âConfess to me?â. Joseph was driving the car, âIs it about a medical history? Do you have depression too?â.
His words left Hayden speechless. She simply asked him in a joking tone, âWhat if I have too? Maybe I met Alayna in a patient group.â
âWhat if you have too?â Joseph looked at her, as if to confirm something, âYou want to hear the truth?â
âItâs all nonsense, except the truth.â
Joseph pondered for a moment and slowed the car. âIf you have depression too, Iâm not as much of a problem as Kevin. I donât have parents and my grandfather is almost 80 years oldâ¦â.
âKnock on wood!â Hayden couldnât listen any longer, âHurry up and say âknock on woodâ! If your grandfather knows youâre cursing him like that, heâll kick you.â
âGrowing old and dying are the common things of life.â Joseph said as if he was talking about the weather.
âForget it, harping on you is a waste of time.â Hayden felt a little helpless.
Joseph was a person who would not show any expression on his face, even if the sky collapsed in front of him. He wouldnât act like Kevin, like the world was going to end. So what was the point of her asking him this?
âWhat were you trying to tell me a moment ago?â Joseph sped up the car. There was still a distance before they could reach Haydenâs apartment.
Staring into the distance, Hayden frowned, âItâs not very important, letâs talk about it when we get home.â
A sense of complexity shone in Josephâs eyes.
In fact, from the moment Hayden said he wanted to confess something, he instantly connected it to the man named Edison.
If Hayden could confess everything herself, then the problem that stood between the two of them was no longer a problem.
After 30 minutes of driving, the car pulled into the driveway of the apartment building. Joseph sighed lightly.
Hayden leaned back against the car seat and drifted off to sleep, showing no sign of waking up.
â¦
Joseph did what he had promised. He took off work for a whole week and took care of Hayden every day, 24 hours a day.
However, from the third day on, Hayden began to regret having made this request.
The reason was that, Joseph was really a boring person. Every day he stayed at home reading some book. If not, he would take her to visit the two children, he was not even willing to go down for a walk in the neighborhood.
âHow about going down for a walk, donât you get bored staying home with me every day?â. Hayden looked at the man on the couch. She sounded rather forlorn.
âI go alone?â Joseph lifted his head from his book and looked at her.
âOr else what?â Hayden pointed to his leg, âYou donât expect my crippled leg to go anywhere with you, do you? Please forgive me.â
âItâs not impossible.â
The book that seemed dark and deep closed in a snap.
After more than ten minutes, Josephâs assistant, Magnus, came and dropped off a new wheelchair after confirming that Joseph really would not be attending the board meeting.
âIt was originally set up for Grandpa, but now youâll get to use it for the first time.â
When he heard Joseph say this, Hayden almost let out a gush of water from his mouth.
Then Hayden was reluctantly pushed out of the house by Joseph.
It was September and it had just rained. When the wind blew, it was a little chilly.
Joseph was thoughtful to put a blanket over Haydenâs legs. In the elevator, Hayden couldnât help but look at herself in the mirror. She felt like a handicapped amputee.
Her thoughts were confirmed when she met the nosy neighborhood ladies. They took turns approaching and attending to her.
âHi, arenât you Miss Downey from the 22nd floor, what happened to your leg, are you all right?â.
Hayden explained all the way down that she just had some burns. By the end, her lips were almost exhausted.
âLetâs go.â She looked at Joseph silently imploring him.
It was really unacceptable to simply make requests. At first, she just wished Joseph would go for a walk, but in the end she was the one who suffered.
Why was she like this?
âWell, where are we going?â
Joseph didnât like to be interrupted when he was strolling either. He wanted to change places to continue this kind of âromanceâ.
âAnything, anywhere will do. Thereâs a supermarket over there and a park next door.â
âThe park is similar to the neighborhood here.â
âThen letâs go to the supermarket.â Hayden nervously covered his face, âI guess no one will recognize me at the supermarket.â
âWell, the eggs are almost gone, weâll go buy some.â Joseph said earnestly.
Hayden looked at him, âCanât you buy eggs, what else can you cook besides hard-boiled eggs?â.
Earlier, Joseph said he knew how to cook, but the result was that he boiled ten eggs, all of them were fully cooked, very hard-boiled eggs. Hayden almost choked when he tried to eat them.
Hearing that his cooking skills were not to his liking, Joseph pushed the wheelchair as he walked and pondered for a while, âI can also try to cook other dishes. I studied a recipe last night, itâs not too difficult.â
Hayden glared at him, âOh yeah? Then let me learn what your ânot too difficultâ really meant.â
For a novice in the kitchen, did he have any idea how much oil and salt to add to the food?
In the vegetable area.
Joseph carried a plastic container, which contained grated potatoes and green bell pepper in the same container. I ask Hayden to confirm his selection, âThese can be made into potato strips with green bell pepper, canât they?â
âYes.â Hayden responded lazily. He opened his lips and said, âBuying already cut and prepared dishes is what you call cooking, huh?â.
âSaving time, the supermarket has a good marketing strategy.â
Joseph put the container on the small cart. He pushed the cart with one hand and pushed the wheelchair with the other.
âYou push the cart. I can handle the wheelchair by myself.â Before Hayden could grab the two wheels on either side, a little girlâs voice sounded behind her.
âMaâam, I can help you.â
Hayden turned around and saw that a five- or six-year-old girl with two braids was standing behind her wheelchair. She was holding the wheelchair with both hands and had an innocent look on her face.
Behind her were her parents.
The young mother, especially kind at first glance, apologized when she saw the situation.
âIâm sorry.â The lady frowned and pretended to be angry with her daughter, âSophie, let go of her quickly. You canât do it.â
âMistress canât walk, I want to help.â
Hayden lowered her head, she felt a little embarrassed.
âSophie, how can you talk like that?â. The young motherâs face went white, âYou know you canât talk like that about others? Come here quickly.â
âHmmâ¦â. Hayden looked at the girl, who was aggrieved at being scolded, she couldnât help but interrupt.
âActually, Iâm only temporarily injured, Iâll be fine soon.â He looked at the girl fondly, âYou want to help me, donât you?â.
âYes.â The little girl nodded her head.
âThen, could you push me over to the place over there where they sell candy?â.
The little girl looked hesitantly at her mother.
The young mother, after all, was also so concerned about Haydenâs ego, she nodded and said, âBe careful, donât push too fast.â
âI know.â Saying this, the girl pushed Hayden toward the candy stand.
âThis chocolate is delicious.â
Hayden took a box of imported chocolates from the shelf. âMy son and daughter love to eat these too.â
