like that?
Cleveland looked at the big plate full of skewers, examining it for a while, then took it. âWhat is this, whatâs it called?â.
âWow, you donât even know what this is?â. The woman next to her felt helpless.
Cleveland nodded and commented, âA simple version of hot pot.â
âYou eat hot pot?â Freddie looked at him dubiously.
Why, Freddie always thought Cleveland was born to eat only Western food, expensive and in tiny portions.
âCompared to Western food, I prefer the rich variety and strong flavor of Chinese food.â Cleveland gave Freddie a look and began to eat the skewers in his hand.
Slowly, he devoured all the food.
Cleveland, are you a pig? Freddieâs eyes almost popped out of his sockets, âYou ate all of it?â
âTastes good. Give me another one, please.â
Cleveland looked at Freddie and handed him the empty plate with an expectant look.
Freddie saw that Cleveland really liked eating this. He regretted bringing him to this.
âCan you stop eating?â
âWhy donât you eat too?â. Cleveland handed her a tempura, topped with the special sauce, âTry it, itâs delicious.â
âOf course I know itâs delicious.â Freddie almost freaked out, âDo you know what it would cost me to eat this? Eating one of these would cost me an extra two hours on the treadmill at night. Iâm exhausted.â
Others would not experience the life of a male performer.
Cleveland nodded, âYou donât have to be so hard on yourself. I think it doesnât matter if youâre fat or not, but you might feel better to the touch if youâre chubby.â

âMy uncle died ages ago. But they can fuck my sister, sheâs so hateful.â
âYouâre crazy.â
Freddie rolled his eyes at Cleveland. As he was digging in his own pocket, he noticed some missed calls on his phone from the Downey Familyâs former nanny, Camille.
He immediately called back, âHello? Camille, whatâs up?â
Cleveland was busy eating and saw Freddie pale as he spoke on the phone.
âHave you informed Hayden? Tell me the address of the hospital. Iâm heading there right now.â
He turned and headed for the roadside after he finished talking.
Cleveland was about to follow Freddie, but was stopped by the woman, âHey, you havenât paid yet!â.
She put a pile of money on the table and hurried away, trying to keep up with Freddie.
It was already late. Sobbing from the family could be heard in the hospital, as well as apologies from all the doctors who had been involved in the operation. âMy condolences, the dead canât come back.â
The doctors were already numb from having said these words so many times.
Outside the operating room, chaos reigned.
When Freddie arrived, Hayden Downey was sitting alone in a corner with bloodshot eyes, looking in the direction of the operating room. Sofia Mason was arguing with the doctor, but Hayden had no intention of dissuading her.
âYou canât get like this. The patient died of acute liver failure, weâve done everything we can to resuscitate him. Weâve done everything possible.â
âNonsense. Bentley was fine in your hospital and you said he could be discharged. And all this happened after he was discharged not long ago-how could it not be your responsibility?â
Sophia acted like a harpy, tugging at the doctorâs white coat, and even ripped his pocket. Actually, she was not sorry, but rather resentful.
No one knew why she resented the doctor.
Chelsea and Hayden were separated by her father, draped in a white cloth on the surgical gurney. Chelsea never thought she would one day find herself in such a dilemma.
Chelsea was embarrassed to see her motherâs insanity, causing senseless trouble and putting all the blame on the doctor. She never felt of having blood on her hands for any time like now.
âMom, stop it.â Chelsea suddenly spoke up and pulled her mother, who was on the floor, âDad is dead, we canât do anything anymore.â
There were tears in Sophiaâs eyes, she was stunned, feeling unsatisfied.
She shook off Chelseaâs arm and pushed herself away with the help of the crowd.
The doctors were then able to push the operating table into the morgue storage room.
Among the rowdies, Hayden was alone and followed the operating gurney in silence.
He was followed by Freddie, who arrived late.
âFreddie.â Chelsea quickly stepped forward and called out to Freddie.
âWhatâs wrong?â Freddie looked at Chelsea.
âNo, nothing.â Chelsea could barely say it, âIâll take over here. Go ahead and comfort her. After all, dead people canât be brought back.â
Freddie frowned, âI know.â
After saying this, he took off after Hayden without even looking back.
Chelsea stared at him for a long moment. She laughed listlessly as she watched him walk away.
In the past to the present and even the future, he always had his back to her. Freddie had never taken the initiative to look at her. And she didnât know what she was still clinging to.
âMr. Downey died, but why doesnât she seem to be grieving? Did she have a bad relationship with her father?â
Chelsea came back to herself at the sound of a cold voice. She raised her head, and was stunned, to see Cleveland, who appeared out of the blue, âMr. Sanchez, what do you mean by that?â
âNothing, I just think itâs funny. Her father dead and her mother has made a fuss to blame it on the hospital. Does the Downey Family lack this compensation? Or maybe they lack a reason to take comfort?â.
Chelseaâs expression changed, âMr. Sanchez, you canât say whatâs on your mind without consequences.â
âIâm just saying.â Cleveland smiled, and the way he looked at Chelsea was chilling.
Heâd seen a lot of that kind of gossip in those wealthy families. Bentley Downey was barely fifty, but he died of liver failure, and even the hospital wasnât sure of the cause of death. It was inconceivable.
And the reaction of the Downey Familyâs widow and daughter was also suspicious.
