“No regrets.” Joseph raised his eyebrow and called out to Magnus, “Cancel all my work for this week. Also, let some trusted people keep an eye on the remodeling of Hayden’s company. And don’t contact me if there’s nothing serious in the next two days.”

Hayden was perplexed at her words. Joseph, a workaholic, would he postpone a whole week’s work just because of a joke she had made?

She had been in the ST Group president’s office, where documents were continually being sent. Joseph’s desk would already be stacked with papers from being absent from work for half a day, let alone the whole week!

“Miss Downey, how much will you pay for the nurse’s fee?”.

Hayden then came to after hearing her words and said calmly, “At market rate?”

“That’s too low. Nurses don’t warm your bed.”

Hayden’s mouth twitched, “Who wants you to warm the bed?”.

He seriously suspected Joseph was behaving this way on purpose.

Joseph kept a straight face as he said, “Then it’s a bargain. The purchase of a nurse who comes with extra accompaniment.”

Who wanted his offer?

Hayden was shaking with laughter.

It was already dark by the time he finished undergoing the doctor’s examination at the best hospital in town. Hayden was pressing the piece of cotton on her arm, feeling melancholy.

She had undergone emergency treatment for a burn in the field, but she was still worried about the germ infection. She had even had a full body checkup and a blood test.

“The wound dressing is pretty torn, but it’s not too bad. You can leave after changing the bandage, and as for the blood test result, you can come and get the results next week.”

After picking up the medications prescribed by the doctor, they left the hospital.

The black car drove through the dense traffic. The bustling prosperity of N City and the quaintness of Sea View seemed to form a contrast of time and space, creating a subtle affection in Hayden’s mind.

“It’s late already, are you still going to visit Alayna?”.

“Sure.” Hayden nodded, “She told me once that she spends most of her time sleeping when she’s sick. So there’s not much difference between day and night for her. I’ll pay her a visit, and you…talk to Kevin then.”

There was no need to force herself if she couldn’t handle a turning point in her life.

Joseph knew what she meant and nodded, “I’ll tell him the reality, but it’s up to him to choose. Do you have any words you want to pass on to him?”

“No need.” Hayden shook his head, “We’ll talk about it when you’re done.”

“Sure.”

When Alayna fell ill, Kevin took her to the hospital for a medical examination and dispensed ointment for her wounds. After giving her a consultation, the psychiatrist recommended hospitalization, but Kevin declined, as he had observed the psychiatric hospital environment. He could not bear for Alayna to stay with these people.

So, Alayna now stayed with Kevin in his apartment.

Kevin quit his job at the ST Group and spent all of his time accompanying Alayna.

Opening the door, Hayden saw a bearded face. If it weren’t for the fact that she had seen Kevin’s disheveled appearance before, she would have been genuinely shocked at that moment.

“Sorry.”

Kevin looked to be in good shape. Seeing Hayden look surprised, he embarrassedly touched his beard and explained, “I’ve taken apart and thrown away all the razor stuff that was in the house. So I haven’t taken care of it. Please come in.”

There was a depressed person in the house who at any moment would be suicidal. In fact, it was necessary for Kevin to be alert at all times.

“Is she asleep?” Hayden entered the house and looked in the direction of the master bedroom.

Kevin shook his head, “No. She’s watching TV inside. Come in and check on her.”

“Sure.”

Hayden went straight into the bedroom, leaving the two of them in the living room.

She believed Joseph would take the worst case scenario into account and tell Kevin that his chances would be slim. Not to mention whether he could handle the life of a depressed person, as well as whether his parents could accept Alayna’s existence as well. It was a serious problem.

He might not be able to convince her parents.

Hayden cleared his mind as he closed the door. And he watched the person curled up on the bed.

Hayden seemed not to have noticed before that Alayna was thin. And when she curled up, she looked like a helpless animal, feeling insecure.

She was intently watching a princess movie playing on the tablet on a stand in front of her. There was only innocence left in her once sharp eyes.

Hayden’s heart melted as he saw that look in Alayna’s eyes.

Anyone who saw such a look would be moved as well. Not to mention Kevin, who was deeply in love with her, and a man who insisted on marrying her before.

“Alayna.” Hayden spoke softly so as not to startle her.

The woman who was curled up in bed suddenly pulled the blanket up, burying her entire face in it. After a long moment, she then slowly revealed her pair of eyes.

She looked puzzled and confused.

Hayden stood still and tried to explain, “Don’t you recognize me? Alayna, it’s Hayden. Hayden Downey, Stella’s mother.”

Alayna felt confused, and seemed to recognize her after a long time, nodding hesitantly. She pronounced hoarsely, “Hayden.”

“Yes, I’m Hayden.”

Hayden nodded gratefully. After hesitating for a while, he pointed to the tablet and asked, “Are you watching a princess movie? Can I watch it with you?”

Alayna’s reaction appeared very slowly. She thought for a long time before nodding and spitting out one word, “Yes.”

In the movie, the princess had just received an enchantment from the evil witch. This was the highlight of the movie.

“Do you plan to live your life like this?”.

Joseph’s icy voice rang out in the living room.

Kevin, who was on the other side of the table, let out a laugh, “What’s wrong with that, didn’t it seem to you that I was always drifting, surrounded by so many women? Now I have the only one I want and I’ve erased contact from the others.”

“I won’t oppose any of your decisions. But first, as a friend, I need to tell you what you will face in the future – will you listen to me?”

Joseph’s words were overly calm, breaking the relaxed atmosphere Kevin was trying to create.

Kevin knew he couldn’t help it. He scratched his head, sighing and told him, “Okay, say what you want. I’ve already made my decision anyway.”

“Since you now think you have a strong will and that everything can last forever, I find it impossible to advise you to let go of your decision. But let me ask you, have you mentioned this to your parents?” Joseph was straight to the point from the beginning.

Apparently, Kevin had already thought of this question. But he frowned as he was questioned, “We’ll keep it a secret first until the time is right.”

“When is the right time then?”. Joseph continued to ask, “Or do you plan to wait for Alayna to recover?”.
