Chapter 205

The CEO’s little ones1,116 words~6 min read

Hayden swallowed saliva as he looked at the man feeding him oatmeal, and said awkwardly, “You really looked like you were the president of the company back then.”

“That was me.”

Joseph Beckham shoveled the last bite of fish into his mouth. The spoon hit the edge of the porcelain bowl, making a crunching sound. He leaned back on the bed, wiping his hands slowly.

“But I wasn’t the manager of the clothing brand.” Joseph looked at Dante coldly, “Didn’t you hear my phone call this afternoon? Are you still suspicious? Or is it that you don’t even want to admit it?”

Dante trembled with rage. “That all happened because of a conflict of interest among the higher-ups, using us as an excuse. I’m sick of that sort of thing.”

ᴹᴼᴿᴱ ᵁᴾᴰᴬᵀᴱˢ ᴵᴺ ᴳᴬᴸᴺᴼⱽᴱᴸˢ.ᶜᴼᴹ “I have nothing to say if you want to think that way.”

Joseph looked at him, balled up the tissue in his hand and threw it straight into the trash can at the end of the bed.

If it weren’t for Hayden, he wouldn’t even bother bringing up these petty issues caused by if cousin Franklin Hawkins.

“I think it’s just a misunderstanding.” Hayden looked at the two of them, “The ST Group indiscriminately accused the staff of their subordinate companies back then, which is unfair as it can easily ruin someone’s life.”

Dante could not agree more on this.

“Although the way ST Group did this was wrong, Mr. Burke, you should not blame others without knowing the truth. So, what’s the difference between that and the way the ST Group did everything?”.

Hearing this, Dante’s face went white.

In fact, from Dante’s statement, Hayden could tell that Dante probably already knew he had wronged Joseph and regretted it. He just couldn’t take it back.

“For my sake, why don’t you shake hands and make amends? Mr. Burke, I have eaten your fish congee and it tastes very good. But I won’t pay you, considering it your apology for accidentally scalding me.”

Hayden pretended to lighten the mood, but Dante couldn’t laugh.

Joseph stood beside him with a deadpan expression. No one responded to his joke, and the situation became even more awkward.

“You have to apologize to me.” Joseph pointed to the bruise at the corner of his lips. “Him apologizing to me is not unimportant.”

“You…” Dante was furious and pointed to his own black eyes, “I was hit by you too.”

“Self-defense is different from intentional injury.”

Hayden coughed violently, seeing that the two were about to start another fight, “Ahem…”.

They both calmed down then, looking at her tensely.

“I came all this way to sign a contract with the designer, not to end up scalding my leg and now you two are arguing here, how irritating.”

When she spoke of that, Joseph felt pangs of conscience.

It was likely that Hayden wouldn’t have gotten hurt, if it wasn’t his fault. He looked at Dante with cold eyes, as he had nothing to vent his anger on.

Dante returned her gaze with indifference, then looked at Hayden and asked, “Miss Downey, you told me earlier that you’re not part of the ST Group, right? I just want to make sure of it.”

“Of course.” Hayden nodded, “I’m just a former employee of the ST Hotel, and I have nothing to do with them. Green Lemon Clothing was originally my family’s industry, and now I’m in charge of it.”

Joseph was about to reprimand Dante, but after hearing Hayden’s words, he swallowed his words.

“All right then.” Dante nodded solemnly, “I’ll sign the contract with you under any conditions. Just consider it as my apology to you.”

“Huh?” Hayden was confused for a moment, “Are you serious? You can say that again.”

Dante looked stern as he repeated his words.

Happiness came all too suddenly, who would have thought Dante would be so responsible and willing to give in after scalding Hayden’s leg, it was worth it!

“Then I’ll rewrite the contract and have someone bring it to you later.”

“No need. You guys go without any trouble, I’ll head to N City after I pack my things here. By the way, I have a condition.”

“A condition again?” Joseph glared at him.

“Tell me.” Hayden pinched Joseph as he smiled at Dante, “Any condition.”

How could it be? Joseph was furious.

“I have nowhere to stay in N City and I need a temporary place to stay, I’ll move after I find my own place.”

“Sure. I invite you to stay with me, you can move in when you arrive.” Hayden accepted with great alacrity.

After all, having a good designer was like winning a cash cow! A house was nothing next to that!

“I hope we’ll have a pleasant cooperation.” Hayden strained to reach out to shake Dante’s hand.

Joseph grabbed her by the middle of her arm and pressed her against the bed impatiently, “Your wound isn’t healed yet. Have you forgotten the pain? Leave it now, stay here.”

Dante glared at Joseph and said weakly, “Machismo is the marriage killer. Miss Downey, I advise you to consider this person carefully.”

“What did you say?” Joseph’s face darkened.

“I’ll go back and get my things and try to go with you.” Dante walked out of the hospital as if he hadn’t heard Joseph.

“Wait, Mr. Burke, your bowl.” A voice sounded from the direction of the sanitation department lobby.

“Throw it away. I’ll get a new one when I move out.”

Until Dante left, Hayden stared in the direction he went, laughing.

“Happy?” Joseph looked at her coldly.

Hayden raised her eyebrow, “Of course I’m happy about signing with a designer.”

“You’ve never smiled at me like that before.”

“You?” Hayden shot him a look of disgust, “The others will think I’m a psycho for smiling at you like that.”

Joseph, unsatisfied with her response, gritted his teeth and said, “I did my best to find a way to bring this designer in while you were still in the room nursing your wound. But then you just pay attention to that brat and don’t even ask about me. Hayden, don’t you have anything else to say to me?”.

After saying this, he regretted it, frowned and wanted to leave.

Before, he didn’t say anything for doing anything. But now, he was probably angry and became cheeky, wanting to take credit for it.

Hayden suddenly grabbed his hand. His hand was large and warm.

He leaned over and gave Joseph a warm kiss on the corner of his lips. “Thank you.”

The room fell silent and he heard a very soft voice.
