The implication of Joseph’s words was that the covenant was a matter decided by the elders while he was still a child. The elders did not ask for his agreement at all.

Joseph replied seriously, “He’s engaged.”

On their flight back to N City, Hayden had clearly understood this matter.

There was no doubt in Addison’s intention to return here. She believed that Joseph might also know this, but it seemed that he had not yet answered her, or that Addison had already been turned away in the bathroom when she fled in haste and missed the second half of the conversation.
