Hayden was silent.

Knowing he had said something wrong, Alayna hastened to explain, “This is not important, the money in your hand is the most important thing. I told you last time, see your father more often so he doesn’t get stupid and think he only has one daughter left, lest he then leaves all his property to Chelsea who is a slut.”

“Easy there, I don’t care about all that.”

“Hayden, make plans for the future. May you not lack a man and wealth in the end.”

Alayna’s words instantly reminded Hayden that she needed a lot of money to make sure that even if she broke up with Joseph or had a fight someday, she would have a form of backup to protect herself and it would be easier to get Noah back. She was too comfortable these days, so comfortable that she thought this form of backup was no longer necessary.

“I get it.” She thought about it for a moment and responded.

At 1:30, Hayden took an hour off to drive Benjamin to the airport.

“Let me know when the plane lands.”

Hayden looked at Benjamin in front of her. She was still a little worried.

“I’m an adult.” Benjamin was a little helpless, “Don’t always look at me like you’re looking at a child, it makes me feel like you’re my mother.”

“Your mother?” Hayden looked surprised, “You remembered your mother?”.

“I mean it feels like a mother.” Benjamin looked down and snorted, hiding the momentary panic in his eyes.

After watching Benjamin pass through security, Hayden exited the airport.

The sky filled with a roar. When Hayden raised his head, he saw a long wake made by a plane in the sky. Unconsciously, he looked at his watch. It was two o’clock.

He suddenly thought that the plane Joseph was on seemed to be the two o’clock plane.

The words about his relationship with Addison were still rattling around in his mind. By nature, women tended to break down a seemingly simple word into many meanings. When men said fewer words, they thought more and when men said more, women thought even more.

It didn’t matter.

In the end, Hayden got angry and stepped on the gas pedal to get on the airport freeway.

He took a leave of absence for the entire afternoon and planned i to the Downey Family home.

It wasn’t that he was going back to get his property back, as Alayna said. It was because some time ago, Bentley called her and it sounded like he wasn’t feeling well. So she had to go back to take a look at it.

After arriving at the door of the house, she pressed the bell and the maid came to open the door after a while.

It was a middle-aged woman who looked unfamiliar to him. She was watching Hayden with a wary face.

“Who are you?”

Hayden smiled faintly. “I’m Hayden, are you the new maid?”.

“Hayden?” The maid frowned and was about to close the door, “I’ve never heard of you, you must have come to the wrong place.”

“Wait.” Hayden pressed the door, “It’s normal that you haven’t seen me. My father is Bentley, the owner of this house, isn’t he here?”.

“Are you kidding?” The maid’s face darkened, “The master only has one daughter, why would he have a daughter like you? You should pick a place well before you want to fool someone. Even though sir is not at home and his daughter doesn’t come back often, I’m not that stupid.”

“He’s not home?” Hayden frowned, “Where’d he go?”

The Downey Group had passed into Chelsea’s mother’s hands for her to run. Several Downey Family cousins were also involved. Now, Bentley had receded into the background. Although he still had the power to control the stock, he no longer cared much about the affairs of the company. Being old, he didn’t like to go out, so he was always at home.

“Don’t you claim to be the lord’s daughter, how come you don’t even know where your father went?”

The maid twitched her lips in contempt and looked very triumphant, as if she had discovered Hayden by her words, “Don’t play that kind of trick in front of me. Let me tell you, sir is ill and has long since gone to a nursing home. If you really are the lord’s daughter, how could you not know that. Go back to where you came from, I’ll call the police if you come back again.”

Finished speaking, the door closed with a loud bang.

Hayden froze for a moment. He hurried to drive the car to go to the nursing home.

“Hello? Camille, it’s Hayden.” He dialed Camille’s number, “Is my father in the hospital or somewhere else?”.

Camille sighed on the other end of the phone. Hayden only then realized that Camille had been fired half a month ago. As for the matter of Bentley being hospitalized, he didn’t know much about it.

“It must be the nursing home on MD Street. When I left, I heard that woman and her daughter vaguely mention it.”

“Okay, I got it. Thanks, Camille.”

After hanging up the phone, Hayden adjusted the GPS and headed for the MD Street nursing home.

From Camille’s words, it sounded like Bentley had been hospitalized more than half a month ago, but surprisingly he didn’t know that at all. During this period, she had spoken to her father on the phone, but he hadn’t mentioned anything about her condition or her hospitalization. Thinking about it, she felt abruptly regretful and indescribably guilty.

The nursing home had five stars and was considered one of the best in N. City. After taking in the surroundings, Hayden sighed in relief. After inquiring about the patient ward at the front desk, he headed straight for the inpatient department.

When he reached the ward, Bentley was sleeping. After staring at him from the doorway for a while, Hayden pulled it open and walked out. He went straight for the doctor in charge.

“Your father was hospitalized half a month ago. When he was admitted, his eyes were already somewhat blinded. Although he can be slightly controlled with medication, now he basically can’t see anything.”

“You mean my father can’t see anything now?” Hayden’s heart pounded and he clenched his fists, “How can that be?”

“There are many concrete reasons. According to the test results, your father’s liver is deteriorating. Your mother has said that he tends to drink a lot, plus he has irregular diets. There are many small and big diseases in his body. This time, it was the complication of multiple diseases that caused his blindness.”

The doctor only knew that she was Bentley’s daughter, so naturally he thought Sophia was her mother. Hayden frowned slightly and didn’t deliberately correct him, just asked instead.

“So, can my father’s blindness still be cured?”.

“Probably not.” The doctor shook his head regretfully, “It’s irreversible. It can barely be controlled with medication to try to maintain it. If it is not controlled, he may actually be unable to see anything afterwards. Also, there’s another issue. I’m not sure if his mother has told him.”

“What?”

“Your father may be facing deafness, too.”

Hayden’s fingernails dug into the skin of his palm. The pain reminded him that this was a real event, not a dream. The doctor said his father wouldn’t be able to hear or see?

Despite her resentment toward her father over her mother’s affair, the affection and love she had for him were not false. He was still the same father who loved and cared for her, the one who would give her anything she wanted. In her opinion, her father had always been omnipotent.

After leaving the responsible doctor’s office, she sat by Bentley’s hospital bed for a long time.

“Nurse…”

She woke suddenly, gripping the headboard of the bed as she looked at Hayden. His eyes were misty and he was apparently having trouble focusing his vision.
